2014 portends a pivotal year that will make or break Penang’s promise as a destination of choice for tourists, livable city of choice for residents as well as a location of choice for manufacturing, services and Business Process Outsourcing(BPO) hub. Corruption and Crime, Minimum Wage Policy, Hikes In Petrol Price, Power Tariffs And Highway Tolls Will Not Only Lead to Inflation But Also Negatively Impact Salary Increment And Bonuses For 14.2 Million Malaysian Workers In 2014.(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 30.12.2013.

The 6 factors of corruption and crime, minimum wage policy, hikes in petrol price, power tariffs and highway tolls are will not only lead to inflation but also negatively impact salary increment and bonuses for 14.2 million Malaysian workers in 2014. The Department of Statistics has indicated a softening of the Malaysian economy with seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for October 2013 increasing to 3.5% from 3.1% in September 2013.

With ensuing inflation from price hikes, the smaller salary increments and bonuses will only make livelihood of ordinary Malaysians worse off. According to the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) survey with 257 companies involving more than 13,000 employees, executives can expect a 5.63% average increase in salaries and 5.65% for non-executives in 2014. The average salary increase for non-executives last year was at 6.78 %, slightly higher than that of the executives at 6.31%.

UMNO’s Misuse Of Government Powers To Fund A Racist And Extremist Perkasa Before The General Election Is Not Surprising (en/cn)

Press Statement Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town, On 28.12.2013.

UMNO’s Misuse Of Government Powers To Fund A Racist And Extremist Perkasa Before The General Election Is Not Surprising But MCA, MIC And Gerakan’s Professed Ignorance When They Were In Government Shows That They Are Either Lying Or Completely Irrelevant And Powerless In A BN Coalition Government.

UMNO’s misuse of government powers to fund a racist and extremist Perkasa before the general election is not surprising but MCA, MIC and Gerakan’s professed ignorance when they are in government shows that they are either lying or completely irrelevant and powerless in a BN coalition government. Perkasa secretary-general Syed Hassan Syed Ali admitted receiving funds from government agencies such as the National Security Council (MKN), National Civic Bureau (BTN) and Special Affairs Department (Jasa) to garner Malay votes to help BN win the last general election.

For BN to fund a racist and overtly anti non-Muslim and anti non-Malay organisation like Perkasa that seeks to marginalise non-Malays and non-Muslims as 3rd-class citizens is abominable and exposes the sham of Prime Minister’s Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s slogan of 1 Malaysia. UMNO can no longer blame non-Malays and non-Muslims for not supporting UMNO and BN because their strong suspicions that UMNO is behind Perkasa is now proven correct.

Reaffirms CAT Governance Of Competency, Accountability And Transparency That Upgrades Budget-Based To Outcome-Based Administration That Ensures Economic Growth, Employment Opportunities And Equitable Justice.(en/cn)

2013 Penang Christmas Day Message By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 24.12.2013.

The Penang state government reaffirms CAT governance of competency, accountability and transparency that upgrades budget-based to outcome-based administration that ensures economic growth(pro-growth), employment opportunities(pro-jobs) and equitable justice(pro-poor). Penang has neither been distracted nor detracted from seeking sustainable growth that provides jobs for Malaysians.

There is growing concern at the increased unemployment rate in Malaysia announced by the Department of Statistics at 3.3% in October 2013, up 0.2 percentage point from the 3.1% in September this year. October 2013 saw an increase of the unemployed by 19,100 persons to 462,300 persons, and there was a drop of employed persons by 98,500 to 13.70 million people.

UMNO’s President Advice To MCA That the Health Ministry Issues Political Viagra To Revive Itself Only Reminds Malaysians That With Friends Like UMNO, Who Needs Enemies?(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 22.12.2013.

UMNO’s President Advice To MCA That the Health Ministry Issues Political Viagra To Revive Itself Only Reminds Malaysians That With Friends Like UMNO, Who Needs Enemies?

MCA suffered the ultimate political humiliation, not from the general election losses and rejection by the rakyat, but from their long time friend in UMNO when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak told the MCA General Assembly yesterday, “You have the members, you have the people, but it’s like the flesh is there but the spirit is weak. We need some political Viagra… We ask the Health minister to provide the medication”

Political parties form, survive and evolve through the passionate fire of principles and to bring about desired change for the rakyat. When political parties lose sight of these principles and are tainted by the corrupting influence of money and power, they will be rejected by the rakyat.

BN Should Not Lie That Highway Contracts Cannot Be Renegotiated To Stop Toll Rates Hike (en/bm/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 18.12.2013.

BN Should Not Lie That Highway Contracts Cannot Be Renegotiated To Stop Toll Rates Hike For Companies That Had Recouped Their Investment Or Construction Cost When BN Has Successfully Renegotiated Such Contracts In 2010 To Forestall Toll Increases In Preparation Of The 2013 General Elections.

Following the electricity tariff hike announced on 2nd December 2013, Malaysians will be slammed with a major hike in toll charges involving 13 highways in 2014. BN justifies the increase in toll charges by arrogantly asking Malaysians to use alternative shoddy toll-free roads instead of admitting to selling out the interests of ordinary Malaysians and small businesses to satisfy the insatiable greed of their cronies.

BN Irresponsibly Creating Hatred Amongst Races And Religions To Avoid Answering Their Failures To Curb Corruption, Rising Prices And Cost Of Living, Waste And Inefficiency, Growing Indebtedness Of The Country And Rakyat, Declining Educational Standards And Deteriorating Public Infrastructure.(en/bm/cn)

Opening Speech By DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In The Selangor DAP State Ordinary Convention On 15.12.2013.

BN is behaving irresponsibly by creating hatred amongst races and religions to avoid answering their failures to curb corruption, rising prices and cost of living, waste and inefficiency, growing indebtedness of the country and rakyat, declining educational standards and deteriorating public infrastructure. BN’s hypocrisy and double-standards is not just about talking 1Malaysia to non-Malays and 1Melayu to Malays and talking of national reconciliation and yet illogically blame the Chinese tsunami for causing BN to win only 47% of the popular vote against PR’s 51% when the Chinese only form 25% of the population.

UMNO Masih Tidak Dapat Tunjuk Bukti Atas Dakwaan Fitnah Mereka Bahawa Kerajaan Negeri PR Pulau Pinang Telah Meluluskan Nama Pulau Jerejak Ditukarkan Kepada Pulau Mazhu Dan Juga Untuk Membina Tokong Mazhu.(bm/cn)

LAPORAN TINDAKAN PENGUATKUASAAN RESTORAN DI PANTAI BERSIH DAN KAWASAN SEKITAR

Kenyataan Akhbar Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang Lim Guan Eng Di Komtar, George Town Pada 11.12.13.

UMNO Masih Tidak Dapat Tunjuk Bukti Atas Dakwaan Fitnah Mereka Bahawa Kerajaan Negeri PR Pulau Pinang Telah Meluluskan Nama Pulau Jerejak Ditukarkan Kepada Pulau Mazhu Dan Juga Untuk Membina Tokong Mazhu.

Senseless Loss of Heritage – Destruction of An Ancient Hindu Temple in Bujang Valley, Kedah.(en/bm/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 9.12.2013.

Senseless Loss of Heritage – Destruction of An Ancient Hindu Temple in Bujang Valley, Kedah.

DAP is surprised at the Kedah state government proposal to relocate significant structures from the ancient Lembah Bujang civilisation that is scattered over a 200km square area to a single site. This is out of character of most archaeological excavations of an entire civilisation that are done “in-situ”, except when certain items such as vases or clay figurines can be taken away for display at a museum.

Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said it would be more practical to assemble the structures in one location, as the ruins and remnants from the oldest civilisation in the region were scattered “too far and wide”. But to move or remove them from the original site would risk the danger of detracting, diminishing and even devaluing the unique historical significance of the site chosen by the original inhabitants 2,000 years ago, that is known internationally as the Bujang Valley civilisation. Let the experts decide whether this approach is sound and proper.
