A return to people\u2019s power by fresh democratic general election for Terengganu is DAP\u2019s solution to the Terengganu constitutional crisis brought about by the resignation of three UMNO State Assemblymen leading to an UMNO Minority state government. This was stated by DAP leaders, including Geylang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang, who had issued a press statement yesterday.<\/p>\n

Certain press reports highlighting Kit Siang\u2019s call for the newly-minted Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman to hand over the government to PAS is incorrect. Kit Siang had only mentioned this as one of the 3 possible scenarios, before stressing that fresh democratic general election by the people of Terengganu would be the best way out to resolve who has the mandate of the people to rule Terengganu.<\/p>\n

The resignations by the 3 UMNO Terengganu ADUNs leaves BN as a minority government with 14 seats in the assembly, against Pakatan Rakyat’s 15 in the 32-seat assembly. To resolve this impasse, the DAP had proposed fresh state elections.<\/p>\n

However, Datuk A. Kadir Jasin, former group chief editor of The News Straits Times, even suggested a solution of the ongoing Terengganu crisis, saying that the three Umno assemblymen turned independent candidates could change their minds if the \u201cprice is right\u201d because trustworthy politicians don’t exist anymore. Kadir Jasin\u2019s \u201cprice is right\u201d by untrustworthy politicians\u2019 prediction is likely to be proven correct as the 3 rebel UMNO Assemblymen is said to be changing their minds and returning back to UMNO.<\/p>\n

What is unprincipled, dishonest and self-contradictory is the comment by MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai today that the 3 rebel UMNO State assemblymen in Terengganu should give top priority to the interests of the people and ensure the state Government continue. Why then did MCA not say the same when 3 PR ADUNs crossed over to support BN resulting in a change of state government in Perak, but instead supported the unconstitutional takeover by BN of Perak state government in 2009?<\/p>\n

Beberapa laporan akhbar tentang kononnya seruan Kit Siang kepada Menteri Besar Terengganu yang baru, Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman supaya menyerahkan pentadbiran kerajaan kepada PAS adalah tidak tepat. Kit Siang sekadar menyatakan bahawa ini hanyalah satu daripada tiga kebarangkalian, sebelum menegaskan bahawa jalan terbaik ialah dengan mengadakan pilihanraya semula untuk rakyat Terengganu demi menyelesaikan persoalan siapa yang harus mendapat mandat rakyat.<\/p>\n

Perletakan jawatan tiga ADUN UMNO Terengganu menjadikan BN sebuah kerajaan minoriti dengan 14 kerusi di Dewan Undangan Negeri, berbanding 15 ADUN Pakatan Rakyat di dewan yang dianggotai 32 orang ADUN. Untuk menyelesaikan kemelut ini. DAP mencadangkan supaya diadakan pilihanraya.<\/p>\n

Bagaimana pun, Datuk A. Kadir Jasin (gambar), bekas ketua pengarang kumpulan The New Straits Times, turut mencadangkan penyelesaian terhadap krisis Terengganu, dengan mengatakan bahawa ketiga-tiga ADUN UMNO yang menjadi ADUN bebas itu mungkin mengubah fikiran mereka jika kena dengan harganya; kerana ahli politik yang amanah tidak lagi wujud. Ramalan \u2018kena dengan harga\u2019 Kadir Jasin itu bakal terbukti benar memandangkan tiga ADUN UMNO tersebut dikhabarkan sedang mengubah fikiran masing-masing dan ingin kembali kepada UMNO.<\/p>\n

Namun apa yang lebih tidak berprinsip, tidak jujur, dan bercanggah ialah komen daripada presiden MCA Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai pada hari ini bahawa tiga orang ADUN yang keluar UMNO Terengganu itu mesti memberikan keutamaan kepada kepentingan rakyat dan memastikan kerajaan negeri kekal berterusan. Oleh itu kenapa MCA tidak menyebut perkara serupa apabila tiga orang ADUN Pakatan Rakyat melompat menyertai BN dan mengakibatkan perubahan pentadbiran di negeri Perak pada tahun 2009, tetapi sebaliknya menyokong rampasan kuasa BN terhadap kerajaan Perak yang bercanggah dengan perlembagaan itu?<\/p>\n
