UMNO Pinang Tunggal ADUN Dato Roslan Saidin should publicly withdraw and apologise to all doctors for his sensational lies that there were 3 Chinese doctors in 2 government hospitals in Penang that were racist for refusing to treat Malay patients caused by the DAP\u2019s election campaign during the recent general elections. This follows Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam statement yesterday that there were no elements of racism in the Chinese doctors refusing to treat Malay patients.<\/p>\n

Roslan had told the state assembly on July 3 that the incidents involved six patients, two doctors from the Kepala Batas Hospital and one from the Seberang Jaya Hospital. Roslan linked his claim of racist doctors to the DAP\u2019s successful campaign in causing the drop in support for the BN from the Chinese community in the 13th general election. However Roslan did not provide any evidence nor made an official complaint to the Health Ministry.<\/p>\n

It was only after pressure from the Penang state government and my open letter to Subramaniam demanding action, did Roslan produce some patients complaining of poor medical treatment and lodged a complaint with the Health Ministry. I had urged Subramaniam to punish the doctors if the allegation of racism is true by sacking them and disqualifying them as doctors for violating the Hippocratic oath of treating all humanity regardless of race, gender and religion<\/p>\n

Instead Subramaniam now says there was no racism and amongst the many factors were poor communication skills in the doctors concerned. Clearly it is Roslan that must withdraw and apologise. Now that the Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam had publicly repudiated Roslan\u2019s allegations, Roslan must repent for his lies that has tarnished the good image of doctors and also affected the harmony in our multi-racial community.<\/p>\n

Roslan should realise that he committed a grievous error by making this lie in the Penang State Assembly and should show his respect for the Assembly by telling the truth not lies.<\/p>\n

However, the Penang state government is heartened by the support given by Malay doctors who were angry at this dishonest attack against the medical profession and Malay patients who disbelieved Roslan because their health and lives were saved by Chinese and Indian doctors.<\/p>\n

\nADUN UMNO Pinang Tunggal Dato Roslan Saidin perlu menarik balik dan memohon maaf secara terbuka kepada semua doktor atas pembohongan sensasi beliau bahawa terdapat 3 orang doktor berketurunan Cina di 2 buah hospital kerajaan di Pulau Pinang yang bersifat rasis kerana enggan merawat pesakit Melayu disebabkan oleh kempen pilihan raya DAP semasa pilihan raya umum baru-baru ini. Ini berikutan kenyataan Menteri Kesihatan, Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam semalam bahawa tidak ada unsur-unsur perkauman dalam isu ini.<\/p>\n

Roslan membuat kenyataan dalam Dewan Undangan Negeri pada 3 Julai bahawa insiden itu membabitkan enam pesakit, dua doktor dari Hospital Kepala Batas dan seorang dari Hospital Seberang Jaya. Roslan mengaitkan dakwaan beliau dengan kejayaan kempen DAP yang menyebabkan kemorosotan sokongan masyarakat Cina terhadap BN pada Pilihan Raya Umum ke-13 lalu. Walau bagaimanapun Roslan tidak memberikan apa-apa keterangan atau membuat aduan rasmi kepada Kementerian Kesihatan.<\/p>\n

Hanya selepas tekanan daripada Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang dan surat terbuka saya yang menuntut tindakan Subramaniam, sama ada Roslan membuat sebarang laporan mana-mana pesakit yang mengadu berkenaan kualiti rawatan perubatan kepada Kementerian Kesihatan. Saya telah menggesa Subramaniam untuk menghukum doktor terbabit jika dakwaan berkenaan perkauman tersebut benar dengan memecat mereka serta menarik kelayakan mereka sebagai doktor kerana melanggar sumpah untuk merawat semua manusia tanpa mengira bangsa, jantina dan agama.<\/p>\n

Sebaliknya kini, Subramaniam berkata tidak ada isu perkauman dan isu yang timbul adalah kemahiran komunikasi doktor tersebut yang lemah. Jelas sekali Roslan perlu menarik balik kenyataan beliau dan memohon maaf. Sekarang Menteri Kesihatan, Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam telah secara terbuka menolak dakwaan Roslan itu, Roslan perlu memohon maaf atas pembohongan yang telah mencemarkan imej baik doktor dan juga menjejaskan keharmonian dalam masyarakat berbilang kaum.<\/p>\n

Roslan perlu sedar bahawa beliau telah melakukan satu kesilapan yang serius dengan membuat pembohongan ini di dalam Dewan Undangan Negeri Pulau Pinang dan perlu menunjukkan rasa hormat terhadap dewan yang mulai ini dengan berkata benar, bukan sebaliknya.<\/p>\n

Walau bagaimanapun, Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang gembira dengan sokongan yang diberikan oleh doktor Melayu yang marah pada serangan tidak jujur terhadap profesion perubatan ini dan pesakit Melayu yang tidak percaya kepada Roslan kerana kesihatan dan nyawa mereka telah diselamatkan oleh doktor Melayu, Cina dan India.<\/p>\n
