Extremist UMNO supporters and Perkasa leaders\u2019 unruly and uncivilised behaviour during demonstrations against the Penang state government in Komtar and the Perak DAP state headquarters in Ipoh, are masquerading as defenders of Islam by not daring to demonstrate against MCA, which demanded the repeal of the Administration of the Religion of Islam(State of Penang) Enactment 2004. Such proposed repeal by MCA would effectively mean also the abolition of the Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Pulau Pinang, a gross insult and interference in Islamic affairs. <\/p>\n
Even extremist UMNO supporters and Perkasa leaders have the right to demonstrate, but must be done peacefully, even if they oppose the legally valid and factually correct position of the Penang state government, that fatwas are only applicable on Muslims and not on non-Muslims. Their unruly and uncivilised behaviour yesterday physically harrassed the <\/p>\n
courageous DAP State Assemblyman for Tebing Tinggi Ong Boon Piow in Ipoh yesterday and using uncouth language of \u201cbabi hutan\u201d against me must be condemned as unacceptable because it is irrational, un-Malaysian and un-Malay. <\/p>\n
Would the police or the Attorney-General take any action against such harassment against an Assemblyman and uncouth language against a Chief Minister as they have taken against those who insulted the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak? Such double-standards practiced by the BN Federal government is not new but even the extremists in UMNO and Perkasa ape such hypocritic behaviour. <\/p>\n
By not daring to demonstrate against MCA for committing the greater \u201csin\u201d of wanting to repeal the Enactment and by implication Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Pulau Pinang as compared to demonstrating against the Penang state government\u2019s consistent stand that fatwas can not be forcibly imposed on non-Muslims, Perkasa and extremist UMNO members are clearly working together with MCA to stir up racial and religious sentiments for BN\u2019s political gain. <\/p>\n
Unfortunately BN-controlled newspapers have now even influenced some non-BN controlled newspapers by refusing to highlight MCA\u2019s outrageous demand that sparked off the present controversy, that is to repeal the Administration of the Religion of Islam(State of Penang) Enactment 2004. UMNO\u2019s silence on MCA\u2019s demand to repeal the Enactment is matched by MCA\u2019s silence on UMNO\u2019s contention that fatwas are applicable on non-Muslims. <\/p>\n
Both MCA and UMNO must bear full responsibility for their devious political motivations that they will benefit politically from such lies, hypocrisy and double-standards, without caring how such irresponsible tactics impair national unity and undermine religious harmony.<\/p>\n
