Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur on 6.1.2013.
DAP accepts the resignation of DAP returning officer Pooi Weng Keong to take full responsibility for the computer glitch that resulted in the wrong results to be announced for the party elections of the Central Executive Committee(CEC) at the DAP National Congress on 15-16 December 2012. Even though this computer glitch caused a wrong posting, where Candidate No. 31 to 38 and No. 61 to 68 had exactly the same number of votes, Pooi as Returning Officer must bear responsibility. This error had caused Sdr Vincent Wu to be announced as being elected into the CEC when he was not, and Sdr Zairil Khir Johari should have been properly elected into the final 20th position.

Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur on 2.1.2013.
While the DAP welcomes the efforts of the Internal Revenue Board (IRB) to increase tax revenue through productivity gains and enhancing tax compliance, this should not result in the carrying out of ‘tax terrorism’ against Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), including going after them for back taxes dating from more than 6 years ago.
In the interests of rule of law, any increase in tax collections should not come at the expense of unfair persecution of certain sectors only whilst letting off the politically connected ones. The IRB has succeeded in increasing income tax collections from companies from RM 36.3 billion in 2010 to RM 46.9 billion in 2011, an increase of 29% as well as an increase from personal income taxes from RM17.8b in 2010 to RM 20.2 billion in 2011, representing a 13.5% increase. Company income tax is projected to increase by another 15.5% to RM 54.1 billion in 2012 while personal income taxes are projected to increase by 11.1% to RM 22.4 billion during the same time period.

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar George Town On 2.1.2013.
The New Straits Times(NST) have once again shown itself not only to be a mouthpiece of BN employed principally to spread lies but also a racist organisation that spews racial hatred against PR leaders with distorted news. Both the NST and Utusan Malaysia are owned by UMNO and the NST is an English carbon copy of the virulent racist Utusan Malaysia. Utusan Malaysia openly advocates the celebration of thousands of non-Malays murdered during the May 13 racial riots in 1969 as a sacred day.
In any country, Utusan Malaysia would be punished for inciting murder but not in 1Malayia, demonstrating that 1Malaysia is a big propaganda tool to deceive voters. So vitriolic are NST and Utusan Malaysia’s lies and so intense their racial hatred, that I dare not send them written press statements to both these papers, much less give verbal answers at press conferences in their presence.

Penang 2013 New Year Message By Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng In Komtar George Town On 1.1.2013.
Penang will see 2013 as the end of poverty and continue the successes of fighting corruption so that there are no 3rd class economic citizens. Over the last 5 years the PR leadership in Penang has worked hard to reduce income inequality and introduced CAT governance of competency, accountability and transparency to accumulate record budget surpluses to implement social programmes, carry out traffic infrastructure works and build affordable housing.
Under PR’s Agenda Economic Sosial(AES) or Social Economic Agenda, Penang will be the first state in Malaysia to wipe out poverty by ensuring every household/family has an income of at least RM770 per month. The poverty line is RM763 per month for every household/family in Peninsular Malaysia.
