To correct a mistake in my statement yesterday (en/bm/cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 12.1.2014.

I wish to correct a mistake in my statement yesterday on IKEA’s entry into Penang. Yesterday’s statement reported that PDC had sold 245 acres of land by Penang Development Corporation(PDC) for RM 284 million to Aspen Vision Land Sdn Bhd and Ikano Pte Ltd, that is to be fully paid in 5 years.

This is wrong. The correct amount should be RM 483,951,600(rounded up to RM 484 million). This important detail was overlooked as we have been working hard over the last one week to close two historic events, namely IKEA’s entry into Penang and winning the rights to host for the first time ever the World Women Squash Championship in March 2014.

A Minimum Monthly Wage Of RM 1,100 Combined With A Grace Period For SMEs For 5 Years Would Serve To Increase Income For Malaysians And Help Economic Growth By Protecting Malaysian SMEs.(en/cn)

Opening Speech By DAP Secretary-General and MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng During The Johor DAP State Ordinary Convention In Batu Pahat On 12.1.2014.

The price hikes by the BN Federal government this year in sugar, petrol, power tariffs and road tolls has highlighted the sad fact that wages can not keep up with inflation. Real wages of export-oriented industries rose by 1.9% whilst that of domestic-oriented industries rose by 1.4% after 1997.

DAP proposes a minimum monthly wage of RM 1,100 combined with a grace period for SMEs for 5 years would serve to increase income for Malaysians and help economic growth by protecting Malaysian SMEs. I believe thatPR’s minimum wage policy is RM 1,100 monthly is acceptable to Small and Medium Entreprises(SMEs) provided that it does not cover foreign workers. After the 5 years grace period, SMEs have to pay the minimum monthly wage to all foreign and local workers.

Penang Will Host the 30th WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 On March 14-21 2014 in PISA Stadium, Penang.(en/cn)

Press Conference By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Garden Hotel, Kuala Lumpur On 11.1.2014.

Penang will host the 30th WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 on March 14-21 2014 in PISA Stadium, Penang. This follows the cancellation of the 2013 Women’s World Championship when both Hong Kong and Egypt rejected proposals to organise it last year.

Penang aspires to be a sporting city as part of clean, green, healthy and safe Penang. WSA’s agreement to permit Penang to host this event is recognition that Penang has the facilities, amenities and infrastructure of a fitting location for a world event as well as the experience and expertise to organise a world championship.

The cancellation last year meant world No. 1 Nicol David will keep her world crown for an extended period. Continue reading “Penang Will Host the 30th WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 On March 14-21 2014 in PISA Stadium, Penang.(en/cn)”

DAP’s Impian Sabah Of Providing Basic Facilities To The Sabah Poor Will Be The Promise Of Change Towards A Better Sabah With Dignity, Freedom, Justice, Democracy And Integrity.(en/cn)

DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng’s Opening Speech At The DAP Sabah State Ordinary Convention On 11.1.2014 In Kota Kinabalu.

DAP’s Impian Sabah of providing basic facilities to the Sabah poor will be the promise of change towards a better Sabah with dignity, freedom, justice, democracy and integrity. By using DAP’s limited resources to provide water and electricity to native Sabahan villages neglected by BN over the last 50 years, DAP can prove by words and deeds that we can do much more in government than the little we are able to do as an opposition party.

Apart from breaking their promises in the General Elections promises, what has BN done to reassure Sabahans that Sabah is an equal partners in the Malaysian Federation? BN has failed to undertake even the basic duty of providing security to Sabahans not just from criminals but also from foreign invaders, until tourists can be killed and kidnapped at will.

I will not address the rise in petrol price today but allude to some press reports that Penang’s investment situation is in a critical situation.(en/bm/cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 9.1.2014.(Attachment with Chart)

I will not address the rise in petrol price today but allude to some press reports that Penang’s investment situation is in a critical situation. This is clearly intended to distract attention from the price hikes by the BN Federal government in sugar, petrol, power tariffs and road toll in contrast to the Penang state government not imposing any increases in water tariff, quit rent and assessment for 2014.

For the record, I wish to refer to a to a Parliamentary written reply from the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to DAP Kuching MP Chong Chien Jen in September last year,

Investigating A Catholic Priest For Sedition Without Investigating The Racist And Extremist Provocateurs Preaching Religious And Racial Hatred on non-Muslims and non-Malays Is A Gross Violation Of The Spirit And Letter Of The Fundamental Right In The Federal Constitution Of Freedom To Profess One’s Religion.

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 8.1.2014.

DAP expresses grave concern and disappointment at the police action of investigating the editor of the Catholic weekly Herald, Father Lawrence Andrew under section 4 the 1948 Sedition Act, for saying that the word Allah will continue to be used in Bahasa Malaysia services in churches in Selangor. Investigating a Catholic priest for sedition without investigating the racist and extremist provocateurs preaching religious and racial hatred on non-Muslims andnon-Malays is a gross violation of the spirit and letter of the fundamental right in the Federal Constitution of freedom to profess one’s religion.

Andrew had even showed an ancient manuscript dated back to 1905, which was written in old Malay and showed reporters the sections containing the word “Allah”. Will this ancient manuscript which has heritage value would also be seized by by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais), which provoked international Continue reading “Investigating A Catholic Priest For Sedition Without Investigating The Racist And Extremist Provocateurs Preaching Religious And Racial Hatred on non-Muslims and non-Malays Is A Gross Violation Of The Spirit And Letter Of The Fundamental Right In The Federal Constitution Of Freedom To Profess One’s Religion.”

Tan Sri Muhyidin Yassin Should Recant His Provocative Support For UMNO Selangor’s Proposed Demonstrations Outside Catholic Churches On Sunday And Sanctioning The Forcible Extension And Compulsion Of Islamic Laws On Non-Muslims.(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 6.1.2014.

Tan Sri Muhyidin Yassin Should Recant His Provocative Support For UMNO Selangor’s Proposed Demonstrations Outside Catholic Churches On Sunday And Sanctioning The Forcible Extension And Compulsion Of Islamic Laws On Non-Muslims.

DAP lauds the unity, harmony and genuine goodwill displayed outside the Sunday mass at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Klang, Selangor yesterday which was attended not only by nearly 1,000 Catholics but few Muslims, including social activist Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, expressing solidarity with the Christians.

Marina pointedly said to forget about the ambitious Visit Malaysia Year, as few would want to visit a Malaysia like this where there is no moderation or is now known as a country which grabs Bibles.

MCA, MIC And Gerakan Are A Disgrace To Their Own Community For Blindly Supporting And Working With Selangor UMNO Which Spouts Racial Hatred Against Non-Malays and Disparages The Religious Rights Of non-Muslims. (e/c)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 5.1.2014.

MCA, MIC and Gerakan are a disgrace to their own community for blindly supporting and working with Selangor UMNO which spouts racial hatred against non-Malays and disparages the religious rights of non-Muslims. Even though Selangor UMNO have called off their threat to hold protests outside Catholic churches during prayers on Sundays, the Selangor UMNO Chairman had threatened mega-demonstrations by Malay groups aligned with UMNO.

For the first time, there will be demonstrations outside churches on Sunday when prayers are conducted. This deliberate heightening of tensions between different faiths by UMNO is a clear attempt to divert attention away from livelihood problems faced by the rakyat caused by BN’s price hikes in sugar, petrol, power and highway tolls causing a chain reaction of price hikes for other essential services. DAP condemns UMNO for playing such racial games and the component parties in MCA, MIC and Gerakan for condoning such acts by continuing to support UMNO.

Only In Malaysia Will Buying A Car With A 55% Discount And Saving Public Monies Be Worthy Of Being Probed By The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) But Not When Buying Above Market Price And Wasting Public Funds.(en/bm/cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 4.1.2014.

Only In Malaysia Will Buying A Car With A 55% Discount And Saving Public Monies Be Worthy Of Being Probed By The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) But Not When Buying Above Market Price And Wasting Public Funds.

I welcome any proposed investigation by the MACC as reported by news portal Fz.com on the Penang state government’s purchase of a Mercedes-Benz S300L for my official usage. Whether MACC will eventually investigate or not, full co-operation will be given to the MACC as the state government is clean and I have nothing to hide.

I will not be asking MACC why no investigation was conducted on BN governments who made similar purchases without the 55% discount. I am certain that MACC will find that the Penang state government is “as clean as a whistle” as the whole transaction of purchasing the Mercedes Benz was handled by the State Financial Officer Dato Mokhtar Mohd Jait, who had abided by proper and legal procedures with valid documentation.

Condemns BN For Trying To Force Islamic Laws On Non-Muslims With Tan Sri Muhyidin Yassin’s Provocative Support For UMNO Selangor’s Proposed Demonstrations Outside Catholic Churches On Sunday To Prevent Non-Muslims From Using The Word “Allah”.(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 3.1.2014.

DAP condemns Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyidin Yassin’s provocative support for UMNO Selangor’s proposal to demonstrate outside Catholic churches during their prayers on Sunday. Muhyidin is fanning the fire of religious hatred by agreeing with Selangor Umno’s threat to demonstrate outside Catholic churches on Sunday unless Herald editor Father Lawrence Andrew retracts his statement and apologises over the use of the word “Allah” by Christians in the state in their Bahasa Malaysia masses.

Never before has a governing political party been sanctioned to demonstrate outside a religious place of worship and our first three Prime Ministers of Malaysia would have reacted with utter horror at such an uncvilised act. Muhyiddin is behaving recklessly for political gain and irresponsible by stating that UMNO Selangor is acting under their own consideration and within their lawful rights by demonstrating outside Catholic churches on Sunday when such hostile acts would damage interfaith relations and destroy the religious harmony assiduously built up in Malaysia by the various communities since Merdeka in 1957.

Why is it okay to demonstrate against Catholic churches but not against price hikes on sugar, petrol, power tariffs and highway tolls imposed by BN? Such demonstrations by a racist anti non-Malay and anti non-Muslim UMNO would irreparably harm the harmonious relations in our multi-racial society which had existed peacefully until UMNO stirred up the Allah controversy.

PEMBELIAN KERETA MERCEDES-BENZ S300L UNTUK YAB. KETUA MENTERI PULAU PINANG(bm/cn)

KENYATAAN AKHBAR OLEH Pegawai Kewangan Negeri Pulau Pinang, Dato’ Haji Mokhtar bin Mohd Jait pada 03.01.2014.

PEMBELIAN KERETA MERCEDES-BENZ S300L UNTUK YAB. KETUA MENTERI PULAU PINANG
