Open Letter To Teluk Intan Voters(en/bm/cn)

Open Letter To Teluk Intan Voters By Penang Chief Minister And DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng on 28 May 2014

Protecting Your Hopes, Securing Our Future

BN and UMNO conducts the Teluk Intan by-election in the same manner they run the country, by appealing to your worst fears and ugliness with lies, curses and hate. By trying to smear the character of our young lady candidate Dyana Syofa and even her mother, BN and UMNO have lost the mandate to rule and right to represent the people of Teluk Intan.

BN knows only how to preach hate because this is the only justification for their corruption and abuse of power. BN knows only how to appeal to your fears to cover up their mismanagement of the economy leading to the Barang Naik problems of price hikes in petrol, sugar, electricity and even motor insurance premiums as well as Goods and Services Tax(GST).

This Is A Clear Abuse Of Power And Possible Corrupt Practice When A Minister Refuses To Sign The Letter To Extend Sabbaruddin Chik’s Tenure As Bank Rakyat Chairman After April 8 This Year, Because Of Sabbaruddin’s Opposition To The RM32 Million Easy Repayment Without Interest Scheme.(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 28.5.2014.

Bank Negara’s loud and ominous silence over the RM32 million Bank Rakyat loan scandal echoes the Prime Minister’s lack of commitment to principles of accountability and integrity necessary towards establishing a sound financial system. The United Nations Institute for Training and Research had described a “sound financial management” as the aggregate set of practices and procedures which allow for the accurate, transparent, and effective handling of all government monies and government contracts.

Clearly both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Bank Negara have failed miserably, if this test of a sound financial system is applied by their refusal to come clean on the RM 32 million Bank Rakyat loan scandal exposed by former UMNO Minister and ex-Bank Rakyat Chairman Tan Sri Sababaruddin Chik in “The Malaysian Insider”. Sabbaruddin continued to reiterate that the Board of Directors of Bank Rakyat had initially rejected the easy repayment option over 10 years, without any interest on a RM32 million loan, to businessman Deepak Jaikishan.

Even Though The Election Commission(EC) Has No Enforcement Powers To Punish Those Who Violate The Election Offences Act, The EC Is Not Free, Fair And Independent If The EC Fails To Condemn But Instead Condone BN Leaders Who Practice Money Politics.(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Teluk Intan On 27.5.2014.

Even though the Election Commission(EC) has no enforcement powers to punish those who violate the Election Offences Act, the EC is not free, fair and independent if the EC fails to condemn but instead condone BN leaders who practice money politics. Malaysiakini reported that a single mother in Taman Semarak, Teluk Intan P Panjalay has alleged that Umno Wanita chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil visited her house with RM 500 cash and pampers for her daughters in return for canvassing support for BN.

Shahrizat denied that she was using cash and gifts to fish for votes because she was visiting clients of the National Welfare Foundation as chairperson of the foundation. Sharizat should know that the Election Offences Act 1954 states clearly that a person involved in certain activities that may influence voters is guilty of vote buying and bribery, whether done directly or indirectly.

BN Should Win With Honour In The Teluk Intan By-Election And Not Win Dirty Through Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi And Wee Ka Siong’s Lies About The PR Penang State Government To Create Hatred Against Dyana Sofya.(en/cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 27.5.2014.

BN should win with honour in the Teluk Intan by-election and not win dirty through Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and MCA Deputy President Wee Ka Siong’s lies about the PR Penang state government to create hatred against DAP Candidate for Teluk Intan Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud. Ahmad Zahid had claimed that Pakatan Rakyat only fights for the rights of criminals, partly because it is funded by criminals in the last general election.

This is a blatant lie because if true, PR leaders would have been charged under existing criminal laws for being involved with criminals. Zahid Hamidi could not produce any proof except to claim that the late Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh did not visit a policeman from his constituency in Bukit Glugor who had died in the line of duty in Melaka.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak Should Ensure That Ahmad Zahid Hamidi And UMNO-owned Utusan Malaysia Listens Before Giving Advice That Politicians Have A Responsibility Not To Make Inflammatory Remarks And Journalists To Report Fairly And Accurately.(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 27.5.2014.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak should ensure that Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and UMNO-owned Utusan Malaysia listens first before giving advice that politicians had a responsibility not to make inflammatory remarks and journalists to report fairly and accurately. Otherwise Najib sounded insincere and even hypocritical when he spoke of a spirit of fairness and in the service of truth during the National Press Club (NPC) Awards 2014 last night.

There is a complete absence in Utusan of a spirit of fairness and in the service of truth. During a Biro Tata Negara seminar on 14 July 2012, Utusan Malaysia’s deputy chief editor Mohd Zaini Hassan openly admitted that they spin the facts, in other words lie, to paint a “desired picture” to the reader. Further Utusan does not believe in freedom of the press by refusing to observe one of its basic tenets of a right to reply by those maligned in their reports.

Prime Minister Must Respect Accountability And Transparency By Coming Clean On The RM40 Million Bank Rakyat Loan Scandal Exposed By Former Minister And Ex-Bank Rakyat Chairman Tan Sri Sabbaruddin Chik.

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 26.5.2014.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak must respect accountability and transparency by coming clean on the RM 40 million Bank Rakyat loan scandal exposed by former Minister and ex-Bank Rakyat Chairman Tan Sri Sababaruddin Chik. This follows the shocking revelations in “The Malaysian Insider” today of the nexus of patronage, money-dealing and abuse of public monies for cronies of the top leadership, exposed by Sabbaruddin Chik after his tenure was not extended due to a RM40 million loan application made by a VIP linked to Putrajaya.

Sabbaruddin told The Malaysian Insider that the VIP had used his political connections to settle a loan amounting to RM 32 million without any interest calculated due to the intervention of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek. Sabbaruddin revealed the Bank Rakyat board of directors initially rejected the compromise offered by the VIP to settle his outstanding RM40 million debt by offering 120 post-dated cheques to be cashed in by the bank over a 10-year period.

PR 2013 General Election Manifesto Clearly Does Not Include Implementing Hudud Law On Muslims In Kelantan In Contrast To BN’s Confused Position Of Wanting To Implement Hudud Law When UMNO Is Talking But Opposing Its Implementation When Non-UMNO BN Parties Speak.(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng And MP For Bagan In Kuala Lumpur On 24.5.2014.

PR 2013 general election manifesto clearly does not include implementing hudud law on Muslims in Kelantan in contrast to BN’s confused position of wanting to implement hudud law when UMNO is talking but opposing its implementation when non-UMNO BN parties speak. Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is the one that has to explain to the people about BN’s conflicting stand on the hudud problem, when even PAS openly admits that implementing hudud is not in PR 2013 general election manifesto or PR common policy.

DAP had always consistently opposed implementing hudud. In contrast UMNO says BN supports implementing hudud whilst the rest of the BN component parties opposes – Can the real BN on hudud please stand up? Or is this another reminder that only UMNO’s views count and not the non-UMNO BN parties. For this reason, DAP’s parliamentary candidate for Teluk Intan Dyana Sofya is a better person than BN’s Mah Siew Keong in opposing the implementation of hudud because this objective is not in the PR common policy framework.

A Strong DAP And No UMNO Presence Are The 2 Key Reasons Why Sarawak Became The Second State Government And First BN State Government In Malaysia To Oppose Implementing Hudud.(en/cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister And DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 16.5.2014.

One week ago I had declared that the Penang state government will not implement hudud in the state and urged all other BN state governments to follow suit. The Penang state government welcomes Sarawak as the second state government in Malaysia after Penang to affirm that hudud will not be implemented in the state. Clearly Sarawak followed Penang in not implementing hudud because it is unconstitutional.

I welcome the assurance given by new Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem at the Sarawak State Assembly yesterday, that hudud will never be implemented in the state and Malay-language Bibles containing the word ‘Allah’ will never be seized by the government. There are two key reasons why Sarawak became the first BN state government to declare that hudud will not be implemented in the state.

No One Believes That The 3 Terengganu UMNO Assemblymen Quit Because Of Unhappiness Over The Former Terengganu Menteri Besar Daughter’s Wedding, Which The Prime Minister Today Even Publicly Promised That He Would Attend.(en/bm/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 15.5.2014.

DAP is not surprised at the Malaysian Corruption Barometer (MCB) 2014 findings that political parties have overtaken the police as institutions perceived to be the most corrupt in Malaysia. The Malaysian chapter of Transparency International had even described this as most “unusual”, unique only to Malaysia as political parties in other countries were not perceived to be ‎as corrupt as here.

Of the 2,000 respondents surveyed, 45% of Malaysians perceive political parties to ‎be the most corrupt, followed by the police (42%), public officials and civil servants (31‎%) and parliament and legislature (23%). In last year’s Global Corruption Barometer, ‎78% of Malaysians perceived the police to be the most corrupt followed by political parties at 69% in Malaysia .

DAP’s Opposition To Implementing Hudud Is Consistent Not Only Before But Also Now, Not Only In Penang But Also Throughout Malaysia, Not Only Against PAS But Also Against UMNO, Not Against Islam But Against An Unconstitutional Act.(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Penang On 15.5.2014.

DAP’s opposition to implementing hudud is consistent not only before but also now, not only in Penang but also throughout Malaysia, not only against PAS but also against UMNO, not against Islam but against an unconstitutional act. Following my unanswered challenge that other state governments should follow my announcement as Penang Chief Minister that hudud not be implemented in Penang, DAP regrets the lies by MCA in claiming that DAP opposes implementing hudud only in Penang but not in Malaysia.

DAP opposes the joint technical committee on hudud set up by Putrajaya and the Kelantan state government to study the implementation of hudud in Kelantan. Why has MCA not dared to convey their objections to UMNO, especially the failure of MCA President Liow Tiong Lai to raise this personally with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when Liow attended the UMNO 68th Anniversary celebrations in Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur last Sunday.

A Return To People’s Power By Fresh Democratic General Election For Terengganu Is DAP’s Solution To The Terengganu Constitutional Crisis Brought About By The Resignation of Three UMNO State Assemblymen Leading To An UMNO Minority State Government.(en/bm/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 14.5.2014.

A return to people’s power by fresh democratic general election for Terengganu is DAP’s solution to the Terengganu constitutional crisis brought about by the resignation of three UMNO State Assemblymen leading to an UMNO Minority state government. This was stated by DAP leaders, including Geylang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang, who had issued a press statement yesterday.

Certain press reports highlighting Kit Siang’s call for the newly-minted Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman to hand over the government to PAS is incorrect. Kit Siang had only mentioned this as one of the 3 possible scenarios, before stressing that fresh democratic general election by the people of Terengganu would be the best way out to resolve who has the mandate of the people to rule Terengganu.
