Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In George Town, Penang On 31.1.2018.

What is Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission(MACC) investigating now that MCA Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Wee Ka Siong no longer alleges corruption in the RM 6.3 billon tunnel and 3 highways project but claims instead that the Penang state government did not clearly state that China Railway Construction Corporation(CRCC) is not a shareholder but the main contractor? Wee Ka Siong claims that the failure of the Penang state government to state that clearly, is a misrepresentation that allowed the inclusion of CRCC to increase the paid-up capital of the project to RM4.5 billion.

Continue reading “去年11月4日及5日的风灾与水灾已过两个多月,槟州23所受灾学校却仅能靠民间团体和善长仁翁的捐助进行修复工程,联邦政府至今分文未拨”

SPEECH BY FOR THE LAUNCH OF PHASE TWO ‘THE HABITAT’ ECO-TOURISM VENTURE – THE LANGUR WAY CANOPY WALK, PENANG HILL, PENANG, MALAYSIA ON JANUARY 20, 2018

It is a great honour to be here this morning to officiate the launch of Phase 2 of The Habitat Penang Hill and to officially open the newly completed Langur Way Canopy Walk. On behalf of the Penang State Government, I wish to congratulate The Habitat on the important milestone of finally completing their Canopy Walk on Penang Hill.

This project is in line with the State Government’s vision to create a unique and prestigious tourism product that will project our treasure trove of green hills and the 130 million year old rainforest that will transform Penang Hill as a destination for high-value tourists. The Habitat is built on the State Government Land measuring approximately 10.04 acres. Not only is Penang Hill about being 702 meters above sea level or enjoying the exquisite views of George Town, it also promotes natural areas with much to learn from this 130 million year old rainforest.

Kickbacks To Penang State Government Politicians Easily Disproved And Refuted When Not A Single Cent Has Been Paid For The Tunnel Project And The Independent Checking Engineering(ICE) Must First Verify And Support Claims Before Any Payment Can Be Made.(e/m/c)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town, Penang On 21.1.2018.

The BN media is conducting a systematic public lynching of the Pakatan Harapan state government, with anonymous sources from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission(MACC) leaking false information, alleging that kickbacks were given to “key politicians” in the Penang undersea tunnel project, who received between tens of thousands and several million ringgit for their cooperation. Such malicious innuendos in press reports are dishonest not only because they are fake and violate the very basis of fairness, but also an abuse the powers of the press to vilify the opposition, in the run up to the coming general elections. SPEECH BY CHIEF MINISTER OF PENANG AT PENANG HILL CORPORATION RECOGNITION EVENING

I am very pleased to be here with you this evening to celebrate the reopening of Penang Hill recently and, more importantly, to also thank and honour the many organisations and individuals who have come forward and joined in this difficult journey.

Anyone who have seen the photographs and videos in the aftermath of the landslides which occurred on Nov 5 would be excused if they were of the opinion that it will take many months to clear the debris and to re-store the funicular service and other facilities on the hill. There were 194 landslides and many say that it would take up to 2 years for train services to be restored. To have done this in less than 2 months is, however, a miracle of sorts and it truly speaks volume of the dedication and commitment of the Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) team led by its General Manager Cheok Lay Leng.

They would, however, not have been able to accomplish the task without your support and assistance. It would not be right if I do not single out the various government agencies which have directly assisted in the recovery works and also facilitated the restoration of facilities and utilities to the hill. Hence, I would like to thank the Jabatan Kerja Raya, Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang, Perbadanan Bekalan Air, Tenaga Nasional, Telekom Malaysia, Angkatan Pertahanan Awam and Askar Melayu Diraja Malaysia.

Special mention goes out to the Penang Hill Residents Association for their assistance throughout the 2-month period led by none other than Raja Bukit (who also happens to be a PHC staff) and his team who initiated the clearing work of key roads and walking paths and, along with the PHC team, co-ordinated assistance for residents.

Finally, may I thank each and everyone who have played your part in helping us on the recovery of Penang Hill. Let us work together make it the hill resort of choice in Malaysia. We hope to break 1.6 million passengers this year. To succeed we need to pass out the message that Penang Hill is back on track and open for business. PHC will unveil their new website here today.

Going forward, very much more needs to be done to rehabilitate the hill and protect its natural environment and historical heritage for our future generations but we face the challenge with the confidence that we will be able to count on your support in the future.

The new website is more contemporary, trendy, flexible and progressive platform and also adapting to the latest technology and to give better user experience to those who visit the PHC website. It is easier and faster navigation and user-friendly than the previous version, with more animation for better visual impact and viewing experience. Like the existing version, the new website will provide for online ticketing and will be available in English, Malay and Chinese. It will eventually also interface with new mobile apps for Penang Hill which will also be launched soon.

I congratulate the PHC team for making the effort to refresh the website which carries many new exciting features which you will be able to see from the launch video which will be shown shortly after this.

With this, I am pleased to officially launch our new Penang Hill Corporation website.

Thank you.

Teng Chang Yeow Should Be Courageous Enough To Say Unequivocally That Lim Guan Eng Lied When Lim Guan Eng Said That Not A Single Cent Has Been Paid To The Contractor For The Under-Sea Tunnel Project But Only for The Three Main Highways, So That I Can Prove In Court That I Am Telling The Truth.(e/m/c)

Press Conference Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town, Penang On 17.1.2018.

Penang BN Chairman Teng Chang Yeow should be courageous enough to say unequivocally that Lim Guan Eng lied when Lim Guan Eng said that not a single cent has been paid to the contractor for the under-sea tunnel project but only for the three main highways, so that I can prove in court that I am telling the truth. Teng refused to accept my statement that not a single cent was paid for the undersea tunnel project and claimed that the Penang state government is lying even though Penang state EXCO Lim Hock Seng had repeatedly stated that any payment made to the contractor was for the three main highways? The Penang State Government Will Not Be Bullied By The BN Government’s Political Witch Hunt Into The Tunnel And 3 Road Projects Nor Bow Down To Dirty Tactics Of Intimidation, Fake News And Abuse Of Power To Sabotage This Transport Plan To Alleviate Traffic Congestion.(e/c)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In George Town, Penang On 16.1.2018.

The Penang state government reminds Malaysian Anti-Corruption Comission(MACC) deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki that his comments that investigation into the under-sea tunnel and three main highways in Penang would also include those in the media, must necessarily not be based solely on reports in the BN media. MACC should also rely on reports raised in the independent and neutral online news media to prevent any negative perception that its investigations are driven by the fake news in the BN news media. OPENING SPEECH DURING SYMPOSIUM ON SUSTAINABLE PENANG

OPENING SPEECH BY LIM GUAN ENG, PENANG CHIEF MINISTER CUM CHAIRMAN OF PENANG GREEN COUNCIL ON 15 JANUARY 2018 DURING SYMPOSIUM ON SUSTAINABLE PENANG AT AUDITORIUM A, KOMTAR

Good morning and welcome to the Symposium on Sustainable Penang, titled “Can Penang be Made Sustainable by 2030?”

Penang was hit by the worst floods in the state’s history in November last year. Due to the unusual heavy rainfall of up to a record 372mm, the fiercest storm winds ever seen in Penang’s history at 40 miles per hour (64kmph), where the ferry was even lifted up and pushed inland and the flood had caused the lives of 7 people. Abdul Rahman Dahlan Should Not Try To Sabotage My Right To A Fair Trial To Prove The Corruption Charges Against Me Is A Political Conspiracy In The Looming 14th General Elections But Focus On Explaining Why The Prosecution Is Amending The Charges Against Me 1 ½ Years After I Was First Charged.

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister And DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 14.1.2018.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan has again resorted to theatrics by implying that I deliberately attempted to delay my trial for corruption. This is untrue. Any person accused is bestowed the fundamental constitutional right to defend himself fully in court, especially to observe the basic principles of natural justice that accords the right to a fair trial.

Can The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission(MACC) Take Action Against “Sources” Leaking Confidential Information Of MACC Investigations To The BN-Media On The Tunnel and 3 Main Highway Project That Was Conducted By Open Competitive Tender?

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In George Town, Penang On 13.1.2018.

I am surprised that MACC appears “comfortable” with extensive press reports in the BN mass media, of MACC investigations into the tunnel and 3 main highways project, which is supposed to be confidential, given statutory protection to prevent investigations from being prejudiced and those leaking information of investigations can be severely punished. Despite the repeated failures of the BN media such as The Star, Berita Harian and Utusan Malaysia, to show proof of their false allegations, they continue to print reports of MACC investigations quoting MACC sources. Penang Is The First State Government That Practices Open Competitive Tenders, An Achievement That Earned Commendation From Transparency International.(e/c)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 7.1.2018.

Penang is the first state government in Malaysia to implement the practice of open competitive tenders, an achievement that earned commendation from Transparency International(TI). Irresponsible elements ignore this excellent record when trying to run down and smear the state government’s image that there is no open tender system.

Open competitive tender system is one of the mainstays of CAT governance in Penang of competency, accountability and transparency, that has allowed the state government to record savings in expenditures. Open competitive tender system is one of the principal factors that led to annual Budget surpluses since 2008, a doubling of our asset reserves and a record 90% reduction of state government debt that allows Penang to have the lowest debts in the country.
