American Investment Continues To Flow Unabated Into Penang<\/strong><\/p>\n

The recent public announcement on the New York Stock Exchanged-listed Boston Scientific Corp commencing operations at its first Asian factory in Penang in Batu Kawan Industrial Park is a strong vote of confidence in Penang as a location of choice for investment. This is the 19th global manufacturing facility for the medical device giant, and its first in Asia.<\/p>\n

According to its vice-president and general manager of manufacturing and distribution for Malaysia Dave Mitchell, the company has injected \u201chundreds of million of ringgit\u201d into the new plant, with plans to add as many as 400 new local jobs over two years. He added \u201cthe company ultimately selected the Penang site for its high-skilled workforce, infrastructure to support manufacturing and business friendliness\u201d.<\/p>\n

An official opening ceremony is scheduled to take place in February 2018. Boston Scientific\u2019s new manufacturing plant spans 375,000 sq ft over a 20-acre (8.1ha) parcel. The facility will begin producing two of the company\u2019s state-of-the-art medical products that are used in cardiovascular and endoscopy this year. Boston Scientific intends to expand its production to include urology products next year. Boston Scientific has more than 13,000 products in its global portfolio. Presently, Boston Scientific supplies medical technologies to more than 100 countries, out of which 15 are in Asia.<\/p>\n

For the year ended Dec 31, 2016 (FY16), Boston Scientific achieved a revenue of US$8.39 billion, a 12% growth from the previous year. The company is expecting revenue for FY17 to be in a range of US$8.675 billion to US$8.875 billion.<\/p>\n

This investment by a US company besides the recent expansion of UST Global and upcoming Broadcom Global Distribution Warehouse opening proves untrue allegations by certain irresponsible parties that American investment is not coming to Penang.<\/p>\n

Even Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) highlighted Boston Scientific\u2019s investment in Penang in a full page advertisement in the August 26th \u2013 September 1st issue of \u201cThe Economist\u201d. MIDA stated that Boston Scientific will be producing structural heart components, medical optical fibres and endoscopy biopsy devices. \u201cMalaysia is an ideal geographic location with an infrastructure that is conducive for business, particularly in the growing medical device sector,\u201d says Ed Mackey, an executive vice-president at Boston Scientific.

Pelaburan Amerika Syarikat kian rancak memasuki pasaran Pulau Pinang<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pengumuman mengenai bermulanya operasi kilang pertama rantau Asia milik syarikat Boston Scientific Corp yang tersenarai dalam Bursa Saham New York, di Taman Perindustrian Batu Kawan, Pulau Pinang adalah isyarat keyakinan yang kuat buat negeri ini sebagai lokasi pilihan untuk pelaburan. Ini adalah fasiliti pengilangan antarabangsa yang ke-19 untuk syarikat gergasi peralatan perubatan ini, dan yang pertama baginya di rantau Asia.<\/p>\n

Menurut Naib Presiden dan Pengurus Besar Pengilangan dan Pengedaran Malaysia, Dave Mitchell, syarikatnya telah menyuntik dana sebanyak \u201cratusan juta ringgit\u201d bagi kilang baru tersebut, dengan rancangan untuk menambah sebanyak 400 peluang pekerjaan tempatan baru dalam tempoh dua tahun. Beliau menambah bahawa \u201csyarikat tersebut memilih tapak di Pulau Pinang kerana faktor tenaga kerja yang berkemahiran tinggi, infrastruktur untuk menyokong bidang pembuatan dan ia mesra perniagaan\u201d.<\/p>\n

Suatu majlis pembukaan rasmi dijadualkan berlangsung pada Februari 2018. Kilang pembuatan baru Boston Scientific ini adalah seluas 375,000 kaki persegi iaitu lebih kurang 20 ekar (8.1 hektar). Kemudahan itu akan mula menghasilkan dua produk perubatan yang akan digunakan dalam sektor kardiovaskular dan endoskopi pada tahun ini. Boston Scientific bercadang untuk memperluaskan pengeluarannya bagi memasuki sektor produk urologi pada tahun hadapan. Boston Scientific mempunyai lebih daripada 13,000 produk dalam portfolio globalnya. Pada masa ini, Boston Scientific membekalkan teknologi perubatan ke lebih daripada 100 buah negara, meliputi lebih 15 negara di Asia.<\/p>\n

Bagi tahun berakhir 31 Disember 2016, (FY16), Boston Scientific mencapai pendapatan sebanyak US$8.39 bilion, peningkatan sebanyak 12% berbanding tahun sebelumnya. Syarikat tersebut mengharapkan pendapatan untuk FY17 berada dalam lingkungan US$8.675 hingga US$8.875 bilion.<\/p>\n

Pelaburan oleh sebuah syarikat Amerika, di samping peluasan kilang UST Global dan pelancaran Broadcom Global Distribution Warehouse tidak lama lagi membuktikan tuduhan palsu oleh pihak tertentu yang tidak bertanggungjawab kononnya pelaburan Amerika Syarikat tidak datang ke Pulau Pinang.<\/p>\n

Malah Lembaga Pembangunan Pelaburan Malaysia (MIDA) telah memfokuskan pelaburan Boston Scientific di Pulau Pinang pada satu halaman penuh dalam iklan yang disiarkan dalam \u201cThe Economist\u201d keluaran 26 Ogos-1 September. MIDA turut menyatakan bahawa Boston Scientific akan menghasilkan komponen struktur jantung, fiber optik perubatan dan peralatan peranti biopsi. \u201cMalaysia adalah lokasi geografi yang ideal dengan infrastruktur yang kondusif untuk perniagaan, terutama dalam sektor peranti perubatan yang semakin berkembang,\u201d kata Ed Mackey, Naib Presiden Eksekutif di Boston Scientific.<\/p>\n
