Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 30.5.2013.<\/p>\n

DAP lauds the historic appointment of Subang Jaya ADUN Hannah Yeoh as the first women Speaker in Malaysian history. DAP congratulates her appointment as Selangor State Assembly Speaker together with 3 other DAP EXCOs Sdr. Teng Chang Khim, Sdr. Ean Yong Hian Wah and Sdr. V. Ganapathi Rao.<\/p>\n

DAP has created history by making path breaking appointments that breaks glass ceilings for both women and Indians. DAP elected the first Indian Speaker in Malaysian history in Sdr. V. Sivakumar as Perak State Assembly and the first Deputy Chief Minister in Malaysia in Prof. Dr. P. Ramasamy as Penang Deputy Chief Minister.<\/p>\n

Hannah\u2019s appointment as Selangor State Speaker is a joyous occasion for women empowerment and gender equality in Malaysia. Her historic achievement for DAP has also made up for the disappointment felt by DAP in the EXCO line-up announced by Menteri Besar Selangor Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim today despite winning more seats in the last general elections. Despite the disappointment, DAP shall move on and hopes that Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim will adhere to his commitment to DAP to give us greater representation in future.<\/p>\n

\nDAP memuji pelantikan bersejarah ADUN Subang Jaya Hannah Yeoh sebagai Speaker wanita pertama dalam sejarah Malaysia. DAP mengucapkan tahniah atas pelantikan beliau sebagai Speaker Dewan Negeri Selangor bersama-sama tiga lagi Exco daripada DAP, Sdr. Teng Chang Khim, Sdr. Ean Yong Hian Wah dan Sdr. V. Ganapathi Rao.<\/p>\n

DAP telah menempa sejarah dengan mencipta pelantikan yang membuka jalan baru yang memecahkan \u2018siling kaca\u2019 untuk kaum wanita dan masyarakat India. DAP telah melantik Speaker India pertama dalam Sejarah Malaysia iaitu Sdr. V. Sivakumar bagi Dewan Undangan Negeri Perak, serta Timbalan Ketua Menteri India pertama di Malaysia melalui lantikan Prof. Dr. P. Ramasamy sebagai Timbalan Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang.<\/p>\n

Pelantikan Hannah sebagai Speaker Dewan Negeri Selangor adalah khabar gembira buat pergerakan memberdayakan wanita dan kesaksamaan gender di Malaysia. Pencapaian bersejarah beliau bagi pihak DAP berjaya mengubat kekecewaan yang dirasakan oleh DAP dalam pengumuman barisan Exco oleh Menteri Besar Selangor Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim hari ini, meski pun memenangi lebih banyak kerusi dalam pilihan raya umum yang lalu. Walaupun kecewa, DAP akan terus bergerak maju dan berharap supaya Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim akan menepati komitmen beliau kepada DAP untuk memberikan lebih banyak ruang untuk memainkan peranan pada masa akan datang.<\/p>\n
