Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 29.6.2014.
The 3 new MCA and Gerakan Ministers should demand that Cabinet rejects the implementation of hudud laws during their first cabinet meeting on Wednesday and that Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi apologise for calling the Chinese ungrateful during the Teluk Intan by-election and that DAP Sri Delima ADUN RSN Rayer deserved the cow’s head attack on Rayer’s home in Penang. MCA and Gerakan had publicly opposed the implementation of hudud laws and criticised Ahmad Zahid for condoning the cow head attack on Rayer’s home by saying that this was the price Rayer had to pay for being a “big mouth.”
What is the point of becoming a Cabinet Minister if they remain silent and dare not speak up in Cabinet meetings what they had loudly opposed outside in the press? This is similar to the Selangor UMNO Opposition Leader stating that UMNO’s motion in the Selangor State Assembly to study the implementation of hudud laws in Selangor was conveyed to MCA President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong who had kept quiet.

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 28.6.2014.
For those who claim that the Penang state government is relying solely on selling off all state land in Penang to generate revenue, this is untrue as BN has sold 35 times more land than PR and yet received less money. This issue has been explained many times even before the 2013 general elections but the BN-controlled mass media have never published our replies allowing irresponsible BN leaders to regurgitate their lies serially every year.
Fortunately the people of Penang can distinguish truth from lies and accept the fact that BN has sold at least 3,661 acres of land for RM 1.0586 billion as compared to PR selling only 106.1 acres for a higher return of RM 1.1102 billion. (see table below)
BN sold 3,661 acres of land but even though BN sold 35 times more land than PR’s 106.1 acres, PR got more money because PR’s land sales were conducted by open competitive tender. This fact of PR conducting open competitive tender was one of the reasons why PR was returned with the largest mandate in Penang’s history with 68% of the popular vote in the 2013 general election.

Press Statement by DAP Secretary-General and MP for Bagan Lim Guan Eng in Kuala Lumpur on 27 June 2014.
The new appointments of 1 Gerakan Cabinet Ministers, 2 MCA Cabinet Ministers and 3 MCA Deputy Minister is a clear victory for personal interest over public interest, political positions over principle and UMNO’s dominance of BN over everything else. By being appointed to “empty and meaningless” Ministries of the Prime Minister Cabinet portfolios(except for the Transport Ministry), both MCA and Gerakan have shown they enjoy even less influence over BN government policy than Perkasa.
Despite MIC having fewer parliamentary seats of four to MCA’s 7, the 2 MIC Ministers were given more influential Ministries in important portfolios like Natural Resources and Environment and Health helmed by Datuk G. Palanievel and Datuk S Subramaniam. Public expectations were that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will at least replace some UMNO Cabinet Ministers to return traditional MCA portfolios to MCA. However this did not happen and instead of reducing UMNO Cabinet members, Najib chose to increase his Cabinet to 35 members.

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 26 June 2014.
Inspector-General of Police(IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar should stop making threats of taking action for sedition, against those who question the decision of the Federal Court that the BN Federal government had a right to ban the Catholic weekly “The Herald” from using kalimah “Allah”. The IGP’s warnings is unbecoming for a police chief charged with protecting the public, and smacks of double-standards when no action is taken against UMNO leaders from Perkasa, who on 23 June 2014 repeated their calls for the closure of the vernacular Chinese and Tamil primary schools.
Malaysians have a legal and constitutional right to question any court decision that is finally decided. This is in accordance with political, social, and judicial norms of our country since Merdeka. Criticism of court decisions based on the law also complies with international practices and natural laws. If court decisions can not be questioned, then this is no longer a democracy governed by rule of law but a dictatorship governed by men pretending to act under divine laws.

Shockwaves have rippled through the international community as the world comes to terms with the Egyptian court’s decision on Monday to sentence Al-Jazeera journalist Peter Greste and two of his media colleagues, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed, to a jail term of between seven to ten years.
Peter, an Australian, ex-CNN journalist Mohamed and local producer Baher, along with two British and one Dutch journalist who were tried in absentia, were sentenced on charges of aiding terrorists and endangering national security, simply because they had reported on the recent Egyptian unrest.

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 25.6.2014.
DAP expressed grave disappointment at the Federal Court decision on 23 June 2014, in refusing to grant the Catholic weekly The Herald’s application for leave, to appeal the Court of Appeal decision which upheld a Home Ministry ban against it from using the word ‘Allah’. By refusing to even grant leave to appeal, the Federal Court not only negates the right to seek justice in the highest law courts but also denies the right to be heard on a fundamental legal and constitutional right of freedom or religion and freedom of expression.
What is equally disappointing is the BN Federal government’s announcement that it is committed to the 10-point solution, mooted on 2 April 2011 by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala, allowing Malaysian Christians to still use the word ‘Allah’ in church. This is the contradictory and even hypocritical position by the BN Federal government that it respects and asks all parties to abide by the Federal Court decision but that the court ruling only applies to The Herald newspaper’s use of the word ‘Allah’ and not the right of Christians to use “Allah” in church.

Wong Ho Leng – Passing Of A Giant In Sarawak Politics
When I received a message on 21 June 2014 from Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua of Sdr Wong Ho Leng’s passing, whilst attending a thanksgiving ceramah for DAP’s victory in the Bukit Glugor parliamentary by-election, I felt sadness at a loss of a dear comrade-in-arms but yet marveled at Ho Leng’s fighting spirit.

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 21.6.2014.
The Penang state government regrets the irresponsible and continued misrepresentation made by opposition BN in blaming the Pakatan Rakyat state government for not having any proper or long-term planning for the Penang international airport that resulted in the Kedah state government asking for a new international airport to be built in Kulim. 5 facts must be stated here.
One, it is the Federal government and not the Penang state government that owns, operates and regulates the Penang International Airport. The Penang state government has no choice but to comply with the Transport Ministry on any expansion plans which are solely decided by them. During the last RM 250 million Penang International airport expansion project, contractors were appointed by the Transport Ministry and the state government has no say and was never consulted. And yet, BN continues to blame the Penang state government for the shameful flooding at the Penang International Airport. Is BN also going to blame the Penang state government for the airport roof leaking every time it rains or the dirty toilets?

The spate of kidnappings of tourists and Malaysians in Sabah has highlighted the failure of the police to deliver on their statutory duty to combat crime and ensure the safety and security of Malaysia. Even Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz complained that the recent kidnapping cases in Sabah have had more impact on the tourism industry than the disappearance of the MH370 jetliner in March.
Travel advisories issued by countries such as the United States, Britain and Germany against Malaysia. This appears to confirm the Unisys Security Index 2014 Report that listed Malaysia as No.2 spot amongst 12 countries which are most worried about their security. Only the drug-ridden country of Mexico is considered more dangerous than Malaysia.

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 19.6.2014.
1Malaysia A Cruel Political Gimmick When BN Does Not Respect Non-Muslim Rights Even Their Parental Rights Over Their Own Children.
BN only talks about 1 Malaysia in Sabah and Sarawak. In Peninsular Malaysia, the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s 1Malaysia is truly dead and buried from the moment Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin declared in 2010 that he was a Malay first and a Malaysian second.
1Malaysia is a cruel political gimmick when BN does not respect non-Muslim rights, even their parental rights over their own children. First, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom declared that Malaysia is not a secular state but an Islamic state in a written parliamentary reply to DAP Sibu MP Oscar Ling. This outrageous attempt to change the basic framework of the Federal Constitution derived during Merdeka in 1957 and the formation of Malaysia in 1963 ignores the fact that our country’s laws are clearly secular in nature.

DAP expressed shock at the arrest of DAP’s Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer at the Penang North-East Police District Headquarters in Jalan Pattani where he is expected to be charged under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act tomorrow morning over his “Umno celaka” remark. I was informed by Rayer who is presently posting police bail, whilst I am here in Kuala Lumpur attending the Conference of Rulers at the Royal Palace.
Rayer reiterated that he had never repeated outside the House what he had said inside the State Assembly meeting. As such this sedition charge against Rayer is not only politically motivated but also double-standards and selective prosecution by the Attorney-General. To be charged for sedition for a statement made against another political party and not against any racial groups inside the House is also disrespect bordering on contempt to the supremacy of parliamentary democracy as well as to the sanctity of the Penang State Assembly as the highest institution in Penang.
