2015 May Day Message by DAP Secretary-General and MP for Bagan Lim Guan Eng in Kuala Lumpur on 30.04.2015
14.2 million Malaysian labour force have lost faith in the federal government as they are caught in a vicious cycle of debt, rising prices, unfair low wages and public financial losses caused by inefficiency, wastage and corruption. There were 13.7 million Malaysian workers employed and 455,000 unemployed as at February 2015, resulting in an increase in the unemployment rate to 3.2%.
As May Day approaches, Malaysian workers have little to look forward to. Despite all the hype by Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib Razak about the successes of BN’s economic transformation programme, they are impressive only for spinning the facts and hiding the harsh reality that these rosy statistics of 6% economic growth in 2014 means very little to ordinary Malaysians who remain mired in household debt and a widening income gap.

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 23.4.2015.
DAP is surprised at the double-standards and special treatment by the police on the Taman Medan church protesters in Petaling Jaya, who committed the barbaric act of protesting against a church and forcing it to take down the sign of the cross from their premise. Why are the Taman Medan church protesters and the brother of the Inspector-General of Police(IGP) not arrested, handcuffed and put under remand, similar to what is suffered by PR leaders and Malaysian Insider journalists?
The Inspector-General of Police’s brother Datuk Abdullah Abu Bakar, who is also the Taman Lindungan Jaya Umno branch chief, only spent a mere four hours at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters answering questions about his prominent role in the Taman Medan church protest. In contrast, PR leaders such as a Selangor State EXCO member was held for 3 days and journalists overnight in a police lockup. Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 21.4.2015.
The barbaric act of UMNO Selangor leaders and a brother of the Inspector-General of Police(IGP), in forcing a church to take down a cross proves that the Sedition Act is used as a political weapon against PR and those who oppose BN, when either the IGP or the Home Minister alone can decide whether investigation will be done without fear or favour. This disgraceful act of barbarism by the extremist Selangor UMNO-led protesters against a church in Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya, has made news around the world.

The Penang state government wishes to clarify certain misconceptions printed by the by the press about the proposed Sky Cab, Light Rail Transit(LRT) or Mass Rail Transit(MRT). Both the LRT and MRT are not linked to the Sky Cab, a cable car proposal initiated by the state government with the operator of the RM2.5 billion Penang Sentral in Buttterworth. Penang Sentral has been identified as the Northern Corridor Public Transport Hub.
Both the LRT and MRT are key components of the RM27 billion Penang Public Transport Masterplan, a “big-bang” approach to resolve our communication woes and traffic congestion once and for all, involving both road, rail, sea and land. The key element of the Public Transport Masterplan is to “move people, not vehicles”. I thank the Penang Bar Committee as Organisers of today’s inaugural Karpal Singh Forum for inviting me to attend and launch this prestigious event. Karpal’s passing has left a void in all of us, especially during deeply troubling and challenging times such as these.
From an already archaic and draconian law, the Sedition Act with its latest amendments has morphed and mutated into a juggernaut that tramples on human rights, assaults the senses and curtails the freedom of citizens of this country in every way possible. Motivated by fear – fear of speech, thought and liberalism – the powers that be, have stopped at nothing short of attempting to programme everyone into being meek and mindless robots.

As we mark the first year anniversary of the sudden departure of DAP National Chairman Karpal Singh, we mourn the party’s and the people’s loss. Whilst we can never replace the pain and sorrow felt by his family, Malaysia is clearly poorer without Karpal.
Karpal pushed the party’s profile as a Malaysian party and advanced our cause for justice, freedom and democracy. He did not just simply create history by becoming the first non-Chinese DAP National Chair but used his legal prowess to demonstrate the true meaning of Malaysian Malaysia, by defending the rights of everyone regardless of race, religion, background and even nationality. Indeed for Karpal, injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Continue reading ‘Karpal Singh’s 1st Anniversary In Memoriam – Missing Karpal.（e/m/c）’
Parliamentary Speech By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng During The Second Reading Of The Sedition(Amendment) Act 2015 In Dewan Rakyat On 9 April 2015.
DAP strongly objects and condemns the proposed amendments to the 1948 Sedition Act, because the harsh strengthening of the repugnant laws is a historic act of national betrayal by the Prime Minister and the BN Government that launches 10 oppressive attacks against 30 million Malaysians. Instead of fulfilling his promise first made on the eve of Malaysia Day 2011 and repeated it twice(on July 2012 and after the 13th General Election on 2 July 2013 during an BBC interview), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has chosen to dishonour it by breaking his word to repeal the Sedition Act.
The Prime Minister did not even apologise publicly or seem contrite for breaking his promise to repeal the Sedition Act made 3 times. We hold the Prime Minister and BN parties personally responsible for this historic act of national betrayal to their principles, to their own promises, to the upholding of parliamentary democracy and most important of all to the people of Malaysia. Worse, the BN Federal government is now trying to accumulate and amass greater and wider oppressive and arbitrary powers with these repugnant amendments. Without the immediate implementation of the RM 353 million dredging works to deepen the North Channel to 15 meters to allow bigger vessels to dock Penang Port and the low price paid by Seaport Terminal (Johore) Sdn Bhd, the privatisation of the Penang Port can be easily misinterpreted as another ‘piratisation’ of public assets for private benefit. I am surprised at the low price paid for the privatisation of Penang Port to the company linked to tycoon Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary, as revealed by the written reply to my parliamentary question below.

Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Sri,
GOODS AND SERVICES TAX (GST) TELAH MEMAKSA PENIAGA KECIL MENGHENTIKAN PERNIAGAAN
2. YAB Dato’ Sri sendiri telah memberi jaminan bahawa YAB Dato’ Sri sendiri akan mempertahankan hak rakyat daripada sebarang kesulitan ekoran pelaksanaan GST kerana ianya bukan untuk membebankan rakyat. Namun, senario peniaga industri perniagaan kecil yang terpaksa gulung tikar menunjukkan keadaan sebenar adalah sebaliknya. MCA Stripped Naked As A Hypocrite And Liar In Promising To Oppose Hudud Bill Right Up To The Highest Levels, By Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz’s Revelation That Cabinet Did Not Discuss The Hudud Bill At Its Cabinet Meeting Last Week.
MCA stripped naked as a hypocrite and liar in promising to oppose the hudud bill right up to the highest levels, by Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz’s revelation that Cabinet did not discuss the hudud bill at its Cabinet meeting last week. Clearly MCA is playing the classic tactics of saying one thing publicly to the non-Muslim community outside but doing the complete opposite inside Cabinet.
This reminds us of MCA President Liow Tiong Lai’s historic betrayal of his vow to fight for justice, by demanding that Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob apologise to the Chinese community for Ismail’s lies that the Chinese oppresses the Malays and that Chinese traders are to be blamed for not reducing prices? When Ismail Sabri did not apologise for his statement, Liow Tiong Lai meekly surrendered.
