Press Conference Statement By Penang Chief Minister and DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 31.7.2016.
DAP will not press ahead with our proposal to dissolve the Penang State assembly and conduct state general election. This decision was made following quick consultation with party leaders and the Penang state leadership after PKR Deputy President and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali informed me yesterday, that the PKR leadership did not agree with having early polls.
Datuk Seri Azmin, PKR Vice-President Nurul Izzah and PKR National Elections Director Saifudin Nasution had earlier met myself and Penang State Chair Chow Kon Yeow in Penang on 20.7.2016, to listen to our reasons for a state general election. We had explained that it would be be a pro-active strategy not just to let the people decide, whether I should continue as Penang Chief Minister whilst facing the trumped-up corruption allegations against me, but more importantly to pass a verdict on the historic act by the US Attorney-General, of seeking a seizure of US1 billion of assets stolen by 1MDB from Malaysians.
Open Letter to Malaysians By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 28.7.2016.
A Fresh Mandate For A New Malaysia – An Entrepreneurial And Welfare State.
The proposed early general election for Penang is not intended to save Lim Guan Eng from trumped up corruption charges. Lim Guan Eng can not be saved politically. However it is clear that Malaysia and Penang can still be saved from BN’s dirty political manipulation to undermine the people’s yearning for change for a clean Malaysia, that is free from the massive corruption evident in the 1MDB scandal.
BN will not stop at their political conspiracy to character assassinate me that I abused my power to benefit Ms Phang, who sold her 30 year house to me. The truth that she made a profit and not a loss from selling her house to me, is overlooked. The fact that she has no direct business dealings and did not benefit from the state government is ignored – her land is still zoned as agricultural and could not be rezoned as housing, after the local government council rejected her application. PKR Deputy President and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, PKR Vice-President Nurul Izzah and PKR National Elections Director Saifudin Nasution met me at my office yesterday, in the presence of DAP Penang State Chairman Chow Kon Yeow, to discuss the matter of conducting state general election in Penang.
The DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) at our meeting on 18.7.2016 had unanimously decided that since the imprisonment of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, severe abuses of power by BN have severely eroded democracy in the country, private and confidential discussions will be held with our allies in Pakatan Harapan on whether to hold or not state general election in Penang. Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 17.7.2016.
In the past 4 months, the BN-controlled print and broadcasting media had gone into overdrive with their systematic campaign of character assassination against me by hurling unfounded allegations of corruption involving the sale by open tender of 1 acre of Taman Manggis land. Despite nightly TV reports and acres of newsprint on Taman Manggis land, no corruption charge was filed against me relating to Taman Manggis. Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 8.7.2016.
I refer to Bernama report highlighting my speech at the opening of the Penang Institute RM5 million new building 10 days ago which was only published now. The gist of the text of my speech stresses on the practice of freedom in Penang, the only place where there is freedom before speech and freedom after speech in Malaysia.
I had reminded Penang Institute that whilst such freedom gives them the right to dissent and have opposing views with the state government even publicly, as the principal funders of Penang Institute the state government expects loyalty. In other words, they can not work secretively and surreptitiously with those who openly oppose and wants to bring down the state government.
Continue reading ‘Perutusan Hari Raya Aidilfitri DAP (e/c)’

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 1.7.2016.
When BN and BN Ministers launched their big “expose” of my so-called corruption scandal of buying my bungalow lot cheaply, they linked it to the sale of over 1 acre of government land in Taman Manggis for a hospital project they claimed is meant for the poor. Even though the Penang state government repeatedly explained that it was the previous BN state government that had wanted to develop Taman Manggis land commercially and that it had nothing to do with the purchase of my bungalow because the Taman Manggis land was sold off to the highest bidder by open competitive tender, BN continued their political conspiracy and attack.
The two charges of corrupt practice against me has finally exposed the political conspiracy of BN and its leaders, especially Minister in the Prime Minister Department Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, as not only a coward and liar but also a dishonest hypocrite. There are no corruption charges against me relating to Taman Manggis. Despite all the hype and even threats for a public debate that Abdul Rahman then chickened out, nothing came out of the Taman Manggis land investigations proving the lies of BN.
