Just as Tunku Abdul Rahman shouted our Merdeka 7 times 56 years ago, let us renew our bonds of freedom, justice, truth, democracy and human dignity. These values and principles that helped us achieve Merdeka will also make Malaysia an exceptional nation.<\/p>\n

Malaysians may not feel very exceptional when it is more fashionable now to be an extremist and racist than a Malaysian, to propagate lies than celebrate the truth and close our eyes to corruption and injustice. However the day will come when it is un-Malaysian to be a racist, a liar and corrupt. Malaysians will see through the lies such as those contained in the Federal government sponsored film of Tanda Putera, which sows racial hatred and division instead of harmony and reconciliation. <\/p>\n

Let us focus on what makes Malaysia and Penang great and exceptional \u2013 a safe, clean, green and healthy state. This will be given full attention by the Penang state government beginning with retaining Penang\u2019s status as the safest state in Malaysia.<\/p>\n

Even though the crime index rose to nearly 10% during the first four months of this year, the rise of the crime index has been slowed down to 4.4% by end August 2013. This shows the success of efforts of the police, together with co-operation of the state government and the public to fight crime. Such efforts will not only be continued but redoubled.<\/p>\n

Making Penang cleaner, greener and healthier are the aspirations of the people of Penang when they re-elected the PR Penang state government with 68% of the popular vote in the 2013 general elections, an increase of 10% over the 58% popular vote obtained in the 2008 general elections. The Penang state government will not disappoint the people but will ensure that the success and prosperity can be enjoyed by all peacefully.

Sebagaimana Tunku Abdul Rahman melaungkan kata Merdeka 7 kali pada 56 tahun yang lalu, marilah kita memperbaharui ikatan bersama akan kebebasan, keadilan, kebenaran, demokrasi dan maruah kemanusiaan. Nilai-nilai dan prinsip-prinsip yang telah membantu kita mencapai Merdeka juga akan menjadikan Malaysia sebuah negara yang luar biasa.<\/p>\n

Malaysia tidak mungkin berasa sangat luar biasa apabila kini seolah-olah lebih bergaya untuk menjadi seorang pelampau dan bersikap perkauman, untuk menyebarkan pembohongan daripada meraikan kebenaran dan menutup mata kita dengan rasuah dan ketidakadilan. Walau bagaimanapun hari itu akan tiba apabila adalah sangat tidak berjiwa Malaysia untuk menjadi seorang yang bersifat perkauman, pembohong dan perasuah. Rakyat Malaysia akan membongkar pembohongan seperti yang terkandung dalam filem tajaan kerajaan Persekutuan, Tanda Putera, yang menuai kebencian kaum dan memecah-belahkan, dan bukannya keharmonian dan perdamaian.<\/p>\n

Marilah kita memberi tumpuan kepada apa yang menjadikan Malaysia dan Pulau Pinang hebat dan luar biasa – keadaan yang selamat, bersih, hijau dan sihat. Ini akan diberi perhatian sepenuhnya oleh kerajaan negeri Pulau Pinang bermula dengan mengekalkan status Pulau Pinang sebagai negeri yang paling selamat di Malaysia.<\/p>\n

Walaupun indeks jenayah meningkat kepada hampir 10% dalam tempoh empat bulan pertama tahun ini, peningkatan indeks jenayah telah menurun kepada 4.4% pada akhir Ogos 2013. Ini menunjukkan kejayaan usaha polis, bersama-sama dengan kerjasama kerajaan negeri dan orang awam untuk membanteras jenayah. Usaha ini bukan sahaja akan berterusan tetapi telah digandakan.<\/p>\n

Menjadikan Pulau Pinang lebih bersih, hijau dan sihat adalah aspirasi rakyat Pulau Pinang apabila mereka memilih semula Pakatan Rakyat sebagai Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang dengan 68% undi popular dalam pilihan raya umum 2013, peningkatan sebanyak 10% berbanding undi popular 58% diperolehi dalam pilihan raya umum 2008. Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang tidak akan mengecewakan rakyat tetapi akan memastikan kejayaan dan kemakmuran yang boleh dinikmati oleh semua ini berterusan.<\/p>\n
