2013 Penang Merdeka Day Message By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 31.8.2013
Negaraku – Selamat, Bersih, Hijau, Sihat
Just as Tunku Abdul Rahman shouted our Merdeka 7 times 56 years ago, let us renew our bonds of freedom, justice, truth, democracy and human dignity. These values and principles that helped us achieve Merdeka will also make Malaysia an exceptional nation.
Malaysians may not feel very exceptional when it is more fashionable now to be an extremist and racist than a Malaysian, to propagate lies than celebrate the truth and close our eyes to corruption and injustice. However the day will come when it is un-Malaysian to be a racist, a liar and corrupt. Malaysians will see through the lies such as those contained in the Federal government sponsored film of Tanda Putera, which sows racial hatred and division instead of harmony and reconciliation.

2013 Merdeka Day Message By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 30.8.2013.
Rules Based Institutions, Celebrating Diversity And Outcome-Based Administration Can Help To Establish National Unity, Integrity And Economic Prosperity For All.
56 years after Merdeka, the promise of our founders’ ideals have not matched with the realities of our present generation. Malaysia continue to be beset by an extremist and racist divide, overshadowing and even condoning the entrenchment of cronyism, abuse of power and even corruption.
The poor performance of Malaysian Airline System(MAS) despite the huge amounts of public funds invested as compared to Air Asia Bhd is puzzling. Despite not getting a single cent in public funds, Air Asia has consistently outperformed MAS with cheaper fares and is now larger than MAS in market capitalisation, planes and share price. The public has a right to ask the value of money for some RM19 billion spent by the Federal government since 1998 to keep MAS solvent, including guaranteeing RM12.3 billion of MAS’ borrowings.

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 30.8.2013
In upholding freedom of expression and strongly condemning racial hatred, the Penang state government reiterates that no action will be taken against anyone who ignores our advisory that “Tanda Putera” is full of lies, demonises minority groups and the thousands of innocent Malaysians killed during the 1969 May 13 riots. As a matter of historical record, the Penang state government has a moral duty to adopt a clear and unambiguous stand to oppose any attempt to rewrite history that is grossly inconsistent with actual events and facts.
In contrast, those aligned to the BN Federal government has taken an opposite approach by threatening to close down cinema operators and other forms of legal action if Tanda Putera is not screened. The police have even been used to remove artworks in Kuala Lumpur. This is the difference between Kuala Lumpur and Penang where even those in Penang that differ with the Penang state government can still display their presentations undisturbed. It is for this reason that Penang is slowly becoming the art capital of Malaysia because artists enjoy freedom of expression.

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 29.8.2013
The Penang State Government issued an advisory, not a ban and no action will be taken against any cinema operators in Penang who continue to screen “Tanda Putera”. Just like any travel advisory issued by the government for the safety of citizens travelling in strife-torn or dangerous countries, this advisory is issued to cinema operators to highlight to the public the dangerous lies in this film that can only threaten and tear the fabric of national and racial unity in the country.
Just as no action is taken against citizens who risk their personal safety by ignoring such travel advisories, no action will be taken against cinema operators who ignore the state government’s advisory. To rebut the lies by the BN-controlled media, the Penang state government reiterates that it will not stop anyone who wants to see the film in Penang. Both local councils Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang and Majlis Perbandaran Seberang Perai will not punish cinema operators in Penang for screening the film.

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 17.8.2013
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak claimed UMNO was a credible political party that played by the rules and was ready to walk the talk. If so then why was UMNO ordered to be deregistered by the High Court in 1989 after an application by UMNO members for malpractices and not playing by the rules during the 1987 party elections?
Najib is repeating the lies of Utusan Malaysia, New Straits Times and a vicious fictitious account by one Father Augustus Chen who does not even exist, that DAP had allegedly failed to notify 753 members of its Central Executive Committee (CEC) election last year. Even the ROS knows that this is a lie when the ROS refused to state this as the reason or any other reasons for that matter, in ordering DAP to hold re-elections. By only saying that it is dissatisfied without giving any reasons, it is clear that the ROS is unable to do so because it has no valid reasons whatsoever to give.
Continue reading ‘Can The Prime Minister Walk The Talk By Guaranteeing That The Registrar Of Societies(ROS) Will Not Abuse Its Powers By Deregistering The DAP If DAP Files A Legal Suit In Court Challenging The Directive To Hold Re-elections As An Arbitrary And High-handed Abuse Of Power That Is Both Unlawful And Without Any Legal Basis?’
Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 16.8.2013
In averting a likely deregistration of the party by BN, DAP must not be defeated by the brutality of an oppressive Registrar of Societies(ROS) nor be under any delusion that the ROS still respects the rule of law. DAP leaders will go on a nationwide tour of all states to explain the rationale of the latest decision after the 2008-2011 Central Executive Committee(CEC) meets next Thursday to conduct fresh re-elections.
There is no doubt that the ROS has repeatedly behaved unprofessionally, unethically and even unlawfully by making media announcements that had no factual or legal basis. Instead of all facts and information supplied by the DAP that were verified by an accounting firm, ROS appears to believe the unsubstantiated lies of a non-existent person called Father Augustus Chen, Utusan Malaysia(UM) and New Straits Times(NST) that 753 DAP delegates had been denied their right to attend the DAP Congress in Penang or that there were 547 “phantom” delegates attending the Congress.

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 14.8.2013.
The emergency DAP Central Working Committee (CWC) on Monday night discussed the deteriorating crime situation that is developing into a full-blown crisis in Malaysia with adverse impact not only on personal security but also on tourism and business climate. With a shooting a day since the end of last month, the latest being the cold-blooded murder of a businessman Mohd Lutfi Mansor in a robbery in Dungun, the response by the Home Ministry is disappointing inaction and playing the blame game on the repeal of the Emergency Ordinance(EO).
DAP has decided to act by appointing DAP National Vice-Chair and MP for Seputih Teresa Kok as head of the DAP Crime Action Taskforce(CAT) to seek an increase from the present 10,150( 9%) of total police personnel of 112,583 in the Criminal Investigation Department(CID) to 50% or 56,000 to immediately restore public safety to our streets. There must be a total and complete focus by the police to revert to its statutory duty on fighting crime.

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 13.8.2013.
The emergency Central Working Committee(CWC) last night unanimously agreed to make a final effort to see the Registrar of Societies (ROS) Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman to press him for only 2 explanations of the reasons why and under what powers of the Societies Act is he directing the DAP to hold re-elections for its Central Executive Committee(CEC). The DAP is willing to hold party re-elections provided these two explantions are given in a manner that is reasonable, lawful and with factual basis.
Without these two explanations by the ROS, the DAP leadership would be completely helpless in not being able to answer the queries of DAP delegates at a Party Congress on why the party leadership succumbed and surrendered meekly to such arbitrary and high-handed abuse of power by the ROS in directing re-elections.
The DAP CWC reiterates that the CEC election in December 2012 last year was properly and cleanly conducted. When a computer glitch caused the wrong announcement of the successful candidates, DAP immediately rectified it and even got an accounting firm to verify the corrected results. There was no mistake either in vote counting or tabulation but only in posting the results, leading to one candidate Vincent Wu wrongly announced as a successful candidate when it should be Zairil Khir Johari.

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 12.8.2013.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi need not be worried about the public not being fair to the police in their fight against hardcore criminals in Malaysia. That is why Malaysians are asking for more resources in terms of equipment and personnel for the police, especially when a mere 9% of the police force of 112,583 or only 10,150 are fighting crime. Instead the public is pressing for Ahmad to increase the number of policemen fighting crime and patrolling the streets to 50% of the police force or 56,000 for them to do an adequate job.
The question is whether Ahmad is fair to the police by diverting their strength from their core duties of fighting crime by requiring them to perform other duties, including monitoring and dealing with political opponents of BN. Is Ahmad fair to the police who are now questioned for failing to protect the public when the police are at times restricted to such non-essential duties by focusing not on criminals, but on law-abiding elected representatives who happen to be from the opposition?
Continue reading ‘If Ahmad Zahid Hamidi Is Correct That There Are Now 260,000 Criminals Roaming Malaysian Streets, Then Resuscitating Emergency Ordinance(EO)-Like Laws Will Not Help The Police But The Malaysian Army And United Nations Peacekeeping Force Is Necessary To Help Police Face This Army Of 260,000 Criminals.(en/bm/cn)’
Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 11.8.2013.
DAP will hold an emergency CWC meeting tomorrow night at DAP Headquarters on the deteriorating crime situation that is turning into a full-blown crisis in the country as well as discuss other related party issues. The spate of shootings throughout the country is unprecedented with a recorded shooting almost one per day since the end of last month.
Even though some leaders are away on holiday, DAP is holding this emergency meeting to respond to public fears for their safety that has affected business and caused tourism associations to publicly voice out on the adverse impact of violent crime on tourism in Malaysia.

Perutusan Hari Raya Aidilfitri 1434 Negeri Pulau Pinang Oleh Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang Lim Guan Eng Di Komtar, George Town Pada 10.8.2013.

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 9.8.2013.
The Penang State government is gravely concerned about the three separate shooting incidents on the 1st day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri in Penang causing 1 death and 1 injury. Whilst some of these shootings and casualties may be related to criminal gangland rivalry, 3 shootings in a day indicates a deteriorating crime situation that will place doubts on public safety.
This morning I have called up the Penang Chief Police Officer, who is still in Penang. He briefed me on the situation and that the Penang police are doing what they can to be on top of the situation.

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 7.8.2013.
Will the ROS Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman dare to meet me after Hari Raya holidays to explain why he believe the unsubstantiated lies of Utusan Malaysia(UM) and New Straits Times(NST) instead of facts verified by an accounting firm and state the reasons for that DAP has to conduct fresh elections? I have written a letter to him requesting such a meeting.
ROS has repeatedly behaved unprofessionally, unethically and even unlawfully by making media announcements that had no factual or legal basis. Worse, the ROS makes announcements in the media without any written replies, giving the strong impression of wanting to politicise the issue for the benefit of BN instead of fulfilling their duties in regulating the Societies impartially and lawfully.

DAP Hari Raya Message By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 6.8.2013.
The horrendous statistics of at least one shooting per day over the last 8 days, have heightened concerns over public safety during the Hari Raya celebrations. Gun victims are so common that not only those with criminal backgrounds are shot in broad daylight, even the founder of Arab-Malaysian Development Bank Hussain Ahmad Najadi has also become a victim in the centre of Kuala Lumpur.
Clearly, rising crime is no longer a perception but an indictment of the police failure and manipulation of statistics by the Federal government to give a false impression of falling crime. To fight crime there must be resources placed on both technology and manpower.
