Jade Emperor Festival Or 8th Day Of Chinese New Year Message By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 7.2.2014.

During this year’s Chinese New Year festivities, the regular topic of discussion in family reunion gatherings is how the toxic atmosphere of playing with the fires of racial and religious hatred has paralysed the pursuit of happiness and hastened the brain drain by accelerating the exodus of human talent. Penang will counter UMNO’s dangerous games of playing with the fires of racial and religious hatred with the weapons of social justice, economic prosperity, good governance and clean leadership.

Recent events coupled with the refusal to address the pressing issues of entrenched corruption and cronyism as well as price hikes that threaten the livelihood of ordinary Malaysians, have lent credence to the view that BN has stopped governing because they no longer know how to rule. The PR Penang state government’s success in becoming the first state in Malaysian history to wipe out poverty and becoming the only state not to raise local services such as quit rent, assessment, business license fees and water tariffs has made UMNO desperate.

BN Federal Government Has Only Changed The Music But Not The Words By Freezing Highway Toll Hikes For One Year And Paying RM400 Million Compensation To Toll Concessionaires.(en/cn)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 6.2.2014.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s announcement that Cabinet would not impose any toll hikes for 2014, is an opportunistic political tactic clearly intended to please voters for BN in the Kajang by-election on 23 March 2014. BN federal government has only changed the music but not the words by freezing highway toll hikes for one year by paying RM 400 million in compensation to highway concessionaires.

Despite promising in its 2013 general election manifesto to reduce intra-city toll rates, the BN Federal government sounded out to the public that several tolls are due for a hike this year. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar has even said that those who disagreed with the toll hikes can use “alternative”, non-tolled roads instead when there are no such alternative roads for some routes.

Playing With The Fires Of Racial And Religious Hatred Will Only Paralyse The Pursuit Of Happiness And Hasten The Brain Drain By Accelerating The Exodus Of Human Talent.(en/bm/cn)

DAP Chinese New Year Message By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 3.2.2014.

During this year’s Chinese New Year festivities, the regular topic of discussion in family reunion gatherings is how the toxic atmosphere of playing with the fires of racial and religious hatred has paralysed the pursuit of happiness and hastened the brain drain by accelerating the exodus of human talent. Recent events coupled with the refusal to address the pressing issues of entrenched corruption and cronyism as well as price hikes that threaten the livelihood of ordinary Malaysians have lent credence to the view that BN has stopped governing because they no longer know how to rule.

The violent demonstrations by UMNO supporters, the attempted fire-bomb attack on a Catholic church in Penang and the call by a UMNO division to ban the 200-year old practice of open selling of pork in a 95% non-Muslim area in Penang have raised serious doubts about UMNO‘s true motives and whether UMNO is intent on destroying the very foundations of a nation-state so assiduously built by their founders Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Abdul Razak.

Malaysians Who Add Up To Malaysia’s Unemployment Rate Are Not Lazy, But Lazy BN Policies That Are A Disincentive To Work With Low Pay And Low Productivity Especially For 3D Jobs That Are Difficult, Dirty And Dangerous.(e/c)

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 2.2.2014.

DAP strongly disagrees with Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan who blamed “lazy Malaysians” for adding to the country’s unemployment rate by refusing to take up job opportunities causing the influx of foreign migrant workers. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, the unemployment rate is at 3.4 per cent as at November last year, or 484,600 of the 14.2 million of the country’s total labour force.

Referring to the jobless, Ahmad Maslan said, “They are worse than just lazy. There are around 300,000 of them, who are just sitting and doing nothing”. This attack on the jobless is not only unfair but incorrect as well. BN leaders should realise that it is not lazy Malaysians who add up to Malaysia’s unemployment rate, but lazy BN policies that are a disincentive to work with low pay and low productivity especially for 3D jobs that are Difficult, Dirty And Dangerous.
