Perutusan Lim Guan Eng Sempena Hari Merdeka

Selamat Hari Raya dan Hari Merdeka

Only When We Are Malaysian First Then Can We Build A Future For Our Young And Our Young For The Future.

2011 Merdeka Message By DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 30.8.2011.

We have achieved some economic progress since our beloved first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, thundered the glorious word Merdeka seven times in Stadium Merdeka in 1957. But as much progress as we have made, one cannot help but think of the lost opportunities and the many areas where we have regressed.

The time has come for Malaysians to examine our own shortcomings objectively, abandon failed policies to adopt new ones that allow us to build the future for our young as well as build our young for the future. Much as we can build the necessary physical and digital infrastructure to world-class standards, we must also equip our young with the tools and skill sets to face the challenges of globalization.

Barisan Nasional and its UMNO cohorts seem hell-bent on insulting all Malaysians (en/bm/cn)

Barisan Nasional and its UMNO cohorts seem hell-bent on insulting all Malaysians by continually making racist and disrespectful statements.

Today, all DAP assemblymen have been suspended from the Malacca State Assembly for standing their ground in demanding Malacca Chief Minister Ali Rustam retract his allegations that gambling is part of Chinese culture. The suspension of Khoo Poay Tiong (Ayer Keroh), Betty Chew (Kota Laksamana), Lim Jack Wong (Bachang) and Tey Kok Kiew (Bandar Hilir) follows the suspension of Goh Leong San (Kesidang) yesterday over the same reason.

Pemotongan subsidi barangan keperluan harian membebankan rakyat (BM/BC)

Kenyataan YAB Lim Guan Eng, Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang merangkap Ahli Parlimen Kawasan Bagan dan Setiausaha Agung DAP pada 29 Jun 2011 di Komtar, George Town, Pulau Pinang

Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang merangkap Ahli Parlimen Bagan Y.A.B.

What Is The Extraordinary Investment For A Global Center From An American Company Which Dr Koh Tsu Koon Claimed On 16 May 2011 That He Had A Role To Play In Bringing To Penang? (En/Bm/Cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister And DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town & Kuala Lumpur On 24 June 2011.

What Is The Extraordinary Investment For A Global Center From An American Company Which Dr Koh Tsu Koon Claimed On 16 May 2011 That He Had A Role To Play In Bringing To Penang?

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon should prove that he has the courage to own up to his own mistake of a false investment announcement by an American company instead of trying to cover up his failure with another lie. Dr Koh must fully account to Malaysians what is the extraordinary investment for a global center from an American company which he claimed on 16 May 2011 that he had a role to play in bringing to Penang.

Dr Koh claims that he had never announced that Motorola was investing RM4 billion in Penang. However Koh is not being honest. Reports in all main newspapers, such as the Star and the Sun on 17 May 2011 had reported Koh as saying that the Prime Minister will announce an extraordinary investment to set up a global center by a United States firm during his visit to the US.

22/6/2011- Statement (En/BM/Cn) By Lim Guan Eng in Komtar, Penang : The Chua Family Should Not Lie That Penang PR Has A Deficit (En/Bm/Cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister And DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Komtar, George Town On 22 June 2011.

The Chua Family Should Not Lie That Penang Under Pakatan Rakyat Has A Deficit When PR Has An Unblemished Record Of Three Straight Years Of Surpluses Since 2008 By Relying On Corruption-Free And Good Governance Based On Competency, Accountability And Transparency (CAT).

The Chua family in MCA comprising MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and his Deputy Minister son Chua Tee Yong should not persist in lying that Penang under Pakatan Rakyat has suffered a deficit when PR has an unblemished record of 3 straight years of surpluses since 2008 by relying on corruption-free and good governance based on CAT. Chua Tee Yong had followed up on his father’s claims that Penang was now running a RM108 million deficit budget that affected Penang’s economic growth.

This is untrue as Penang PR has an unblemished record of 3 straight years of surpluses since we took over from BN in 2008 by relying on corruption-free and good governance based on CAT. This has been confirmed by the Auditor-General’s Report that Penang is the best financially managed state for two years running. Penang is the only state or Federal government in Malaysian history that has been praised by Transparency International for fighting corruption.

UMNO’s tacit support for Perkasa’s inflammatory and dangerous threats shows that 1Malaysia is nothing but lip service and an empty slogan (En/Bm/Cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister And DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 20 June 2011.

UMNO’s tacit support for Perkasa’s inflammatory and dangerous threats shows that 1Malaysia is nothing but lip service and an empty slogan.

Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali’s recent vile actions and malicious remarks at the launch of the Bersih 2.0 counter-protest at Kampung Baru are nothing short of seditious. Not only were pictures of Bersih chairperson Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan burned and stomped upon, flyers were distributed describing her as a ‘dangerous Hindu woman’.

Ibrahim Ali also then raised the threat of another May 13, by proclaiming himself a ‘war general’ and warning of severe repercussion for the Chinese community if they proceed with the Bersih march. He also suggested that the Chinese community may have to stock up on food should anything happen.

Soi Lek Should Explain Why He Supported And Campaigned For A Corrupt BN Sarawak & Taib Mahmud (En/Bm/Cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister And DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 18 June 2011.

Chua Soi Lek Should Explain Why He Supported And Campaigned For A Corrupt BN Sarawak And Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud During The Sarawak General Elections.

MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek should explain why he supported and campaigned for a corrupt BN Sarawak and its Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud during the Sarawak general elections. Chua was reported in Malaysian Insider that DAP may fail to repeat its Sarawak polls success in peninsular Malaysia as the Chinese vote swing there was based on dissatisfaction against cronyism and an allegedly corrupt state administration.

Instead of attacking corruption, Dr Chua has chosen to attack the Chinese voters for voting against BN by threatening to withdraw from government if MCA loses again in the next general elections. Clearly, Dr Chua’s was only forced to this tacit admission of the stench of corruption hanging over Tan Sri Abdul Taib after Switzerland President Micheline Calmy-Rey ordered a full investigation of money laundering against Abdul Taib to demonstrate the Swiss government’s commitment to fighting against corruption and the restitution of embezzled funds to respective countries.

Changing Penang in a Changing World (En/Cn)

Speech by The Honourable Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang At Foreign Correspondents Club, Hong Kong, June 17, 2011 : Changing Penang in a Changing World: Transforming Penang Into An International And Intelligent City.

Ladies and gentlemen thank you very much for inviting me here to speak. I come here as the Chief Minister of Penang, one of four states led by Pakatan Rakyat or the People’s Pact, the opposition coalition in Malaysia. I am from the Democratic Action Party, one of three coalition partners. I hope by the end of my remarks you will consider coming to visit and invest in Penang, as it continues to be an attractive location for business and pleasure alike.

It is wonderful to be in Hong Kong. We have so much in common; small states that have punched above our weight economically through the hard work and creativity of our people. Today, nearly a third of Malaysia’s exports come from Penang – more than half of the country’s electronics are produced there – and we are among the top tourist destinations in Malaysia with a record numbers of visitors. Like Hong Kong, we appreciate the importance of good food and open discussion. We both have worked hard to put ourselves on the map internationally, and done so successfully.

No Difference Whether MCA Is Inside Government Or Not When MCA Leaders Dare Not Object Inside Cabinet But Oppose Outside To The Press Against The Diesel Subsidy Cuts And The Abuses In The PSD Overseas Scholarships For Top Students (En/Bm/Cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister And DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 14 June 2011.

No Difference Whether MCA Is Inside Government Or Not When MCA Leaders Dare Not Object Inside Cabinet But Oppose Outside To The Press Against The Diesel Subsidy Cuts And The Abuses In The PSD Overseas Scholarships For Top Students.

DAP is not surprised at the expose by Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri that MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek did not object to diesel subsidy cuts during the National Economic Council(NEC) meeting when the matter was decided. Ismail even scolded Chua for being unfair to the BN government for siding with the C2-class fishing trawler operators protesting against the increase in diesel prices from RM1.25 to RM1.80 instead of defending the government.

Has Chua got the guts to deny and demand that Ismail Sabri withdraw and apologise for making these allegations?

Malaysians Have No Faith That A BN Cabinet Committee To Evaluate Gas Subsidies And TNB’s Power Purchase Agreement With The Independent power producers (IPPs) Will Side With The People When No Action Was Taken On The RM 52 Billion Bumi Shares Scandal (En/Bm/Cn)

Press Statement By Penang Chief Minister And DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng In Kuala Lumpur On 13 June 2011.

Malaysians Have No Faith That A BN Cabinet Committee To Evaluate Gas Subsidies And TNB’s Power Purchase Agreement With The Independent power producers (IPPs) Will Side With The People When No Action Was Taken On The RM 52 Billion Bumi Shares Scandal.

Malaysians have no faith that a special BN Cabinet committee formed to evaluate gas subsidies and TNB’s power purchase agreement with IPPs will side with the people when no action was previously taken on the RM52 billon bumi shares scandal. Only a Royal Commission of Inquiry or a bi-partisan committee comprising of both BN and PR elected representatives can instill public confidence that Malaysians will not lose out on renegotiating the IPPs as they have lost out when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad imposed these lopsided gas subsidies and unfair contracts in favour of IPPs.

The government had given out RM54 billion in bumi shares but only RM2 billion remained, the RM52 billion cashed out by the few UMNO and BN leaders for dishonest profit. If the RM52 billion of bumi shares were still retained, bumi corporate equity would now easily exceed 40%.
