Penang State EXCO Will Decide At Its Weekly Meeting On 2 April 2014 Whether To Follow The Perak State Government In Imposing Water Rationing In Taiping.

\nThe Penang state EXCO will decide at our weekly meeting on 2 April 2014 whether to follow the decision of the Perak state government to impose water rationing in Taiping. I was shocked to learn that the Perak state government will embark on water rationing for the first time ever in the wettest town in Peninuslar Malaysia, which is Taiping next week. <\/p>\n

Water rationing there is expected to affect some 28,000 of the total 85,000 water account holders here for two weeks from April 3rd. Perak State EXCO for Public Facilities, Infrastructure, Energy and Water Committee chairman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin said they had to resort to water rationing for the first time in Perak due to the dwindling water supply following the prolonged dry spell. <\/p>\n

This shows that Malaysia is facing the most severe drought in 15 years. I had previously announced that there will be no water rationing in March even through the current drought season. However a review will be done by Penang State EXCO for the month of April at our coming EXCO meeting of our existing stocks of water supplies and water reserves to determine whether such a water rationing is necessary in Penang. <\/p>\n

The Penang state government wishes to express grave disappointment that our water consumption continues to rise despite the numerous educational programmes and imposition of water conservation surcharges as a penalty on those who waste water. Last year, water consumption in Penang was the highest in Malaysia at 295 cu. liters per person per day. For the first two months of the year till 1st March 2014, that figure of water consumption has risen by 5.4% to 311. <\/p>\n

The Penang state government urges Penang\u2019s consumers to conserve and not waste water because our water consumption is now nearly 50% higher than the national average of 215 cu.liters per person per day. Our water resources and reserves can be extended by another 50% if we conserve water and use the same amount as the national average.<\/p>\n

EXCO Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang Akan Membuat Keputusan Pada Mesyuarat Mingguan Pada 2 April 2014 Sama Ada Untuk Mengikuti Langkah Kerajaan Negeri Perak Untuk Mengenakan Catuan Air Di Taiping.<\/p>\n

EXCO Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang akan membuat keputusan pada mesyaurat mingguan kami pada 2 April 2014 sama ada untuk mengikuti langkah Kerajaan Negeri Perak untuk mengenakan catuan air di Taiping. Saya terkejut mendengar bahawa kerajaan negeri Perak akan melaksanakan catuan air buat kali pertamanya di pekan paling \u201cbasah\u201d di Semenanjung Malaysia, iaitu Taiping, pada minggu depan.<\/p>\n

Catuan air di situ dijangka akan memberi kesan kepada 28,000 daripada 85,000 pemegang akaun air di sana untuk dua minggu bermula 3 April. EXCO Kerajaan Negeri untuk Kemudahan Awam, Infrastruktur, Tenaga dan Air Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin berkata bahawa mereka terpaksa membuat catuan air untuk kali pertama di Perak akibat bekalan air yang kian mengurang ekoran musim kemarau yang berlanjutan.<\/p>\n

Ini menunjukkang bahawa Malaysia berhadapan dengan kemarau yang paling teruk dalam 15 tahun. Sebelum ini saya telah mengumumkan bahawa tidak akan berlaku catuan air di bulan Mac walaupun kami melalui musim kemarau. Namun begitu, kajian semula bagi bulan April akan dibuat oleh EXCO Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang pada mesyuarat EXCO akan datang untuk mempertimbangkan bekalan air sedia ada dan rizab air untuk menentukan sama ada catuan air diperlukan di Pulau Pinang.<\/p>\n

Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang ingin menyatakan kekecewaan kerana penggunaan air makin meningkat walaupun banyak program pendidikan diadakan serta pelaksanaan surcaj pemuliharaan air sebagai penalti kepada mereka yang membazir air. Tahun lepas, penggunaan air di Pulau Pinang adalah paling tinggi di Malaysia, iaitu 295 liter padu seorang sehari. Untuk dua bulan pertama tahun ini sehingga 1 Mac 2014, angka penggunaan air sudah meningkat 5.4% kepada 311.<\/p>\n

Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang menyeru agar pengguna air Pulau Pinang memulihara dan tidak membazir air kerana penggunaan air kita sekarang hampir 50% lebih tinggi daripada purata kebangsaan, iaitu 215 liter padu seorang sehari. Sumber dan rizab air kita boleh dilanjutkan sebanyak 50% sekiranya kita memulihara air dan menggunakan jumlah yang sama dengan purata kebangsaan.<\/p>\n
