National Day Message 2010(in Penang)

Penang 2010 National Day Message By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 31 August 2010.

Let Penang Be A Beacon Of Hope For Merdeka, Democracy, Integrity, Public Morality And A People”s Government As Well As A Symbol Of National Unity Who Live Together In Harmony And Mutual Respect.

As we celebrate our 53 Merdeka, the country appears more divided than ever by racial, religious and even personal hatred. Fomenting racial and religious intolerance and hatred is now the rule rather than the exception.

The biggest challenge is whether Malaysians can rise above the language of violence used by extremists and fulfil our destiny of Merdeka 53 years ago of a shared society belonging to all and promising prosperity to everyone. Penang is under constant siege and attack by extremists and political foes from BN and UMNO who use lies to create tension and division. Continue reading ‘National Day Message 2010(in Penang)’

Perutusan Hari Kemerdekaan Ke 53

Utusan Malaysia Should Withdraw And Apologise For Cheating Malaysians With Their False Reports On A Big Civil War In Malaysia Bigger Than The 1969 May 13 Racial Riots.

Utusan Malaysia should withdraw and apologise for cheating Malaysians with their false reports of a big civil war in Malaysia bigger than the 1969 May 13 racial riots. This threat of a bigger war that May 13 was in a special column by Penolong Ketua Pengarang I of Kumpulan Utusan Malaysia, Datuk Zaini Hassan , entitled “Benar ‘perang besar’ boleh berlaku di Malaysia”.

No proof had been offered of who was pushing for a new constitution or what were its contents. Utusan only referred to Perak Mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria’s claim that three copies of the “new” Federal Constitution were given to him during a ceramah in Alor Setar.

DAP Leaders Must Be Careful Not To Fall Into BN’s Trap Of Using The UMNO-MCA “Sandiwara” Quarrel As An Excuse To Apply The ISA Powers Of Detention Without Trial As Happened During Operasi Lallang In 1987.

DAP leaders must be careful not to fall into BN’s trap of using the UMNO-MCA “sandiwara” quarrel as an excuse to exercise the Internal Security Act(ISA) powers of detention without trial. This “sandiwara” quarrel is a chilling reprise of the events during 1987 when then Deputy President Datuk Lee Kim Sai had a media war with then UMNO Youth President Datuk Najib Tun Razak.

This verbal media war between MCA and UMNO was then used a pretext by BN to initiate Operasi Lallang. However instead of detaining both UMNO and MCA leaders involved, DAP, PAS and PSM leaders were detained. Only Datuk Lee was asked to go on holiday to Australia.

MCA, UMNO or Even Perkasa Would Have No Need To Quarrel Over The NEP And The 30% Bumi Corporate Equity Requirement If A Royal Commission Of Inquiry Is Set Up To Determine How RM 52 Billion Of Shares Meant For Malay/Bumis Were Hijacked By The Few BN Leaders.

MCA, UMNO or even Perkasa would have no need to quarrel over the 30% bumi corporate equity requirement if a Royal Commission of Inquiry is set up to determine how RM 52 billion of shares meant for Malay/Bumis were hijacked by the few BN leaders. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had admitted that of the RM 54 billion in bumi shares given out since the New Economic Policy(NEP) was launched in 1970, only RM 2 billion remained in bumi hands.

Clearly the RM 52 billion worth of shares given to the few Malay/bumi leaders were cashed out and sold off. Stern action and the full force of the law should be unleashed at this open sabotage of the NEP. If the RM 52 billion worth of bumi shares still remained in bumi hands, then the 30% bumi/Malay equity target under the NEP would have long been achieved.

Death Threat Against Tony Pua A Dangerous Escalation Of Political Polemics Of Race To Violent Threats Against Pakatan Rakyat Leaders.

DAP is disturbed by the death threats against Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, who received a bullet with a threatening note on 11.8.2010. DAP condemns these threats against Tony and his family as a dangerous escalation of political polemics of race to violent threats against Pakatan Rakyat(PR) leaders.

Pua had said he did not rule out that the threat was related to his proposal to the Selangor government to slash Bumiputera discounts for luxury homes and commercial property to be channeled to help the poor. DAP can not understand why these bumi discounts for the rich should not be rechannelled to the bumi poor?

Where else in the world but Malaysia do you have millionaires enjoying discounts for purchasing luxury homes? Tony was making a suggestion that instead of millionaire bumis enjoying these discounts, the discounts should be taken out and paid to a fund for the bumi poor.

By refusing to develop the issue on social merits, opponents of PR have turned it into a political polemics of race. Unable to win the argument on social merits, these opponents of PR are now escalating the matter into violent threats. DAP detests such violent threats and will discuss this at the DAP Central Executive Committee(CEC) meeting tonight.

All organisations in Penang should become “water-friendly” organisations

All organisations in Penang should become “water-friendly” organisations in support of Penang’s drive to promote wise water usage and cultivate a water saving society.

Chief Minister Y.A.B. Lim Guan Eng said Penang needed more water-friendly organisations because its water consumption was increasing too rapidly for a state that was highly dependent on a “shared” raw water resource – the Muda River. Both Penang and Kedah draw water from this river daily.
