Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 25.7.2013.
Despite falling far short of its 4,000 vote majority target, DAP congratulates UMNO for its victory in Kuala Besut state by-election yesterday. BN candidate Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abdul Rahman defeated PAS’ Azlan Yusof to retain Kuala Besut for BN with a 2,592 votes of majority, a 158 vote improvement over the 13thGeneral Elections.
The ruling government always have a clear advantage during by-elections, which allow them to concentrate their resources fully. BN was expected to win with a larger majority in this by-election, following a slew of electoral pledges that carry a total price tag of RM 477 million, By increasing its majority by 158 votes despite offering nearly half a billion ringgit in projects, the results show that nothing has really changed between the recent general elections and this by-election.
For this reason Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak should go back on his earlier promise to seek national reconciliation after the general election so that all Malaysians can be united based on common principles of fighting crime and corruption, upholding freedom, integrity, democracy and justice.

民主行动党兼峇眼国会议员林冠英于2013年7月25日在吉隆坡发表的文告。
民主行动党还是要恭贺巫统在昨日的瓜拉勿述补选取得胜利，虽然结果远不如其4000张多数票的目标。国阵候选人东姑再翰击败伊斯兰党候选人阿兹兰，替国阵以2592张多数票保住瓜拉勿述，比第13届大选进步158张票。
执政党通常在补选当中占尽优势，因为可以让他们全力集中资源在补选当中。国阵早已经预料到在这场补选当中能以大票数取胜，因为一场补选就已经耗费了4亿7700万令吉。即使花了近半亿令吉，却只增加158票，这补选结果根本与大选的情况并无二致。
有鉴于此，首相拿督斯里纳吉理应回归他之前在大选之后的承诺，寻求全民和解，好让全体马来西亚人能在打击罪案、贪污、秉持自由、廉洁、民主与公义的原则下，团结一致。
