For 40-years, Sdr Karpal dedicated his life to fighting for justice.<\/p>\n<p>With his passing, the DAP has lost an upstanding and outstanding leader, the nation lost a brilliant legal mind and the rakyat a fearless &#8220;tiger&#8221; with an indomitable spirit who stood up for the poor, weak defenceless and dispossesed.<\/p>\n<p>Sdr Karpal was detained without trial for 15 months in Operasi Lallang under the draconian Internal Security Act (ISA) in 1987. I had the honour of spending my time in the same detention dormitory with him in Kamunting Detention Camp and he suffered from severe spinal back pains but refused to yield. Together with his close comrade, Sdr Lim Kit Siang, he faced down then Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.<br \/>\nKarpal suffered an unfortunate accident in 2005 which paralysed him waist-down. <\/p>\n<p>However his indomitable spirit not only helped him overcame this paralysis but allowed him to conti nue his cause for DAP for a better Malaysia. Sdr Karpal became the first disabled person to be elected twice to Parliament with huge majorities.<br \/>\nSdr Karpal has only just been convicted under the Sedition Act last month and is still in the midst of appealing his case.  However, none of these incarceration and obstacles could make him yield in the struggle for a Malaysian Malaysia regardless of race and religion.<\/p>\n<p>His departure will not only leave an immense void not only in his family&#8217;s lives, but also in those of all Malaysians whose lives have been inspired by his principled cause.<br \/>\nTo Sdr Karpal\u2019s family, the DAP shares your grief in this time of bereavement with deepest sympathies and condolences.<\/p>\n<p>In respect and honour of the memory of Sdr Karpal, the DAP shall postpone all party events and functions nationwide to a date after the funeral.  All DAP offices shall also fly our flags at half-mast for a week to mourn for our great loss.<\/p>\n<p>DAP shall establish a National Funeral Committee headed by DAP Acting National Chairman, Sdr Tan Kok Wai at the national level, while DAP Penang Chairman Sdr Chow Kon Yeow shall lead the Penang State Funeral Committee. Both Sdr Tan and Sdr Chow shall announce the members and the details of the funeral arrangements later consulting with family members.<\/p>\n<p>The wake will be held at Sdr Karpal Singh\u2019s home in 144A Jalan Utama, Penang from 3pm today. Karpal Singh akan selama-lamanya dikenang sebagai pahlawan Malaysia yang berjuang teguh demi keadilan, integriti, dan kebebasan tanpa gentar atau ragu<\/p>\n<p>Pagi ini, rakyat Malaysia meratapi pemergian pemimpin kebangsaan DAP dan Ahli Parlimen Bukit Gelugor, Sdr Karpal Singh.<\/p>\n<p>Karpal adalah Ahli Parlimen Bukit Gelugor dan Jelutong selama 8 penggal, selain pernah menjadi Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri di Kedah dan Pulau Pinang untuk empat penggal, bermula pada tahun 1974. Selama 40 tahun, Karpal telah mengabdikan dirinya kepada perjuangan menegakkan keadilan.<\/p>\n<p>Dengan pemergian beliau, DAP hilang seorang pemimpin yang berani dan luar biasa, negara hilang seorang ahli perundangan yang pintar, manakala rakyat pula hilang \u201charimau\u201d yang gagah membela nasib golongan miskin, kurang berkemampuan dan terpinggir.<\/p>\n<p>Karpal pernah ditahan tanpa bicara selama 15 bulan dalam Operasi Lalang, di bawah Akta Keselamatan Dalam Negeri (ISA), pada tahun 1987. Saya bertuah kerana sempat meluangkan masa dalam tahanan bersama beliau di Kem Tahanan Kamunting. Ketika itu beliau mengalami sakit belakang yang teruk, namun beliau enggan mengalah. Bersama rakan seperjuangan yang akrab dengan beliau, sdr. Lim Kit Siang, Karpal berdepan dengan Perdana Menteri ketika itu, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.<\/p>\n<p>Karpal ditimpa kemalangan pada tahun 2005, menyebabkan beliau lumpuh dari bahagian pinggang ke kaki. Bagaimanapun, dengan semangat tidak kenal menyerah, beliau mengatasi kelumpuhan dan meneruskan perjuangan dalam DAP untuk membentuk Malaysia yang lebih baik. Sdr. Karpal menjadi orang kurang upaya pertama memenangi kerusi parlimen sebanyak dua kali dengan beza undi yang besar.<\/p>\n<p>Sdr. Karpal baru saja didapati bersalah di bawah Akta Hasutan bulan lalu dan beliau sedang membuat rayuan untuk kes itu. Bagaimanapun, tiada penindasan mampu membuatkan Karpal lari daripada perjuangan membentuk negara Malaysia untuk bangsa Malaysia tanpa mengira kaum dan agama.<\/p>\n<p>Pemergian Karpal meninggalkan ruang kosong yang besar dalam kehidupan keluarganya dan juga semua warga Malaysia yang kehidupan mereka diinspirasikan oleh perjuangannya yang berprinsip.<\/p>\n<p>Buat keluarga Karpal, DAP berkongsi kesedihan dengan pemergian beliau dan menyampaikan rasa simpati serta ucapan takziah tidak terhingga.<\/p>\n<p>Sebagai penghormatan buat sdr. Karpal dan untuk mengenang beliau, DAP menangguhkan semua acara dan majlis parti di seluruh negara sehingga ke suatu tempoh selepas pengkebumian. Semua pejabat DAP di seluruh negara juga diminta untuk mengibarkan bendera separuh tiang selama seminggu sebagai mengenang pemergian tokoh besar kita.<\/p>\n<p>DAP akan membentuk Jawatankuasa Pengkebumian Kebangsaan diketuai oleh Pemangku Pengerusi DAP Kebangsaan Tan Kok Wai, manakala Pengerusi DAP Pulau Pinang sdr. Chow Kon Yeow pula akan mengepalai Jawatankuasa Pengkebumian di peringkat negeri Pulau Pinang. Kedua-dua mereka akan mengumumkan perincian tentang ahli jawatankuasa serta aturcara pengkebumian nanti setelah berunding dengan anggota keluarga Karpal.<\/p>\n<p>Penghormatan terhadap jenazah akan dimulakan pada jam 3 petang ini di rumah sdr. Karpal Singh di 144A Jalan Utama, Pulau Pinang. Jenazah akan diarak pada jam 11 pagi, Ahad, 20 April, ke Batu Gantong Crematorium, Pulau Pinang.  <\/p>\n<p>LIM GUAN ENG<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;Mandarin Version &#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>\u6c11\u4e3b\u884c\u52a8\u515a\u79d8\u4e66\u957f\u6797\u51a0\u82f1\u4e8e2014\u5e744\u670817\u65e5\u5728\u5409\u9686\u5761\u53d1\u8868\u58f0\u660e\uff1a <\/p>\n<p>\u5361\u5df4\u661f\u8eab\u4e3a\u6c11\u4e3b\u884c\u52a8\u515a\u5168\u56fd\u9886\u8896\u3001\u66fe\u5728\u5409\u6253\u3001\u69df\u57ce\u62c5\u4efb\u8fc78\u5c4a\u56fd\u4f1a\u8bae\u5458\u30014\u5c4a\u5dde\u8bae\u5458\uff0c\u6211\u4eec\u5c06\u6c38\u8fdc\u8bb0\u5f97\uff0c\u4ed6\u662f\u90a3\u4e48\u5730\u65e0\u754f\u65e0\u60e7\uff0c\u6c38\u8fdc\u7ad9\u5728\u6b63\u4e49\u3001\u5ec9\u6b63\u53ca\u81ea\u7531\u4e00\u65b9\u7684\u7231\u56fd\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u4eba\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u4eca\u65e9\uff0c\u5168\u56fd\u4eba\u6c11\u90fd\u5728\u4e3a\u884c\u52a8\u515a\u5168\u56fd\u9886\u8896\u53ca\u6b66\u5409\u725b\u6c5d\u83aa\u56fd\u4f1a\u8bae\u5458\u5361\u5df4\u661f\u540c\u5fd7\u7684\u9aa4\u7136\u901d\u4e16\u54c0\u60bc\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u5361\u5df4\u661f\u9996\u6b21\u57281974\u5e74\u5f53\u9009\u8bae\u5458\u3002\u66fe\u5728\u725b\u6c5d\u83aa\u53ca\u65e5\u843d\u6d1e\u56fd\u4f1a\u9009\u533a\u62c5\u4efb\u8fc78\u5c4a\u7684\u56fd\u4f1a\u8bae\u5458\uff0c\u4e5f\u5728\u5409\u6253\u53ca\u69df\u57ce\u62c5\u4efb\u8fc74\u5c4a\u5dde\u8bae\u5458\u3002\u8fc7\u53bb40\u5e74\uff0c\u4ed6\u4e00\u76f4\u732e\u8eab\u4e8e\u516c\u4e49\u7684\u6597\u4e89\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u968f\u7740\u4ed6\u7684\u901d\u4e16\uff0c\u884c\u52a8\u515a\u5931\u53bb\u4e86\u4e00\u540d\u6b63\u76f4\u53ca\u4f18\u79c0\u7684\u9886\u8896\uff0c\u56fd\u6c11\u4e5f\u5931\u53bb\u4e86\u4e00\u540d\u7cbe\u901a\u6cd5\u5f8b\u3001\u65e0\u754f\u65e0\u60e7\u7684\u201c\u8001\u864e\u201d\uff0c\u4ed6\u5e38\u5e38\u4e0d\u5c48\u4e0d\u6320\u4e3a\u8d2b\u7a77\u3001\u5f31\u52bf\u7fa4\u4f53\u4ed7\u4e49\u76f4\u8a00\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u5361\u5df4\u661f\u66fe\u57281987\u5e74\u201c\u8305\u8349\u884c\u52a8\u201d\uff0c\u88ab\u5f53\u5c40\u63f4\u5f15\u5185\u5b89\u6cd5\u4ee4\u6263\u7559\u4e8615\u4e2a\u6708\u3002\u6211\u66fe\u6709\u90a3\u6837\u7684\u8363\u5e78\uff0c\u4e0e\u4ed6\u4e00\u8d77\u5728\u7518\u6587\u4e01\u6263\u7559\u8425\u4e2d\u5171\u60a3\u96be\uff0c\u5f53\u65f6\u4ed6\u627f\u53d7\u7740\u810a\u690e\u7684\u75c5\u75db\uff0c\u4e5f\u4e0d\u613f\u5c48\u670d\u3002\u4ed6\u4e0e\u6218\u53cb\u6797\u5409\u7965\u4e00\u6837\uff0c\u5728\u9762\u5bf9\u5f53\u65f6\u7684\u9996\u76f8\u6566\u9a6c\u54c8\u8fea\u533b\u751f\u65f6\u4e0d\u4ea2\u4e0d\u5351\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u5361\u5df4\u661f\u57282005\u5e74\u7ecf\u5386\u8fc7\u4e00\u573a\u8f66\u7978\u6d69\u52ab\uff0c\u5bfc\u81f4\u4ed6\u4e0b\u534a\u8eab\u762b\u75ea\u3002\u4ed6\u90a3\u4e0d\u5c48\u4e0d\u6320\u7684\u7cbe\u795e\u4e0d\u53ea\u8ba9\u4ed6\u514b\u670d\u4e86\u762b\u75ea\u7684\u75c5\u75db\uff0c\u8fd8\u8ba9\u4ed6\u7ee7\u7eed\u4e3a\u66f4\u7f8e\u597d\u7684\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u6597\u4e89\u3002\u5361\u5df4\u661f\u6210\u4e3a\u7b2c\u4e00\u4f4d\u4e24\u6b21\u4ee5\u591a\u6570\u7968\u4e2d\u9009\u4e3a\u56fd\u4f1a\u8bae\u5458\u7684\u6b8b\u969c\u4eba\u58eb\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u5361\u5df4\u661f\u521a\u521a\u5728\u4e0a\u4e2a\u6708\u88ab\u5224\u89e6\u72af\u717d\u52a8\u6cd5\u4ee4\uff0c\u4ed6\u7684\u6848\u4ef6\u8fd8\u5728\u4e0a\u8bc9\u5f53\u4e2d\u3002\u4f46\u662f\uff0c\u8fd9\u4e9b\u7262\u707e\u53ca\u963b\u788d\u5e76\u6ca1\u6709\u4ed6\u8ba9\u5bb3\u6015\uff0c\u4ed6\u4f9d\u7136
