The Star Is Nothing More Than Fake News!
MCA Deputy President Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong once again complains he was misquoted by his party-owned newspaper, The Star. This time he says that he never mentioned my name as his possible opponent in his Ayer Hitam parliamentary constituency. If even MCA leaders can claim to be misquoted by The Star, what more DAP leaders like myself who have to resort to court action for defamation to get the truth out? This is clear confirmation that The Star is nothing more than fake news.
Pakatan Harapan faces a more intense battle in the coming general elections, with the abuse of power by BN relying on 3Ms of misusing money, media and machinery of government. BN’s control of the mass media is even more dominating as compared to the 13th General Elections, including even the Chinese news media. For instance those reading Sin Chew Jit Poh outside Penang thought that I did not hold an open house in Penang on the first day of Chinese New Year, even though there was an increased crowd with 30,000 people.
It is up to Sin Chew Jit Poh if they think that the only Malaysian Chinese Chief Minister in Malaysia is not as important to report as MCA or Gerakan Ministers, as this is Sin Chew’s right. However I am unhappy that some Chinese media reporters choose to hound and disturb my family members and Chief Minister’s press team members, whether I had met with a severe accident yesterday. We can identify the political leanings amongst some of the Chinese media, but they should not resort to this extent of fake news.
Are MCA leaders not ashamed that they do not practice what they preach by not contesting in seats with more than 50% Chinese voters?
On Datuk Wee, despite his claims on being misquoted by his own newspaper, he can not deny that MCA’s claims on representing the Chinese community is negated by their leaders refusing to contest in seats with a majority of Chinese voters. Are MCA leaders not ashamed that they do not practice what they preach by not contesting in seats with more than 50% Chinese voters?
For the first time, all the three most important leaders of MCA from President, Deputy President and Secretary-General will be depending on UMNO’s votes to get elected as MP and then to become a Minister.
In Bentong, the parliamentary constituency of the MCA President and Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, the single biggest ethnic bloc of voters are the 46.1% Malay voters, as Chinese voters represent 42.4%, Indians 9.0% and Others 2.5%.
In Ayer Hitam, the parliamentary constituency of MCA Deputy President and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, the largest ethnic group of voters are the 57.6% Malay voters, with the Chinese 38.3%; Indians 3.9% and Others 0.2%.
In Tanjong Malim, the parliamentary constituency of the MCA Secretary-General and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, Datuk Ong Ka Chuan, the largest ethnic group of voters are again the Malays 55.4% with Chinese 25.8%, Indians 13.2% and Orang Asli 5.6%.
In fact, in Malay voters represent the largest ethnic group in six of the seven parliamentary constituencies won by MCA in the 13th General Election.
As DAP Parliamentary Leader and MP for Gelang Patah Lim Kit Siang asks correctly, “Is the MCA representing the Chinese in Barisan Nasional or is it representing UMNO to the Malaysian Chinese? Or is MCA representing all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion?”

马华署理总会长拿督斯里魏家祥再次发表声明，声称他的言论被马华自家所拥有的《星报》错误引述。这一次，他说他谈及亚依淡国会议席的可能对手时，从来没有提到我的名字。如果连马华领袖都声称其言论被《星报》所错误引述，那么身为行动党领袖如我等，不就不得不寻求法律途径，起诉对方诽谤来找出真相？这岂不证明了，《星报》无非是一团假新闻吗？
希盟在即将来临的大选面对更激烈的竞争，包括国阵滥用他们所持有的3M武器，即金钱、媒体及政府机构的资源。比起第13届全国大选，如今国阵对媒体的操控变本加厉，甚至延及中文媒体。例如，槟州以外的《星洲日报》读者甚至以为我今年大年初一没有主办新春门户开放活动 ，与民众同庆华人新年，但事实上，今年前来拜年的人数，比去年更多，高达近3万人次。
如果《星洲日报》认为马来西亚唯一一位华人首长的新闻，比不上马华或民政党的部长的新闻更重要，那就悉听尊便。不过，对于一些中文媒体记者，昨日选择打扰我的家人及新闻团队，只为了证明我是否发生严重交通意外一事，让我感到遗憾。由此可见中文媒体界中一小部分人士的政治倾向，但是他们不应该诉诸于假新闻到这个程度。
难道马华领袖讲一套做一套，不敢在华裔选民超过50%的地区上阵，一点也不会感到惭愧吗？
就魏家祥声称遭自家媒体错误引述其言论一事，他无法否认的一个真相是，马华一方面声称他们代表华社，但马华一众领袖却不敢在华裔选民居多的选区上阵，言论与行为自相矛盾。难道马华领袖讲一套做一套，不敢在华裔选民超过50%的地区上阵，一点也不会感到惭愧吗？
有史以来第一次，马华最高职位的三个领袖，即总会长、署理总会长及总秘书，都要靠巫统的选票来中选为国会议员，以便当上部长职位。
在属于马华总会长兼交通部长拿督斯里廖中莱的国会选区的文冬，马来选民是最大的族群，占46.1 %；华裔选民占了42.4 %，印裔 9.0% 及其他 2.5%。
马华署理总会长兼首相署部长魏家祥的亚依淡国会选区，马来族群也是占了最大百分比的选民，共57.6 %；华裔选民为 38.3 % ，印裔选民为3.9% 及其他种族 0.2%。
至于马华总秘书、第二国际贸易及工业部部长拿督斯里黄家泉位于丹绒马林的国会选区，马来选民也是最大族群，占了 55.4%，华裔选民25.8 %，印裔 13.2% 及原住民 5.6%。
实际上，在第13届大选，马来选民占多数的选区，占了马华所赢得7个国会议席中的6个国会议席。
诚如行动党国会领袖兼振林山国会议员林吉祥所提问般，“到底马华代表的，是国阵里的华裔，还是为马来西亚华裔代表巫统？或者是马华不分种族、宗教，代表所有的马来西亚人？”
