During this year\u2019s Chinese New Year festivities, the regular topic of discussion in family reunion gatherings is how the toxic atmosphere of playing with the fires of racial and religious hatred has paralysed the pursuit of happiness and hastened the brain drain by accelerating the exodus of human talent. Recent events coupled with the refusal to address the pressing issues of entrenched corruption and cronyism as well as price hikes that threaten the livelihood of ordinary Malaysians have lent credence to the view that BN has stopped governing because they no longer know how to rule.<\/p>\n
The violent demonstrations by UMNO supporters, the attempted fire-bomb attack on a Catholic church in Penang and the call by a UMNO division to ban the 200-year old practice of open selling of pork in a 95% non-Muslim area in Penang have raised serious doubts about UMNO\u2018s true motives and whether UMNO is intent on destroying the very foundations of a nation-state so assiduously built by their founders Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tun Abdul Razak.<\/p>\n
Since Merdeka official government statistics have revealed that more than 2 millon highly-skilled and talented Malaysians have left the country. In their place are more than 5 million unskilled foreign migrant workers from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Vietnam \u2013 clearly a loss in exchange value in skill gaps and management expertise for Malaysia.<\/p>\n
Even these unskilled foreign migrants sent back RM20 billion in remittances in 2012, a figure expected to increase to RM30 billion this year. With so many unskilled foreign migrants, some Malaysians are feeling like strangers in their own land, particularly in Sabah.<\/p>\n
Malaysians must not lose hope but compel UMNO to back down from playing with the fires of religious and racial hatred by focusing on the economy. Malaysians must persist to insist in integrity and transparency to fight the cancer of corruption, the pursuit of excellence and competitiveness must not be given up, give hope to the future by providing a platform of equal opportunities not only to build human talent but allow them to realise their potential and most important of all that social harmony can only be achieved by celebrating our differences.<\/p>\n
The public can not compromise in demanding good management and productivity skills in our political leaders. Political leaders must be subjected to the criteria of adopting sound management techniques of setting targets, rewarding performance and ensuring that the results can be measured.<\/p>\n
Only with an objective outcome-based administration can we ensure that the pusuit of happiness of Malaysians is not aN empty dream but a vision that can be realised through hard work, collaborative effort and respect for rule of law. There can be no rule of law when justice easily falls victim to power. There can only be rule of law when our legal system protects rights of all citizens and serve the people.<\/p>\n

Bermain api perkauman dan kebencian agama hanya akan melumpuhkan usaha ke arah kesejahteraan dan melajukan aliran keluar modal insan dengan mempercepatkan penghijrahan mereka. Demonstrasi ganas oleh penyokong UMNO, cubaan serangan bom api ke atas gereja Katolik di Pulau Pinang dan seruan suatu Bahagian UMNO untuk mengharamkan penjualan khinzir yang sudah berlangsung selama 200 tahun dalam kawasan 95% penduduknya bukan Islam membangkitkan keraguan serius tentang motif sebenar UMNO, dan sama ada UMNO benar-benar ingin memusnahkan asas sebuah negara bangsa yang dibina pengasas mereka; Tunku Abdul Rahman dan Tun Abdul Razak.<\/p>\n Sejak Merdeka, statistik rasmi kerajaan telah menunjukkan bahawa lebih daripada dua juta warganegara yang berbakat dan berkemahiran tinggi telah meninggalkan negara. Menggantikan tempat mereka adalah lebih 5 juta pekerja warga asing tidak terlatih dari Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar dan Vietnam – jelas satu kerugian dalam nilai tukaran dari segi jurang kemahiran dan kepakaran pengurusan di Malaysia.<\/p>\n Pekerja asing yang tidak berkemahiran ini pun menghantar pulang sejumlah RM20 bilion ke kampung halaman dalam tahun 2012, angka yang dijangka meningkat menjadi RM30 bilion tahun ini. Dengan kebanjiran warga asing, sesetengah warga Malaysia terasa asing di bumi sendiri, terutamanya di Sabah.<\/p>\n Warga Malaysia tidak harus putus asa malah terus memaksa UMNO untuk mengalah dan berhenti daripada bermain dengan api kebencian kaum dan agama dan lebih memberi fokus kepada ekonomi. Warga Malaysia mestilah terus menuntut integriti dan ketelusan dalam membanteras barah korupsi. Usaha ke arah kecemerlangan dan persaingan sihat juga tidak boleh dihentikan. Berilah harapan untuk masa depan dengan menyediakan landasan bagi peluang saksama; bukan sahaja untuk membina kemahiran malah untuk menyediakan peluang kepada mereka bagi merealisasikan potensi. Dan yang paling penting, keharmonian sosial hanya dapat dikecapi dengan meraikan kepelbagaian sesama kita.<\/p>\n Rakyat tidak boleh berkompromi dalam menuntut urustadbir yang baik serta kemahiran produktiviti di kalangan pimpinan politik. Pemimpin politik harus menepati syarat kemahiran pengurusan yang baik dengan menetapkan sasaran, memberi anugerah atas prestasi cemerlang dan memastikan keputusan dan hasil boleh diukur.<\/p>\n Hanya pentadbiran berteraskan hasilan objektif sahaja dapat memastikan usaha ke arah kesejahteraan rakyat Malaysia bukan sekadar mimpi, malahan satu visi yang boleh menjadi realiti melalui kerja keras, usaha bersama serta rasa hormat kepada kedaulatan undang-undang. Tidak mungkin undang-undang itu berdaulat sekiranya keadilan menjadi mangsa kekuasaan. \nSepanjang sambutan Tahun Baru Cina kali ini, topik yang biasa dibincangkan dalam perhimpunan keluarga ialah betapa beracunnya persekitaran yang sarat dengan permainan api perkauman dan kebencian agama yang melumpuhkan usaha ke arah kesejahteraan dan melajukan aliran keluar modal insan dengan mempercepatkan penghijrahan mereka. Kejadian-kejadian terkini bersekali dengan keengganan untuk menangani isu mendesak yang sudah begitu sebati seperti rasuah, kronisme serta kenaikan harga barang yang mengancam kehidupan masyarakat Malaysia mengukuhkan pendapat bahawa BN telah berhenti menjadi kerajaan kerana mereka sudah tidak tahu lagi bagaimana untuk memerintah.<\/p>\n
