Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Gaun Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 2.6.2013.<\/p>\n

Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar should heed the tragic, angry and plaintive cries of the wife of death in custody victim N Dharmendran that policemen linked to his death should be arrested and in the lock-up for murder instead of been given desk jobs. Why is Tan Sri Khalid suddenly so quiet and passive about this criminal act that led to another custodial death when he had threatened all sorts of action against PR leaders and law-abiding Malaysians who attended peaceful rallies seeking clean, free and fair polls reforms? <\/p>\n

DAP is shocked by Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi\u2019s inhumane and irresponsible attitude towards this tragic custodial death that the policemen involved should not be suspended from duty lest the police force be demoralised. Such callous remarks shows that Ahmad Zahid is not fit to be Home Minister as he is not protecting public safety regardless who commits crimes whether it is from lawless criminals or policemen or duty. <\/p>\n

Both the Home Minister and Inspector-General of Police had remained silent, indifferent and even uncaring instead of expressing outrage, regret and sorrow for the family of N Dharmendran for the death sustained from 52 injuries relating to canings and being stapled repeatedly whilst handcuffed. Failure to do so has led to negative public perception at the BN Federal government that it has devalued the death of N Dharmendran as less worthy of one Malaysian citizen. <\/p>\n

DAP demands that the policemen involved in the latest custodial deaths be arrested and put in the lock-up on charges for murder. Malaysians had hoped that after the untimely death of those under the responsibility of security authorities from Teoh Beng Hock, K. Kugan and Customs officer Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed, that there will be no more custodial deaths. <\/p>\n

Unfortunately the BN Federal government does not appear to have the political will to come down hard to punish and take preventive measures. Establishing the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission(IPCMC) would go a long way to assure the Malaysian public of the BN Federal government\u2019s commitment to prevent custodial death.<\/p>\n

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi Harus Buktikan Beliau Layak Menjadi Menteri Dalam Negeri Dan Memberi Perhatian Kepada Tangisan Marah Isteri N Dharmendran Dengan Menangkap Dan Mengurung Dalam Lokap Pegawai-Pegawai Polis Yang Terlibat Dalam Pembunuhan Tragis Mangsa Tersebut.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Menteri Dalam Negeri Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi dan Ketua Polis Negara Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar harus memberi perhatian kepada tangisan tragis, marah dan mendayu-dayu isteri mangsa kematian dalam tahanan N Dharmendran dengan menangkap dan mengurung dalam lokap pegawai-pegawai polis yang terlibat dalam pembunuhan tersebut, daripada hanya memberi mereka tugas pejabat. Kenapa Tan Sri Khalid boleh secara tiba-tiba menjadi diam dan pasif mengenai tindakan jenayah yang telah mengakibatkan satu lagi kematian dalam tahanan ini apabila beliau telah mengugut pelbagai tindakan terhadap pemimpin-pemimpin PR dan rakyat Malaysia yang mematuhi undang-undang hanya kerana mereka telah menghadiri perhimpunan-perhimpunan aman yang menuntut reformasi pilihan raya yang bersih, bebas dan adil?<\/p>\n

DAP terkejut dengan sikap Menteri Dalam Negeri Zahid Hamidi yang tidak berperikemanusiaan dan tidak bertanggungjawab terhadap kematian dalam tahanan yang tragis ini, di mana beliau menyatakan pegawai-pegawai polis yang terlibat tidak patut digantung tugas agar semangat pasukan polis tidak dipatah. Kenyataan yang begitu tidak berhati perut ini menunjukkan bahawa Ahmad Zahid tidak layak menjadi Menteri Dalam Negeri kerana beliau tidak melindungi keselamatan awam tanpa mengira siapa yang melakukan jenayah sama ada ia merupakan penjenayah atau pegawai polis yang bertugas.<\/p>\n

Kedua-dua Menteri Dalam Negeri dan Ketua Polis Negara telah berdiam dan bersikap tidak ambil peduli, dan tidak menunjukkan kemarahan, rasa kesal atau dukacita terhadap keluarga N Dharmendran yang telah dibunuh dengan 52 kecederaan yang membabitkan rotan dan dikokot semasa digari. Kegagalan untuk membuat demikian telah membawa kepada persepsi umum yang negatif terhadap kerajaan Persekutuan BN yang dianggap telah menurunkan nilai N Dharmendran sebagai seorang rakyat Malaysia.<\/p>\n

DAP menuntut agar pegawai-pegawai polis yang terlibat dalam kematian dalam tahanan ditangkap dan dikurung dalam lokap atas tuduhan membunuh. Rakyat Malaysia telah mengharapkan bahawa kematian dalam tahanan tidak akan berlaku lagi selepas kematian di bawah tanggungjawab pihak berkuasa seperti Teoh Beng Hock, K Kugan dan pegawai kastam Ahmad Sarbaini Mohamed.<\/p>\n

Malangnya, kerajaan Persekutuan BN tidak sanggup untuk mengambil tindakan keras serta langkah-langkah pencegahan. Penubuhan Suruhanjaya Aduan dan Tingkah Laku Polis (IPCMC) akan memberi kepastian kepada rakyat Malaysia bahawa kerajaan Persekutuan BN komited untuk mengelakkan kematian dalam tahanan.<\/p>\n
