Desperate Tactics By BN To Racialise PR\u2019s Opposition To Price Increases Will Not Succeed In Deceiving And Distracting The People That Subsidy Cuts Only Affect 27 Million Ordinary Malaysians But Not Impact Big Companies Like IPPs And Felda.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Desperate tactics by BN to racialise PR\u2019s opposition to price increases will not succeed in deceiving and distracting the people that subsidy cuts only affect 27 million ordinary Malaysians but not impact the big companies like Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Felda. BN is so desperate to justify its subsidy cuts that Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Deputy Minister Datuk Tan Lian Hoe is accusing DAP of trying to spark a a racial issue over a cut in the sugar subsidy by involving the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda).<\/p>\n

This is a stupid argument by Tan as those affected by the price increase of sugar by 20 cents to RM2.30 per kg includes Malays. Or is Tan saying that price increases in sugar and petrol affect only non-Malays?<\/p>\n

Tan said in Kuching 2 days ago that DAP had accused Felda of profiting from the subsidy cut in sugar. This is untrue. Tan is deliberately distorting my expose of the profits earned by Felda in the sugar business that was revealed during the listing of its subsidiary, MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd.<\/p>\n

MSM produces close to 60 % of the refined sugar production in Malaysia and is valued at RM2.46bil or RM3.50 a share at by CIMB Investment Bank Bhd. For 2010, MSM made a profit of RM 232 million before the sugar price was increased by 20 cents to RM2.30 per kg. <\/p>\n

This profit of RM232 million should be sufficient to cover any savings in sugar subsidies\u2019 cuts by the government following the increase in sugar prices. Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohd Zain Mohd Dom had announced that the sugar price increase was to reduce government sugar subsidy by RM116.6 million from RM400 million per year.<\/p>\n

What is RM 116.6 million savings from subsidy cuts in sugar by 20 cents compared to RM 232 million in profits earned by MSM last year? The BN government can easily transfer this M116.6 million cost, which is only half of the RM232 million annual profits, to MSM since it is owned by Felda. <\/p>\n

Instead, in line with BN\u2019s misguided and corporate-centric policy of helping the rich companies at the expense of poor ordinary Malaysians, BN has chosen to hit the pockets of 27 million Malaysians first than the already huge profits of corporate giants such as Felda or MSM. MSM should be asked to contribute by transferring half of their profits to the government and allow the sugar price to be maintained at RM2.10 per kg.<\/p>\n

How can DAP be playing racial politics for asking the Federal government to get Felda to use half its profits to \u201csubsidise\u201d the government as a form of social corporate responsibility that will also help Malays? This is typical of BN\u2019s racial politics that tries to pit Malays and non-Malays in a classic case of divide and rule. <\/p>\n

All ordinary Malays and non-Malays are equally affected by the price increases. And all rich Malays and non-Malays equally benefit from not having to suffer any subsidy cuts as that suffered by ordinary Malaysians, especially those benefits enjoyed by the Independent Power Producers.<\/p>\n

Clearly BN and Tan have run out of ideas by not been able to explain why no action has been taken to reduce gas subsidies of RM 19 billion annually to Independent Power Producers(IPPs), when it can take action to reduce diesel and gas subsidies of a few hundred million ringgit that hurts ordinary Malaysians. <\/p>\n

A more just and fair socio-economic policy should be to cut the subsidies of the rich first instead of the poor. The failure by BN to do so clearly shows that BN is about Barang Naik instead of PR (Price Reductions)<\/p>\n

BN begitu terdesak dengan isu pemotongan subsidi ini apabila Timbalan Menteri Dalam Negeri, Koperasi dan Kepenggunaan Datuk Tan Lian Hoe menuduh DAP cuba mencetuskan isu perkauman dalam pemotongan subsidi gula yang melibatkan Lembaga Kemajuan Tanah Persekutuan (Felda).<\/p>\n

Ini adalah tuduhan bodoh dari Tan kerana kenaikan harga gula sebanyak 20sen kepada RM2.30 sekilogram turut memberi kesan kepada Melayu. Atau Tan sendiri ingin menyatakan bahawa kenaikan harga gula dan petrol hanya akan mempengaruhi orang bukan Melayu?<\/p>\n

Tan berkata demikian di Kuching pada dua hari lepas bahawa DAP menuduh Felda mengaut keuntungan daripada pemotongan subsidi gula. Ini adalah tidak benar. Tan sengaja memutar belitkan pendedahan saya yang mengatakan bahawa keuntungan yang diperolehi Felda dari perniagaan gula telah didedahkan oleh anak syarikatnya, MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd.<\/p>\n

MSM menghasilkan hampir 60 peratus dari pengeluaran gula halus di Malaysia yang bernilai RM2.46bilion atau RM3.50 untuk setiap saham oleh CIMB Investment Bank Bhd. Untuk tahun 2010, MSM menikmati keuntungan sebanyak RM 232 bilion sebelum harga gula meningkat sebanyak 20sen menjadikannya RM 2.30 sekilogram.<\/p>\n

Setiausaha Kementerian Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna, Datuk Mohd Zain Mohd Dom telah mengumumkan bahawa kenaikan harga gula adalah untuk mengurangkan subsidi gula sebanyak RM116.6 juta daripada RM400 juta setahun.<\/p>\n

Apalah sangat RM116.6 juta penjimatan daripada pemotogan subsidi gula sebanyak 20 sen berbanding RM232 juta keuntungan yang diperolehi MSM tahun lalu? Kerajaan BN boleh memindahkan kos sebanyak RM11.6 juta dengan mudah; iaitu hanya sebahagian daripada RM232 juta keuntungan tahunan kepada MSM memandangkan ianya dimiliki oleh Felda <\/p>\n

Sebaliknya, dengan dasar BN yang terpesong dan polisi berpusat korporat yang hanya membantu syarikat-syarikat besar, sanggup mengorbankan rakyat biasa yang miskin, BN telah memilih untuk memberi tamparan kepada 27 juta poket rakyat Malaysia daripada mengenakan syarikat raksasa yang berkeuntungan besar seperti Felda atau MSM. MSM seharusnya diminta untuk menyumbangkan dengan memindahkan sebahagian daripada keuntungan kepada kerajaan bagi membolehkan harga gula kekal kepada RM2.10 sekilogram.<\/p>\n

Bagaimana DAP boleh bermain dengan politik perkauman sekiranya DAP sendiri meminta Kerajaan Persekutuan supaya mengambil sebahagian daripada keuntungan yang dikecapi Felda untuk membiayai kos dalam bentuk tanggungjawab sosial yang juga dapat membantu Melayu? Ini adalah politik perkauman BN yang cuba memecahbelahkan Melayu dan bukan Melayu dalam kes klasik untuk \u201cpecah dan perintah\u201d(divide and rule).<\/p>\n

Semua Melayu dan bukan Melayu sama- sama akan menerima kesan dengan kenaikan harga barangan. Dan semua orang kaya termasuk Melayu dan bukan Melayu sama- sama akan menerima manfaat dan tidak dibebani dengan pemotongan subsidi seperti rakyat biasa yang menderita terutama manfaatnya dinikmati oleh penjana tenaga bebas (IPP).<\/p>\n

Jelas BN dan Tan sudah ketandusan idea kerana tidak dapat menerangkan mengapa masih tiada tindakan diambil untuk mengurangkan subsidi sebanyak RM19 bilion setahun kepada IPP sedangkan tindakan pengurangan subsidi gas dan diesel beratus- ratus juta ringgit telah membebankan rakyat Malaysia.<\/p>\n

Sebuah dasar sosial- ekonomi yang lebih adil harus dilaksanakan supaya subsidi terhadap golongan kaya dapat dipotong bukannya golongan miskin. Kegagalan BN melakukan perkara tersebut memberi gambaran jelas bahawa BN adalah berkaitan \u201cBarang Naik\u201d manakala PR adalah \u201cPrice Reduction\u201d.<\/p>\n
