Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Should Not Ask Why Chinese Voters Did Not Support MCA But Whether Even Malay Voters Would Vote For A Party Led By Such A “Famous” Leader Like Chua Soi Lek? (en/bm/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 8.5.2013.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should not ask why Chinese voters did not support MCA but whether even Malay voters would vote for a party led by such a “famous” leader like Chua Soi Lek? By continuing to blame Chinese voters or claim that Chinese voters were misled by DAP to vote against BN, Najib is showing contempt not only for democratic right of freedom of choice but also insulting the intelligence of all Malaysian voters.

The recent general elections saw a Malaysian tsunami causing PR to win the popular vote of 51% for the first time in history. Despite gathering more votes than BN from support by all communities, BN continues to blame the Chinese voters. The Chinese form only 25 per cent of Malaysia’s 29 million population of which less than half have registered to vote.

Of that number, BN polled 5,237,699 votes for the 222 federal seats to Pakatan Rakyat parties’ combined 5,623,984 ballots. The three-party pact of PKR, PAS and the DAP also surpassed BN in the state seats, pulling in 4,879,699 votes to the 13-member coalition’s 4,513,997 ballots.

When the Chinese only form 25% of the total voters but PR gains 51% of the popular vote how can BN pin the blame on the Chinese community? Who then are the remaining 26% of the voters if not Malays, Indians, Kadazans and Ibans? Or are these voters foreign Bangla voters?

Najib and BN should study why even Malay and Indian voters are not willing to vote for MCA. After all why would any decent Malay and Indian voter vote for MCA when it is led by such an infamous leader like Chua Soi Lek. Chua Soi Lek is so desperate that he forgets himself as a great politically liability to betray Malaysians by joining hands with UMNO to play the dangerous racial game of blaming BN’s loss of popular vote on the Chinese community.

Kenyataan media Setiausaha Agung DAP merangkap Ahli Parlimen Bagan, Lim Guan Eng di Kuala Lumpur pada 8 Mei 2013.

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Tidak Patut Bertanya Kenapa Pengundi Cina Tidak Menyokong MCA Malah Sepatutnya Bertanya Kenapa Pengundi Melayu Mahu Mengundi Sebuah Parti Yang Diketuai Pemimpin Yang Begitu Terkenal Seperti Chua Soi Lek?

  1. Guan Eng

The race and religion cards are replayed over and over to which urban Malaysians and, increasingly, even rural cousins are getting tired of hearing.

CSL is finished and so is the MCA from their treacherous betrayal since the days of Tun Tan Siew Sin. My view is that DAP continue to push strategies which do not rely on Federal government aid.

There are many parties to work with for example in financing public housing projects where you could set up Penang’s own ‘HDB’ ala Singapore. Moving Green Tech and other sustainable solutions to improve the environment as well as providing more opportunities for investments.

As a frequent visitor to Singapore, you will know the benefits of a transparent government with strong political will to make things happen.

    But I digress.

The issue of racial polarisation is that of BN’s own fault. It is now technically a Malay Government having successfully removed the MCA and MIC components. Mahathir has engineered this well during his 22 years. If there is any tsunami as pointed out by Najib et al, it is that of BN who has alienated itself from the political realities.

Winning the popular vote does not earn more Parliamentary seats. It is the way by which electoral boundaries which shape the end point. These have been drawn and redrawn many times by BN over decades to create fix deposit states in order to cling on to power.

Can you break it? Time will tell.
