The Negative Japanese Encephalitis (JE) Test Results Of 181 Blood Samples From 20 Pig Farms In Kampung Selamat, Seberang Perai Should Allow The 3 JE Cases In Penang To Be Treated As A Disease And Health Issue Not As A Racial Issue By The BN-Controlled Media Or Be Politicised By BN.
The Penang state government understands the relief felt by public health workers over the results of the Veterinary Services Department yesterday that the 181 blood samples taken from 20 piggeries in the vicinity of Kampung Selamat in Seberang Prai, Penang tested negative for Japanese Encephalitis (JE). The negative JE test results of 181 blood samples from 20 pig farms in Kampung Selamat, Seberang Perai should allow the 3 JE Cases in Penang to be treated as a disease and health issue, not as a racial issue by the BN-controlled media or be politicised by BN.
The Penang state government wishes to strongly condemn the irresponsible BN mainstream mass media for highlighting the JE cases in Penang by racialising it before the test results were announced but not prominently publishing the negative test results for pig farms in Kampung Selamat announced by the Veterinary Department. BN racist politicians from UMNO also politicized it by making irresponsible and baseless statements to fan the issue with racial and religious sentiments. DAP is shocked at the decision by the central Chinese government to ban students and civil servants in the Muslim Xinjiang region from taking part in traditional fasting during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. According to official statements on the websites of schools, government agencies and local party organisations, the ban was purportedly aimed at “ protecting students’ wellbeing and preventing use of schools and government offices to promote religion.” Meanwhile, state-run newspapers have also run editorials warning about the health dangers of fasting.
DAP expresses deep regret at such a draconian ruling that goes against the very essence of human rights and freedom of religion. The oppression and persecution of religious minorities cannot be justified, no matter what the circumstances. We call upon the Chinese government to immediately rescind the directive and to allow Muslim students, party members and civil servants to observe the Ramadan fast.

PENANG,: The Penang State Government is seeking intervention from the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) to kick-off inter-state talks regarding the proposed Sungai Perak Raw Water Transfer Scheme (SPRWTS).
Penang Chief Minister Y.A.B. Tuan Lim Guan Eng said that there was a “clear gap” between Perak’s intent and Penang’s need with regard to inter-state water cooperation.
“As a water-stressed state, Penang’s primary challenge is raw water sufficiency. In a letter dated on 16th December 2013, the Office of the State Secretary of Perak has stated that Perak is only interested in selling treated water to Penang, and not raw water,” he said.

Destroying Academic Freedom Will Also Stifle Academic Excellence Where Malaysian Universities Continue To Deteriorate, Exemplified By The Fact That No Single Local University Managed To Enter The Top 100 Time Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2014.
In a further blow to academic freedom in Malaysia, Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Redzuan Othman was forcibly removed as the head of University Malaya’s Centre for Democracy and Elections (UMCEDEL), while his tenure as the dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences in the university was not removed. Redzuan’s removal is a repeat of the removal of academics punished for speaking the truth.
