Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 10.5.2013

DAP’s urgent priority of polls reform that respects the “one-man, one-vote,one-value” principle will not be undermined by BN’s underhand tactics to try to split up PR by inviting DAP to join BN as DAP’s struggle is for principles not positions, for people-centric policies and not personal interests. Clearly BN’s latest tactics is designed to split up the unity within PR.

DAP has no interest in joining BN for posts because if we had wanted to, we could have done so during the last 40 years. However DAP refused to join BN and held steadfastly to our ideals, principles and policies of a fairer, freer and democratic Malaysia. DAP leaders had not only forgone the perks and privileges of high office, but sacrificed their personal liberties by being jailed and detained.

If DAP leaders can hold firm and steadfast when we lost in general elections, there is no doubt that DAP can do the same now when we have won the highest number of seats in our history of 38 Parliamentary and 107 state seats. This suggestion of DAP joining BN made by one MCA MP and one racist ex-UMNO Minister is clearly designed to undermine PR’s campaign to seek polls reform and split up the unity within PR.

The urgency of polls reform is highlighted by the travesty of justice of PR winning the popular vote in the 13th General Elections but yet losing government to BN. How can BN win power in Perak when PR won 55% of the popular vote? Similarly how can BN continue to be the Federal government when PR won 51% of the popular vote, an increase of 3% popular vote that allowed PR to gain only 7 parliamentary seats from 82 to 89.

Such injustice and underhanded tactics is most pronounced in Perak when PR won 52% of the popular vote in 2008 general elections and managed to win power with 31 state seats against 28 for BN. During this general elections, PR won even more popular votes in Perak this time with 55% and yet won only 28 state seats against BN’s 31. In both the Federal and Perak governments, we have a minority BN government or a minority Prime Minister and minority Perak Menteri Besar heading the administration.

Any talks of co-operation must be done through PR and not through individual parties. PR is willing to co-operate with BN to implement polls reform to reflect the unhappiness of the majority of Malaysians who voted for change and yet discover that despite winning the popular vote, they can not throw out BN.

Before this call to DAP to join BN, there have also been similar calls to PAS to join BN with UMNO for a unity government. All this is done when UMNO is demonizing both DAP and the Chinese community for daring to oppose and vote against BN. Malaysians are no longer stupid and will not allow BN to racialize national issues.

Instead every matter should be discussed and decided on merits that is not race-based but needs based. This is the new paradigm shift of this general elections – that the people are sick and tired of race-based and extremist politics as well as a clear preference for people-centric policies that makes a difference to the lives of ordinary Malaysians.

Let us prove that the power of the people is more powerful than those people in power!

Kenyataan Media oleh Setiausaha Agung DAP merangkap Ahli Parlimen Bagan, Lim Guan Eng di Kuala Lumpur pada 10 Mei 2013.

Tuntutan Reformasi Pilihanraya DAP Yang Menghormati Prinsip ‘Satu Orang, Satu Undi, Satu Nilai’ Tidak Akan Dilemahkan Dengan Taktik Kotor BN Untuk Cuba Memecahbelahkan Pakatan Rakyat Dengan Menjemput DAP Menyertai BN Kerana Perjuangan DAP Adalah Demi Prinsip Bukan Jawatan, Demi Polisi Mesra Rakyat Dan Bukan Kepentingan Peribadi.

  1. Guan Eng

We have all read, rallied, talked, argued, shared, denounced, angered, shook heads, gathered, commiserated and cried about the state of our country the past week.

It is now time to think a little more about the wider implications behind the plots and sub-plots. Do you follow popular postings or do you really sit and think deeply through the apparent?

You see, it’s all about getting accession for some one to be the future PM. But first, the puppet master will need to move the pawns to create distractions through smoke and mirrors to instigate actions likely to avert discovery of a deeper strategy. Yes, pawns = YOU. Then, he will move the Bishops and Knights to strike those within his camp but by taking pieces from the Opposition’s board.

    Bizzare? Absolutely.

So, the knives are out when charges of a Chinese tsunami, 2Rs etc are brought out effectively heightening fear not within BN but UMNO. The Opposition is the new bogeyman – something that lurks in the UMNO closet and comes out to strangle Malay rights in the night. Folks, you know that is also a falsehood. Given NEP and all the benefits, one would hardly imagine that Malay rights are abrogated. Indeed, the word is improved and enhanced through the years. So, what is the real reason?

It is to kill off Najib for his ‘poor’ performance and inclusion policies under 1BRM – which in actual fact was never going to happen because the wider game is to install a new PM determined by the puppet master who will lead UMNO and thus reinstate ‘Malay supremacy’ because of his failure to prevent a racial tsunami, a ‘2 party’ state and to achieve a 2/3 majority. All these ‘reasons’ will be sufficient to hang him.

You may believe this up to this point but you’d be wrong. The latter ‘reason’ is also a falsehood because the reality is that the urban, and I suspect even some rural, Malays now want change but are denied this from changes in the electoral boundaries as shown by fixed deposit States of Sabah and Sarawak which holds some 25% of votes that effectively determines the fate of the country. Never, in the history of our country have we seen such an incredible force of brotherhood with Malaysians of all races, creed and religion coming together to seek one thing, CHANGE.

So, what is this secret purpose you may ask? Well, it is to pave the way for a successor to the puppet master. A young man who has yet to be tested but given time, will ascend to the throne.

By the calculations, you’d imagine that this will not happen within the next election but likely sometime between PRU14 and PRU15. The question then is whether Puppet Master Baru will be able to handle a government that is so corrupt and ridden with sub-masters playing the field in this dangerous game of thrones.

Then, who controls who? More importantly, who will fiscally bleed and suffer pain to see another two generations go down the tube?

The very supporters of the new Puppet Master may very well yield the same castration instruments. Ultimately, the losers is you and I or rather our children’s children irrespective of the 2Rs – race and religion – but that of M&P ie money and power.

One thing for sure is that the new ‘King’ will inherit a throne to rule over a bankrupt country without a moral back bone. So if you were to continue with rhetoric coffee shop talk and more postings on FB and other media, take a moment to reflect the deep reasons for the various political chess moves.

When you have digested it, I hope it is not too late then to realise that pawns can be changed for powerful pieces to determine the balance of power and thus the future of your family’s generations to come.

    Joining the Devil? Never!
