Press Statement By DAP Secretary-General And MP For Bagan Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On18.11.2015

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar should commit full resources to track down the whereabouts of 1MDB kingpin and Malaysian millionaire Low Taek Jho or Jho Low due to wide implications on the Malaysian economy impacted by the RM42 billion scandal. As long as this humongous scandal is not resolved and those responsible not punished, the value of the Malaysian ringgit will continue to languish at around RM4.40 to US1$, a 25% decline from the real value of the ringgit of RM3.60-3.70.

There is no point wasting time and money on a mentally unstable character like Alvin Tan, a disgraceful habitual offender that insults religion and public decency. Even though Alvin Tan is not in Malaysia but in the United States, there are hate laws there that can act against Alvin’s desecration of Islamic holy book the Quran. The Malaysian government should direct our Malaysian Embassy officials in Washington to lodge a police complaint for action to be taken under US laws against Alvin Tan.

DAP is shocked at a written reply by the Home Ministry to a parliamentaryt question from Wong Chen (PKR-Kelana Jaya), that there was no investigation conducted by the police against the millionaire and also no request from any parties to seek Interpol’s assistance to locate him. Interpol Malaysia were also not able to trace the whereabouts of four other individuals, namely former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) executive directors Casey Tang Keng Chee and Jasmine Loo Ai Swan, SRC International Sdn Bhd managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil and Goldman Sachs Malaysia managing director Datuk Yusof Annuar Yaacob.

Nik Faisal and Low are wanted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to assist in investigations related to SRC International, while, Tang and Loo are wanted by Bank Negara Malaysia to facilitate investigations under the Exchange Control Act 1953 to assist in investigations related to 1MDB. The police should be more aggressive and diligent in trying to trace these key personalities at the centre of the 1MDB scandal, especially Jho Low.
Has the police contacted Jho Low’s family, especially his father who was awarded a Tan Sri after the 2013 general elections? The public can not understand how the police still can not trace and locate Jho Low, when he is a well-connected millionaire who is in open public view, and not hiding like a terrorist.
