Penang State Flags Shall Be Flown At Half-Mast to Mourn The Passing Of Tun Dato Seri Utama Dr Lim Chong Eu Until His Funeral

The Penang state government and 1.6 million people of Penang mourn the passing of the Penang’s 2nd Chief Minister Tun Dato Seri Utama Dr Lim Chong Eu. I have directed that all government departments to fly the Penang state flag at half mast until after his funeral as a sign of deep mourning and sorrow.

All Penang state flags at state government institutions will be flown at half-mast to mourn the passing of Penang’s longest serving Chief Minister and father of Penang’s economic transformation of industrialization and modernisation, Tun Dato Seri Utama Dr Lim Chong Eu.

I have asked the State Secretary Dato Zainal Rahim bin Seman to request all Federal government departments and schools to fly the Penang flag at half-mast until after his burial is carried out as a mark of respect for this giant of a politician who ushered in a new age for Penang. The state government has announced that it will accord Tun Dato Seri Utama Dr Lim Chong Eu a state funeral subject to the wishes of his family. However the state government is willing to give way should the Federal government wishes to conduct a national funeral to honour his immeasurable contributions.

Tun Dato Seri Utama Dr Lim Chong Eu Shall Be Accorded A State Funeral By The Penang State Government

I wish to express deep sorrow when I was informed that Penang’s longest-serving Chief Minister Tun Dato Seri Utama Dr Lim Chong Eu passed away at 9.07pm. I am presently on a business networking trip in Hong Kong.

I was informed of Tun’s passing by Tun’s son Lim Chien Cheng at 9.34pm. I had immediately extended the Penang state government’s deepest condolences to Lim Chien Cheng and his family. I was also told by Tun’s personal physician, Dato Seri Dr Lim, that Tun was released from Penang General Hospital earlier in the day when his condition deteriorated and passed away at his home in Tanjung Bungah.

I will be returning home from Hong Kong to Penang the next day and will make an official statement on my return.

Kemajuan Pembinaan Jambatan Kedua Pulau Pinang Setakat 16.7%, Dan Menyeru Bilangan Subkontraktor Pulau Pinang Dinaikkan Kepada Lebih 50% Berbanding 24.5% Sekarang.

The obsession by MCA leaders for mega projects instead of people’s interests is very unhealthy

Kong Cho Ha Should Explain What Is Wrong For MMC-Gamuda JV Sdn Bhd To Give Letters Of Gurantee Protecting The Public Against Floods When The Transport Ministry Can Issue Letters Of Guarantee To Private Companies Embroiled In The RM 12.85 Billion Port Klang Free Trade Zone Scandal.

The obsession by MCA leaders for mega projects instead of people’s interests is very unhealthy. Transport Minister Kong Cho Ha has continued his unjustified criticism against the stop-work order on the RM 13 billion Ipoh-Padang Besar Electrified Double Track Project (EDTP) even though the stop-work order was lifted when the contractor complied with Penang’s request to issue written letters of guarantee to protect the public against major floods.

Datuk Seri Rais Yatim Should Prove How Melaka Has Been More Proactive Than Penang In Promoting Heritage And Arts

Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim should provide evidence that backs his claims that Melaka has been more proactive than Penang in promoting heritage conservation since 2008, instead of making baseless attacks that are politically motivated to run down the PR state government. If true, Penang is willing to learn from Melaka’s successes. However, even Rais’ Ministry’s officials have lauded Penang for the work done in advancing heritage since George Town was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Kerajaan Berjiwa Rakyat Yang Memartabatkan Rakyat

Ucapan Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang dan Pengerusi Pakatan Rakyat Pulau Pinang Lim Guan Eng Dalam Konvensyen Pakatan Rakyat Pertama Di Komtar, George Town Pada 21.11.2010.

Why Datuk Seri Kong is even more excited than the contractor in protesting when the contractor has not make a single comment?

The Penang state government reminds Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha that the stop-work order on the RM 13 billion Ipoh-Padang Besar Electrified Double Track Project (EDTP) is not issued against the Transport Ministry but against the contractor MCC-Gamuda Joint Venture Sdn Bhd. I am puzzled as to why Datuk Seri Kong is even more excited than the contractor in protesting when the contractor has not make a single comment.

Kong is wrong to say that we have used the stop-work order to politicize the issue or as a weapon to threaten the Federal Government, as it is directed only against the contractor. At no time did we criticize the Federal government or Kong and yet he is scolding us so ferociously.

The Penang state government is willing to meet with the Transport Minister

The Penang state government is willing to meet with the Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha to discuss the stop work issued by the Penang State EXCO on 12 November 2010 on the Ipoh-Padang Besar Electrified Double Track Project (EDTP). I am willing to listen to Datuk Seri Kong’s explanation that this RM 15 billion project did not cause or worsen the worst floods ever in Kedah. If convinced by Datuk Seri Kong, I am willing to recommend an immediate lifting of the stop-work order on the contractor, MMC-Gamuda JV Sdn Bhd.

On 12 November 2010, the Penang Government had directed Majlis Perbandaran Seberang Perai(MPSP) to issued a stop-work order as a pre-emptive move necessary to prevent major floods in the Penang on the same scale as in Kedah. This follows the statements by both the Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung and Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak that the recent major floods in Kedah were possibly due to the project.

5 Core Principles Of Middle Malaysia

Speech By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng During The Perak DAP State Ordinary Convention In Ipoh On 14.11.2010.

Two years ago, the last Perak State Ordinary Convention was a moment of triumph as we celebrated the extraordinary achievement of being a partner in power with the historic victory of the Perak state government. Now, Perak voters have lost their freedom to elect the government of their choice following the coup de’tat by BN that negated the mandate of the people.

Two years ago, Nobel Peace Prize Winner Aung Sang Syu Kyi was still detained by the Myanmar military junta. Today she is finally free after spending 15 years in detention. Let us extend our congratulations and applaud her quiet courage and determination to persevere in her historic struggle to bring democracy, freedom and dignity to her people.

2010 Deepavali Message

By DAP Secretary-General and MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In DAP Kuala Lumpur Headquarters On 3.11.2010.

Tamil Version

I wish all Hindus in Malaysia a very happy and blessed Deepavali. May this Festival of Lights bring us peace, joy and harmony as we celebrate this special day with all our brothers and sisters of different faiths.

Deepavali, a symbol of the triumph of good over evil, must guide us in our endeavour to battle ignorance, racism and religious extremism.

DAP with our partners PAS and PKR in Pakatan Rakyat believe in unity in diversity, and the need to preserve harmony through dialogues and discussions, instead of hurling accusations against one another.
