Why Still No Arrests For Identififed Assailants Of The Brutal And Barbaric Attack On V Ganabatirao And His Brother V Raidu?

On 30th May 2012, two Indian Rights Action Force (INDRAF 2.0) leaders V Ganabatirao and his brother V Raidu were brutally and barbarically attacked by a group of thugs, believed to be BN supporters, while on their way to attend a funeral in Klang. Raidu has sustained a broken arm and neck bone, while Ganabatirau’s nose was severely injured. With Raidu is still warded at a hospital in Klang, Ganabatirau is upset with police inaction, despite the identities of the perpetrators having been confirmed 36 hours earlier. Why still no arrests against the identified assailants?

DAP severely condemns this vile attack, which is the latest in a recent series of violent harassment against Pakatan Rakyat leaders. In the past few weeks, we have seen a serial procession of violence against PR leaders in Malacca, Pahang, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Perak. Various leaders including Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his daughter Nurul Izzah and even myself have become victims of violent behaviour by thugs and louts.

Whether politically-motivated or not, there is no place for such violence in our peace-loving country. Malaysians are sickened by these episodes and can no longer accept such behaviour. Both victims who are DAP members, have revealed that they were attacked by 3 men who were angry with their success in organising the INDRAF 2 gathering in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. They were warned that should they organise another rally against BN, then they will be attacked with machetes the next time.

Failure by the police to act against such identified assailants will only prove that our country is governed by thugs who have no respect not just for the rule of law but also of democracy.
