For Penang to have a digital technological cluster that works, it must be profitable in the market place. First, we need to have a sizeable startup colony (\u201cecosystem\u201d) and also hundreds of startup schools (\u201caccelerators\u201d) to drive and propel the ecosystem forward. In between there is a need for entrepreneurial talent with digital knowhow or technopreneurs to make digital technology work in the marketplace by being profitable. The Penang state government can provide some seed money and a platform but the basis of success will still depend on the private sector, individual entrepreneurs and digital experts. This effort to build clusters will be driven by the Penang Science Council and investPenang and even PSDC.<\/p>\n
The buzz of 3D printing has attracted the interest of many including myself. Perhaps the possibility of having a 3D printing lab in Penang seems remote but when I was informed of PSDC-IME Rapid Model Development Lab having such facility, I have requested for a visit to see for myself how this lab will contribute to Penang\u2019s industrial growth. Opened since November last year, this lab is definitely the first of its kind in Malaysia.<\/p>\n
Jointly set up through a smart collaboration between PSDC and IME Group, the lab provides more than 3D printing. It offers a one-stop solution in product design and development thus allowing at least 10 companies from MNCs, large local companies, and schools to use this facility.<\/p>\n
I am pleased that the lab offers a comprehensive suite of services which include the following:
\nConcept modeling, industrial design, mechanical engineering, ergonomics analysis, design validation and simulation, rapid prototyping, 3D scanning, quality inspection, and production support such as tool design and direct digital manufacturing.
\nProduct design and development training courses and certification programs<\/p>\n
The RM1.5 million state of the art and revolutionary technologies equipment is definitely a plus to serve the rapidly growing needs of various industries such as Aerospace, Automotive, Architecture, Business Machines, Consumer Products, Electronics, Entertainment, Industrial Equipment, Interior Design, Medical Devices, Oil & Gas, Toy Manufacturing, and many more.<\/p>\n
Gartner is also expecting enterprises to spend more on 3D printer over the next few years, with enterprises spending more than USD325 Million in 2013 vs USD87 million in the consumer segment; and USD563 million in 2014 vs consumer spending of USD133 million.<\/p>\n

Clearly the demand for industrial 3D printing has increased significantly and I am sure the services offered by PSDC\/IME will allow companies within this region use the shared services offered. This will then enable them to save on the total cost of ownership in purchasing new machines to do any 3D printing activities as well as other design and development work.<\/p>\n
I believe this lab provides a great opportunity to leverage from the shared services as well as one stop solution centre for many MNCs and SMEs around this region. I will like to take this opportunity to further thank PSDC for taking this opportunity to offer such services to the industry in this region.<\/p>\n

\u8981\u8ba9\u69df\u57ce\u6709\u4e00\u4e2a\u771f\u6b63\u80fd\u591f\u8fd0\u4f5c\u7684\u6570\u7801\u6280\u672f\u96c6\u7fa4\uff08digital technological cluster\uff09\uff0c\u90a3\u5b83\u5c31\u5fc5\u9700\u662f\u80fd\u591f\u5728\u5e02\u573a\u4e0a\u53d1\u6325\u7ecf\u6d4e\u6548\u76ca\uff08\u8d5a\u94b1\uff09\u7684\u3002\u9996\u5148\uff0c\u6211\u4eec\u9700\u8981\u6709\u4e00\u4e2a\u76f8\u5f53\u5927\u7684\u542f\u52a8\u7fa4\u4f53\uff08\u6216\u79f0\u4e3a\u201c\u751f\u6001\u7cfb\u7edf\u201d\uff09\uff0c\u4ee5\u53ca\u6570\u767e\u95f4\u542f\u52a8\u7684\u5b66\u6821\uff08\u201c\u52a0\u901f\u5668\u201d) \uff0c\u4ee5\u9a71\u4f7f\u53ca\u63a8\u52a8\u6574\u4e2a\u751f\u6001\u7cfb\u7edf\uff0c\u8ba9\u5b83\u5f97\u4ee5\u5f80\u524d\u53d1\u5c55\u3002\u8fd9\u5f53\u4e2d\uff0c \u6211\u4eec\u9700\u8981\u90a3\u4e9b\u7cbe\u901a\u6570\u7801\u7684\u4f01\u4e1a\u5bb6\u6216\u79d1\u6280\u521b\u4e1a\u8005\uff0c\u5c06\u6570\u7801\u6280\u672f\u201c\u6709\u5229\u53ef\u56fe\u5316\u201d\uff0c\u8fdb\u800c\u80fd\u591f\u8ba9\u6570\u7801\u6280\u672f\u5728\u5e02\u573a\u4e0a\u7acb\u8db3\u3002\u69df\u5dde\u653f\u5e9c\u53ef\u4ee5\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e00\u4e9b\u79cd\u5b50\u57fa\u91d1\u53ca\u5e73\u53f0\uff0c\u4e0d\u8fc7\uff0c\u6210\u529f\u7684\u57fa\u7840\u5374\u4f9d\u7136\u9700\u8981\u4f9d\u9760\u79c1\u4eba\u754c\u3001\u4f01\u4e1a\u5bb6\u672c\u8eab\u53ca\u6570\u7801\u4e13\u5bb6\u3002\u5efa\u7acb\u96c6\u7fa4\u7684\u52aa\u529b\uff0c\u5c06\u4f1a\u7531\u69df\u5dde\u79d1\u5b66\u7406\u4e8b\u4f1a\u3001\u6295\u8d44\u69df\u57ce\u53ca\u69df\u5dde\u6280\u672f\u53d1\u5c55\u4e2d\u5fc3\u6240\u4e3b\u5bfc\u3002<\/p>\n
3D\u7acb\u4f53\u6253\u5370\uff0c\u6311\u8d77\u4e86\u4e0d\u5c11\u4eba\u7684\u5174\u8da3\uff0c\u5305\u62ec\u6211\u672c\u8eab\u3002\u4e5f\u8bb8\u5728\u69df\u57ce\u6709\u4e00\u4e2a3D \u7acb\u4f53\u6253\u5370\u5b9e\u9a8c\u5ba4\u4f3c\u4e4e\u5f88\u9065\u8fdc\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u5f53\u6211\u88ab\u901a\u77e5\u8bf4\u69df\u5dde\u6280\u672f\u53d1\u5c55\u4e2d\u5fc3-IME Rapid Model Development Lab\u6709\u7c7b\u4f3c\u7684\u8bbe\u65bd\u65f6\uff0c\u6211\u8981\u6c42\u4eb2\u81ea\u5230\u8bbf\uff0c\u4ee5\u4e86\u89e3\u8fd9\u4e2a\u5b9e\u9a8c\u5ba4\uff0c\u5982\u4f55\u4e3a\u69df\u5dde\u7684\u5de5\u4e1a\u53d1\u5c55\u4f5c\u51fa\u8d21\u732e\u3002\u53bb\u5e7411 \u6708\u5f00\u8bbe\u76843D \u6253\u5370\u5b9e\u9a8c\u5ba4\u662f\u5168\u9a6c\u9996\u95f4\u5177\u6709\u7c7b\u4f3c\u8bbe\u5907\u7684\u5b9e\u9a8c\u5ba4\u3002<\/p>\n
\u8fd9\u9879\u7531\u69df\u5dde\u6280\u672f\u53d1\u5c55\u4e2d\u5fc3\u53caIME\u96c6\u56e2\u8054\u624b\u6253\u9020\u76843D \u6253\u5370\u5b9e\u9a8c\u5ba4\uff0c\u5e76\u4e0d\u53ea\u662f3D\u6253\u5370\u6280\u672f\u800c\u5df2\u3002\u5b83\u4e5f\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e00\u7ad9\u5f0f\u4ea7\u54c1\u8bbe\u8ba1\u53ca\u5f00\u53d1\u65b9\u6848\uff0c\u56e0\u6b64\u80fd\u591f\u8ba9\u81f3\u5c1110\u5bb6\u8de8\u56fd\u516c\u53f8\u3001\u5927\u578b\u7684\u672c\u5730\u516c\u53f8\u53ca\u5b66\u6821\u4f7f\u7528\u8fd9\u4e2a\u8bbe\u65bd\u3002<\/p>\n
\u6211\u5f88\u9ad8\u5174\u770b\u5230\u8fd9\u5b9e\u9a8c\u5ba4\u63d0\u4f9b\u8fd9\u4e48\u5168\u9762\u7684\u670d\u52a1\uff0c\u5305\u62ec\uff1a\u6982\u5ff5\u9020\u578b\u3001\u5de5\u4e1a\u8bbe\u8ba1\u3001\u673a\u68b0\u5de5\u7a0b\u3001\u4eba\u673a\u5de5\u7a0b\u5b66\u5206\u6790\u3001\u8bbe\u8ba1\u9a8c\u8bc1\u4e0e\u4eff\u771f\u3001\u5feb\u901f\u6210\u5f62\u6280\u672f\u30013D \u626b\u63cf\u3001\u8d28\u91cf\u68c0\u9a8c\u53ca\u751f\u4ea7\u7ebf\u7684\u652f\u6301\u5982\u5de5\u5177\u8bbe\u8ba1\u53ca\u76f4\u63a5\u6570\u7801\u5316\u5236\u9020\u7b49\u3002\u4ea7\u54c1\u8bbe\u8ba1\u4e0e\u5f00\u53d1\u7684\u57f9\u8bad\u8bfe\u7a0b\u4ee5\u53ca\u6587\u51ed\u8bfe\u7a0b\u3002<\/p>\n
