Malaysians Celebrate A Gloomy World Press Freedom Day 2010 By Remaining In The Bottom 32% Of Countries In The World With A Press That Is Classified By Freedom House As “Not Free”.
Malaysians celebrate a gloomy World Press Freedom day 2010 by being in the bottom 32% of countries in the world with a press that is classified by Freedom House as “not free”. Freedom House is an independent watchdog organization based in the US that supports the expansion of freedom around the world. Freedom House supports democratic change, monitors freedom, and advocates for democracy and human rights.
In its latest 2010 Global Press Freedom rankings, Malaysia is listed at No. 141 equal with war-torn Zambia and Algeria as well as behind other war-torn countries such as Pakistan, and Liberia at 134. With 3 press freedom categories of ‘Free’, ‘Partly Free’ and ‘Not Free’ amongst 196 countries in the world, Malaysia is classified together with 63 countries in the world whose press is “not free”.

World Press Freedom Day Message By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In World Heritage City of George Town, Penang On 2 May 2010.
Selangor’s Success In Enacting The Freedom Of Information(FOI) Act Will Be Adopted As Penang’s Intent On Enacting The FOI Blocked On Constitutional Grounds By The Penang State Legal Advisor.
Year after year DAP, National Union of Journalists and even Suhakam calls tthe federal government to abolish the Printing Presses and Publications Act, the Internal Security Act, the Official Secrets Act and other repressive laws inherited from the British colonial days. We even asked for the enactment of the Freedom of Information Act(FOI) to ensure competency, accountability and transparency in governance.

May Day Message by the Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng in Komtar, George Town on Saturday 1.5.2010
I would like to express concern over the federal government’s proposed amendments to Malaysia’s major labour laws that could affect the rights and livelihood of our workers.
The proposed amendments to the Industrial Relations Act 1967, Trade Union Act 1959 and Employment Act 1955 have been described by the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) as the worst plan conceived against Malaysian workers.
According to MTUC, if the amendment to the Industrial Relations Act is approved, it could take away employees’ right to bring up any case of wrongful dismissal to the Industrial Court.

In conjunction with Labour Day 2010, DAP urges the federal government to introduce a two-tier system of a compulsory minimum wage to ensure all our workers would earn basic salary above the poverty level and an aspirational fair wage.
Minimum wage
The absolute poverty rate in Malaysia is at 3.6 per cent, yet there are reports that some workers are still earning basic wages below the poverty line. Since the minimum wage is the lowest salary level that employers are legally bound to pay, I would like to propose a minimum monthly wage based on the poverty line of RM720 in Peninsular Malaysia, RM960 in Sabah and RM830 in Sarawak.
Although it may not sound much to some people, it must be understood that are still a lot of workers earning less than RM720 a month in this country. The minimum wage must be based on poverty level, and as such, different basic wages will paid in different states, according to the poverty line, as long as it is above the level.
Employers should not be alarmed by this proposal as this would only benefit them in the long run. The minimum wage will alleviate problems faced by their respective workers from the pressure of the ever-increasing costs of living such as prices of food, petrol, public transportation, lodging and other bills to be paid monthly. Such a personal pressure can affect a worker’s productivity and creativity.

I wish to express my highest appreciation to the 13 DAP branches and all our cadres in Hulu Selangor for their fantastic spirit and contribution during the Hulu Selangor by-election. It was a great and memorable fight, a historic PR and DAP battle which will pave the way for our future development in the constituency.
From the result, we have in fact won the Kuala Kubu Baru state seat and Batang Kali is most fightable. This will ensure two extra state seats to be won by PR and DAP in the next general election, to further strengthen the PR Selangor Government.
Therefore, although we are all disappointed that PR candidate, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim did not win, the future is clearly with the PR.

Tambahan Peruntukan 50 juta Bagi Pelaksanaan Program, Aktiviti dan Acara Sektor Pelancongan Negeri Pulau Pinang Dan Bukan Hanya Setakat RM500,000 Dari Kerajaan Pusat

The recent self-contradictory remarks by BN leaders remind me of Robert Louis Stevenson’s 19th century classic, “The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde”. Is there a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in the BN administration with a split personality of 1Malaysia encompassing all together with a racial UMNO dominance lording over everyone?
Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak had worked assiduously to impose his rule with a clever marketing strategy of 1Malaysia. Even though 1Malaysia is short on details but long on creating a feel-good factor whatever that means, he must be buoyed by favourable poll ratings in the latest surveys.

Perlu Ada Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) Dan Landasan Kapalterbang Kedua(2nd Runway) Selaras Dengan Sumbangan Oleh Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Bayan Lepas.

Prove Press Freedom By Taking Action Against Utusan Malaysia For Its Lies Against Pakatan Rakyat Leaders Preaching Racial Hatred And Dominance.
DAP urges Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to prove that there is press freedom in Malaysia by taking action against Utusan Malaysia for its lies against Pakatan Rakyat leaders, preaching racial hatred and dominance. China Press had reported correctly that the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hasan was leaving but they got the dates wrong by stating May when it was September this year. This difference of only a few months should not warrant such a harsh action of suspending their editor-in-chief Teoh Yong Khoon for two weeks especially when China Press had already apologized publicly.
