Failure by the BN Federal government to upgrade the Penang International Airport for around RM 600 million but spend at least RM 2 billion to build a new international airport in Kulim will be seen as a vindictive act (en/bm/cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 18.6.2014.

Failure by the BN Federal government to upgrade the Penang International Airport for around RM 600 million but spend at least RM 2 billion to build a new international airport in Kulim will be seen as a vindictive act to punish Penang for supporting PR and rejecting BN with the largest mandate in history when PR garnered 68% of the popular vote in the Penang.

Can Penang BN tell Penangites what is their real stand following the contradictory position of UMNO Penang’s support against Gerakan’s opposition of the plan by Kedah state government to build a new International Airport next to Penang in Kulim? UMNO Penang had said that Penang should not feel threatened by a new international airport in Kulim with Penang UMNO Chairman Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman even asking what is there to fear since I had developed Penang well. On the other hand Penang BN Chairman Teng Chang Yeow had opposed the proposed Kulim International Airport.

The Penang International Airport is in urgent need of an upgrade and expansion following the sterling double-digit passenger growth over the last 6years to 5.5 million passengers in 2013. Passenger growth is expected to exceed the Penang International Airpot’s capacity of 6.5 million passengers by next year. This is a testimony to the success of the efforts by the state government to attract tourists and investors to make Penang as the preferred location of choice.

Does MCA And Gerakan Dare To Sacrifice Their Ministerial Posts For Principle That They Will Not Enter Cabinet Unless The Prime Minister Reverses The BN Government’s Twin Declarations In Parliament That Malaysia Is Not A Secular But An Islamic State And Support Hudud Laws To Be Implemented On Muslims in Kelantan?

Does MCA and Gerakan dare to sacrifice their Ministerial posts for principle that they will not enter Cabinet unless the Prime Minister reverses the BN’s government’s twin declarations in Parliament that Malaysia is not a secular but an Islamic state and will support hudud laws to be implemented on Muslims in Kelantan? This was stated by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom in Parliament on 27 March 2014 and in a written answer to Sibu MP Oscar Ling Chai Yew in Parliament last week.

Penang Has No Objections To A New International Airport Costing More Than RM 2 Billion Being Built In Kulim, Kedah, If The Penang International Airport Is Upgraded(en/cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 15.6.2014.

Penang Has No Objections To A New International Airport Costing More Than RM 2 Billion Being Built In Kulim, Kedah, If The Penang International Airport Is Upgraded With 2 Runways, A Fully-Integrated Air Cargo Facility As Well As Establish A Maintenance, Repair And Overhaul(MRO) Hub.

Penang has no objection to a new international airport costing easily more than RM 2 billion being built in Kulim, Kedah, if the Penang International Airport can be upgraded with 2 runways, a fully-integrated air cargo facility as well as establish a maintenance, repair and overhaul(MRO) aerospace hub. The cost of the new international airport in Kulim is a conservative estimate and could be double the amount based on the final cost of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2(KLIA2) ballooning to RM 4 billion from the original estimate of RM 1.7 billion.

Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir claimed that building an international airport in Kulim, Kedah, was not a waste of money like Penang’s proposed tunnel project as it would be a gateway to the northern states and southern Thailand. He added that Penang had limited land space unlike Kedah, which had enough land for an airport.

The DAP Central Executive Committee(CEC) at its meeting last night made the following decisions:-

A. Instruct all DAP Wanita And DAP Socialist Youth(DAPSY) State Committees To Lodge Police Reports Against Inspector General Of Police(IGP).

The DAP CEC instructs all DAP Wanita and DAPSY state committees to lodge police reports against the IGP for being in contempt of the Federal Constitution and gross failure to perform his statutory role by refusing to enforce and comply with civil court orders on child custody cases. A template of the report will be provided by DAP National Legal Bureau chief and Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo and DAP National Vice-Chair and Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran. Kula is also the lawyer for M Indira Gandhi and had successfully obtained an Ipoh High Court order granting custody of her daughter following a legal tussle with her Muslim convert ex-husband.

What Is The Point Of The Prime Minister Referring Interfaith Child Custody Cases To The Federal Court For Resolution(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On13.6.2014

What Is The Point Of The Prime Minister Referring Interfaith Child Custody Cases To The Federal Court For Resolution If Both The Minister For Home Affairs And Inspector-General Of Police(IGP) Prefers To Politicise The Issue By Refusing To Comply With Civil Court Orders?

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s suggestion urging families involved in interfaith child custody cases to use the Federal Court to resolve them is an empty one when his own Minister of Home Affairs Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and IGP Khalid Abu Bakar is in contempt of civil court orders. What is the point of the Prime Minister referring interfaith child custody cases to the Federal Court for resolution if both the Minister for Home Affairs and IGP prefers to politicise the issue by refusing to comply with civil court orders?

Not Only Inspector-General of Police(IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar But Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi Should Also Resign If The IGP Can Refuse To Comply With Civil Court Children Custodial Orders, Permitting The Criminal Deaths Of Those Under Police Custody To Continue And Condoning Violent Acts By Pro-BN Gangsters.(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 12.6.2014

Not Only Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar but Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should also resign if the IGP can refuse to comply with civil court children custodial orders, permitting the criminal deaths of those under police custody to continue and condoning violent acts by pro-BN gangsters. The IGP has caused outrage when he stated that the police would remain neutral in cases where there are conflicting judgements between syariah and civil courts regarding the custody of children.

The two civil court orders that the children be returned to the mother involve M Indira Gandhi against her ex-spouse Muhammad Ridhuan Abdullah in Ipoh, and the case of S Deepa against her ex-spouse Izwan Abdullah in Seremban. To avoid being “sandwiched” by a conflicting syariah court order that gave custody to the Muslim husband convert, the IGP said the police will choose the middle path by not enforcing the two civil court orders and instead placing the children in childcare centres.

Teluk Intan Voters Must Be Regretting For Making A Wrong Choice Of Supporting A BN That Supports Hudud Laws.(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 11.6.2014

Would MCA review their position in BN, as promised by MCA Deputy President Datuk Wee Ka Siong, if UMNO proposes hudud laws to be implemented in Malaysia? Such a review would effectively mean MCA leaving BN? That UMNO proposing hudud laws being implemented has become a reality following the action of Umno’s Sungai Air Tawar assemblyperson Kamarol Zaki Abdul Malik UMNO submitting a motion to Selangor speaker Hannah Yeoh that the state look into the possibility of enforcing hudud in Selangor.

By submitting this hudud motion at the Selangor State Assembly, UMNO has proven that it is the real instigator in pushing for the implementation of hudud laws. DAP challenges Wee to review MCA’s position and withdraw from BN or else he should retire from politics for being an unprincipled liar!

Putting People And Not Profits First By Closing Down Lynas Rare Earth Plant Instead of Issuing a Permanent or Temporary Operating License(POL or TOL) and Scrapping The Proposed Two Nuclear-Power Generating Plants. (en/bm/cn)

2014 World Environment Day Message By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 4 Jun 2014.

Malaysia should celebrate World Environment Day by putting people and not profits first by closing down Lynas rare earth plant instead of issuing a TOL or POL and scrapping the proposed two nuclear-power generating plants. Malaysian regulatory authority Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) should explain whether they are approving the application by Lynas for the Permanent Operating License following Lynas financial crisis and non-compliance with the conditions stated in the Temporary Operating License(TOL).

Last month, Lynas Corp. planned to defer some debt repayments and sell as much as A$40 million in shares after it share prices slumped. Lynas had spent about A$1 billion ($930 million) on a rare earths processing plant in Kuantan. The TOL (Temporary Operating License) for two years is due to expire on the 2nd September 2014.
