August 17th\u2019s PAS central leadership meeting has often been cited as the decisive date for the fate and future of Pakatan Rakyat that comprises PAS, DAP and PKR. If PAS refuses to endorse a change of the Selangor Menteri Besar, by replacing Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim with PKR\u2019s choice of PKR President Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, this will immediately lead to a break-up and end of PR both in Selangor and nationally.<\/p>\n
However PAS can no longer wait until 17 August following the statement by Deputy UMNO President Tan Sri Muhyidin Yassin, that UMNO\u2019s 12 Assemblymen will give full and unconditional support to Khalid to continue as Menteri Besar. Instead PAS has to immediately state whether they support UMNO\u2019s position in giving unconditional support to Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim to continue as Selangor Menteri Besar.<\/p>\n

UMNO\u2019s 12 Assemblymen does not constitute a majority in the 56 person Selangor State Assembly. Only with PAS\u2019 15 ADUNs together with Tan Sri Khalid himelf, do we have a political stalemate of pro-Tan Sri Khalid and anti-Tan Sri Khalid supporters each having 28 Aseemblypersons.<\/p>\n
Any delay in making this declaration is unacceptable because it does not measure up to responsibility of the mandate of Selangor voters who returned 15 PAS ADUNs in the 2013 general elections. Can PAS 15 ADUNs say that they are together or not with UMNO in supporting Tan Sri Khalid as Selangor Menteri Besar?<\/p>\n
If PAS says that they are not together with UMNO, this will help to clarify that PAS agrees with replacing Khalid as Selangor Menteri Besar but wishes to wait until 17 August 2014 to decide whether to endorse PKR\u2019s choice of replacement. Failure by PAS to provide clarity will only further erode PR popular support and damage voters\u2019 confidence not only in Selangor but also nationally.<\/p>\n
