Senseless Loss of Heritage – Destruction of An Ancient Hindu Temple in Bujang Valley, Kedah.<\/strong><\/p>\n DAP is surprised at the Kedah state government proposal to relocate significant structures from the ancient Lembah Bujang civilisation that is scattered over a 200km square area to a single site. This is out of character of most archaeological excavations of an entire civilisation that are done \u201cin-situ\u201d, except when certain items such as vases or clay figurines can be taken away for display at a museum.<\/p>\n Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said it would be more practical to assemble the structures in one location, as the ruins and remnants from the oldest civilisation in the region were scattered \u201ctoo far and wide\u201d. But to move or remove them from the original site would risk the danger of detracting, diminishing and even devaluing the unique historical significance of the site chosen by the original inhabitants 2,000 years ago, that is known internationally as the Bujang Valley civilisation. Let the experts decide whether this approach is sound and proper.<\/p>\n Datuk Mukhriz said that he wanted Kedahans to rest assured that Kedah\u2019s heritage as the oldest civilisation in the whole of Malaysia will be celebrated. However there should be full accountability from Datuk Mukhriz to the tragic end of a pre-historic 1200 years-old Sri Vijayan Hindu temple (known as Candi No. 11) in Sungei Batu area of Bujang Valley.<\/p>\n Boasting a sprawling area of hundreds of acres, Bujang Valley is arguably Malaysia\u2019s richest archaeological site and world-renowned for the preserved cultural remains of ancient Buddhism and Hinduism as well as representing the beginning of early Malay civilisation.<\/p>\n What is now left of the Candi\u2019s immense historical value and significance, given its birth between the 11th and 13th century, is a piece of cleared land for a housing project. The temple\u2019s disappearance was discovered and brought to public attention by Datuk V. Nadarajan and recently confirmed by Penang\u2019s Deputy Chief Minister II, Prof. P. Ramasamy, who had earlier researched on the Chola presence in Bujang Valley.<\/p>\n Such destruction could have been avoided if the Merbok Land Office had monitored and notified the developer of the existence of this historical structure. Not only was this not done, the developer was also given the green-light to proceed with clearance of the site!<\/p>\n The sheer negligence and failure of heritage management by the Kedah state government has resulted in a senseless loss of heritage. It is a black mark for Malaysia that fails to safeguard historical treasures for future generations when saving ancient historical monuments like those in Bujang Valley is a solemn duty imposed on the Federal and state government.<\/p>\n The Federal Government must stop operating by remote control from air-conditioned offices in Putrajaya. Instead funds should be given to set up Heritage offices in states with rich archaeological sites such as Penang, Kedah and Melaka.<\/p>\n The Kedah State Government should use this unfortunate episode to galvanise its efforts to draft out a Aracheological Heritage Management Plan to preserve their remaining historical structures and artefacts in the Bujang Valley. Ini tidak menepati amalan galian arkeologi sesebuah tamadun yang sentiasa dilakukan di tempat asal, kecuali jika terdapat objek-objek seperti pasu atau figura tanah liat yang boleh dipindahkan untuk tujuan pameran di muzium.<\/p>\n Menteri Besar Kedah, datuk Mukhriz Mahathir berkata adalah lebih praktikal untuk membuat pemasangan struktur-struktur tersebut di sebuah lokasi tetap, memandangkan tinggalan tamadun tertua dalam rantau ini tersebut wujud sejara berselerak di merata-rata tempat. Namun untuk memindah atau mengubah struktur tersebut dari kedudukan asal membawa risiko untuk menukar bentuk, menghilangkan malah mengurangkan nilai kepentingan sejarah yang begitu unik terhadap tapak asal yang dipilih oleh penduduk asli kawasan tersebut 2000 tahun lalu; yang dikenali di seluruh dunia sebagai tamadun Lembah Bujang. Biarlah para pakar memutuskan sama ada pendekatan ini baik dan boleh dilakukan. <\/p>\n Datuk Mukriz memberi jaminan kepada rakyat Kedah bahawa warisan negeri Kedah sebagai tamadun tertua di Malaysia akan diraikan. Namun sepatutnya wujud akauntabiliti sepenuhnya daripada Datuk Mukhriz terhadap tradegi yang menimpa candi pra-sejarah berusia 1200 tahun Sri Vijaya (yang dikenali sebagai Candi No. 11) di Sungei Batu dalam kawasan Lembah Bujang. <\/p>\n Terletak dalam kawasan dengan keluasan beratus-ratus ekar, Lembah Bujang adalah tapak arkeologi terkaya di Malaysia dan terkenal di seluruh dunia oleh kerana warisan budaya Hindu-Buddha kuno yang terjaga, serta sebagai permulaan kepada lahirnya tamadun Melayu awal. <\/p>\n Apa yang tinggal daripada Candi yang mempunyai nilai dan signifikan sejarah yang tinggi, kerana dibina antara kurun ke 11 dan 13, hanyalah sebidang tanah lapang siap untuk projek perumahan. Kehilangan candi terbabit disedari dan dikhabarkan kepada umum oleh Datuk V. Nadarajan dan disahkan oleh Timbalan Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang II, Prof. P. Ramasamy, yang dahulunya pernah mengkaji tentang kehadiran dinasti Chola di Lembah Bujang. <\/p>\n Kehancuran seperti ini boleh dielakkan sekiranya Pejabat Tanah Merbok mengawasi dan memaklumkan pihak pemaju tentang kewujudan struktur bersejarah ini. Bukan sahaja ini tidak dilakukan, pihak pemaju juga diberikan kebenaran untuk meratakan kawasan terbabit!<\/p>\n Kelalaian dan kegagalan pengurusan warisan oleh Kerajaan Negeri Kedah telah mengakibatkan kehilangan warisan yang tidak masuk akal. Ia adalah suatu titik hitam bagi Malaysia yang gagal menjaga tinggalan sejarah untuk generasi akan datang sedangkan tugas menjaga monumen bersejarah seperti yang ada di Lembah Bujang adalah tugas mulia yang dipertanggungjawabkan ke atas kedua-dua kerajaan Persekutuan dan Negeri.<\/p>\n Kerajaan Persekutuan harus berhenti beroperasi secara \u2018remote control\u2019 dari pejabat berhawa dingin di Putrajaya. Malah dana harus disediakan untuk menubuhkan pejabat-pejabat warisan di negeri-negeri yang kaya dengan tapak arkeologi seperti di Pulau Pinang, Kedah dan Melaka.<\/p>\n Kerajaan Negeri Kedah harus menggunakan episod malang ini untuk memperkasakan usaha bagi merangka plan pengurusan warisan arkeologi untuk melindungi struktur sejarah yang masih tinggal di Lembah Bujang. Saya cadangkan supaya Kerajaan Persekutuan mengambil langkah segera bagi menyenaraikan Lembah Bujang sebagai sebuah tapak warisan di bawah UNESCO.<\/p>\n LIM GUAN ENG<\/p>\n —–Mandarin Version \u5bf9\u4e8e\u5409\u6253\u5dde\u653f\u5e9c\u5efa\u8bae\u91cd\u65b0\u5b89\u7f6e\u5206\u6563\u5728200\u5e73\u65b9\u516c\u91cc\u7684\u5e03\u79e7\u8c37\u53e4\u6587\u660e\u5230\u4e00\u4e2a\u5730\u70b9\uff0c\u6c11\u4e3b\u884c\u52a8\u515a\u611f\u5230\u60ca\u8bb6\u3002\u8fd9\u79cd\u628a\u4e00\u4e2a\u5b8c\u6574\u6587\u660e\u653e\u5728\u4e00\u5904\uff08in-situ\uff09\u7684\u8003\u53e4\u53e4\u8ff9\u5b8c\u5168\u4e0d\u76f8\u7b26\uff0c\u9664\u975e\u5b83\u662f\u7279\u522b\u7269\u4ef6\u5982\uff1a\u82b1\u74f6\u6216\u6ce5\u5851\uff0c\u624d\u80fd\u591f\u653e\u5230\u535a\u7269\u9986\u5c55\u89c8\u3002<\/p>\n \u5409\u6253\u5dde\u52a1\u5927\u81e3\u62ff\u7763\u6155\u514b\u529b\u8bf4\uff0c\u628a\u8fd9\u4e9b\u5efa\u7b51\u7ed3\u6784\u96c6\u7ed3\u5230\u540c\u4e00\u4e2a\u5730\u70b9\u66f4\u52a0\u5b9e\u9645\uff0c\u56e0\u4e3a\u4e0a\u8ff0\u53e4\u8001\u6587\u660e\u7684\u9057\u5740\u5730\u6bb5\u5206\u5f97\u592a\u6563\u201c\u592a\u8fdc\u53ca\u592a\u5e7f\u201d\u3002\u4f46\u662f\uff0c\u8981\u628a\u4ed6\u4eec\u4ece\u539f\u5740\u642c\u5230\u5176\u5b83\u5730\u533a\uff0c\u5c06\u53ef\u80fd\u5bfc\u81f4\u8fd9\u4e2a2000\u5e74\u524d\u4eba\u7c7b\u6587\u660e\u9057\u8ff9- \u5e03\u79e7\u8c37\u6587\u660e\u7684\u4ef7\u503c\u88ab\u8f6c\u79fb\u3001\u7f29\u5c0f\u751a\u81f3\u8d2c\u503c\u3002\u5c31\u8ba9\u4e13\u5bb6\u51b3\u5b9a\u8fd9\u79cd\u65b9\u6cd5\u662f\u5426\u53ef\u884c\u3001\u5408\u7406\u3002<\/p>\n \u62ff\u7763\u6155\u514b\u529b\u8bf4\uff0c\u4ed6\u8981\u5409\u6253\u4eba\u653e\u5fc3\uff0c\u6211\u56fd\u4f4d\u4e8e\u5409\u6253\u6700\u53e4\u8001\u7684\u6587\u660e\u9057\u5740\u5c06\u4f1a\u53d7\u5230\u91cd\u89c6\u53ca\u4fdd\u62a4\u3002\u4f46\u662f\uff0c\u62ff\u7763\u6155\u514b\u529b\u5fc5\u987b\u4ea4\u4ee3\u8fd9\u4e2a\u4f4d\u4e8e\u53cc\u6eaa\u5cc7\u90fd\u5e03\u79e7\u8c37\u53f2\u524d1200\u5e74\u5174\u90fd11\/3\u5e99\u5b87\u906d\u7834\u574f\u7684\u4e8b\u4ef6\u3002<\/p>\n \u6574\u4e2a\u5e03\u79e7\u8c37\u5386\u53f2\u53e4\u8ff9\u533a\u5360\u5730100\u591a\u5e73\u65b9\u516c\u91cc\uff0c\u4e5f\u662f\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u53f2\u6599\u6700\u4e30\u5bcc\u7684\u8003\u53e4\u533a\uff0c\u4e5f\u4e16\u754c\u95fb\u540d\u7684\u53e4\u4ee3\u4f5b\u6559\u53ca\u5174\u90fd\u6559\u7684\u6587\u5316\u53e4\u8ff9\uff0c\u4e5f\u6807\u699c\u7740\u65e9\u671f\u7684\u9a6c\u6765\u6587\u660e\u3002<\/p>\n \u5982\u679c\u9a6c\u83ab\u53bf\u5c5e\u76d1\u7763\u5e76\u901a\u77e5\u53d1\u5c55\u5546\u6709\u5173\u5386\u53f2\u9057\u8ff9\u7684\u5b58\u5728\uff0c\u8fd9\u79cd\u7834\u574f\u53e4\u8ff9\u7684\u4e8b\u4ef6\u53ef\u4ee5\u907f\u514d\u3002\u4f46\u662f\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u4e0d\u4ec5\u6ca1\u6709\u8fd9\u4e48\u505a\uff0c\u800c\u4e14\u53d1\u5c55\u5546\u8fd8\u88ab\u5141\u8bb8\u7ee7\u7eed\u6e05\u7406\u8fd9\u4e2a\u9057\u8ff9\uff01<\/p>\n
